Regardless Of Their Decision Today, The Maloofs Don't Care About The Fans Or The City

Excuse me for being negative but I don't buy any of their crap they said today. They didn't do this to give Sacramento one more chance. This had nothing to do with season ticket holders, or all the work the fans did. This had nothing to do with loyalty to the city of Sacramento. The only reason the Kings are here for one more year is because everything that could have gone wrong for the Maloofs, did. Every possible door closed for them and they were left with no choice but to stay one more year. Those guys tried to take my team and I will never respect them ever again.

The "You'll never get another team... ever" (not exact quote, but the gist) remark still leaves a really bitter taste in my mouth but they're stuck with us and we're stuck with them. So lets focus on the arena deal and if they really think that little of us then they'll sell to someone that wants to be here.

I don't know why you needed a new thread for that. But not long ago we had no chance, today we are in control of our own destiny.
I'm good with that

Same.. Once the Kings are locked in for another 25 years then we canworry about if the owners are doing their part.. Right now all my effort will be going into making the Kings succeed in Sacramento, and hoping we get that arena.

This is bigger than the Maloofs. If anything, these past 48 hours have shown that if Sacramento can deliver on the arena, they will get the Kings, with or without the Maloofs. We need to keep that in perspective - there's a bigger prize to be had than thumbing your nose at the Maloofs.

Much bigger prize. I can garuantee you that if the fans spend more time hating on the Maloofs than supporting the team and building the arena, the Kings will be gone next year. The Maloofs acted like idiots and deserve the ridicule that may come their way, but I think if you spend more time than you need to on hating 'em, you may find yourself in the idiot pile as well.

Who cares?

Do you need them to love you?

Do you need their approval?

NO!

You just need them to not move the team, and spend money on players. That's really about it.

Go find the love you need from your friends and family.

For CHRISSAKES PEOPLE!!!

It's NOT JUST YOUR TEAM!! THEY OWN IT!!

GROW THE EFF UP!!

You're going to take this PERSONALLY? Are you serious?

Trust me... as soon as the Maloofs figure out that they can make more money in Sac than they could in Anaheim, they'll stay (mostly that's due to the efforts of KJ, but yes of course the fan and political support helped-- it helped the businesses decide they wanted to sponsor) and start saying they love you again. And maybe ultimately that's a fault. They express emotion and tell the fans they love them and then the fans become depended on that kind of "love".

Money and love... how strangely they intertwine...

People, sports is a business. They're didn't decide to try to move because they didn't like you, and they're not going to stay because they realized they did. Seriously people. Grow up.

I actually do believe that they cared about the fans and that moving, while it was an easy decision for them financially, probably wasn't an easy decision emotionally. I don't think they're heartless, I just think they're kind of shady and they tried to make Sacramento a scapegoat for all their problems.

That's nice, but it doesn't help the cause. And everthing at this point is about helping the cause.

Anything any of us does to chase away even one fan, or turn even one email the city council receive from a please do it to a "**** 'em" is us not only not helping, but hurting the cause. And the cause is all that's important now. You are trying to save your team. The Maloof's presence or lack thereof is irrelevant to that goal now. They don't matter. You do.

Ok. But even in light of the gag order that was apparently issued by Samueli as a condition of their negotiations?

Why do you think Samueli issued the gag order and not the NBA?

Could have been the NBA, but it seems to be more Samueli's style... and the NBA doesn't really come into play if there are early negotiations between a new location and existing owners.

Until I see proof of a Samueli gag order, i'm skeptical.

Fine. Be skeptical. But Joe just said today he had a gag order and it may have even been a verbal one from Samueli. Are you going to call Joe up, take him out to lunch, look him in the eye, wait for his response, and then judge for yourself if he is telling the truth about being silenced by someone while in the middle of highly sensitive negotiations involving assets of hundreds of millions of dollars?

Well if that's what it takes to prevent you from coming to conclusions, then that's what it takes.

As a side note, I'm growing less tolerant of hypocrisy.

Samueli couldnt give them a gag order. That would be from Stern.

Yeah and further more why would you be negotiating with a guy who tells you you can't talk to anybody or any of your fans and wants to control you? Even if it was Samueli that would just make their relo attempt even stupider. But it was def from stern IMO.

Could have been from either.

It all depends on how desparate you feel about moving. The Maloofs felt desparate. Then Samueli respectfully asks that you do not discuss at all the details of the deal, and if you want what he's offering or want to do business with him, you respect those wishes. Or, he goes ahead and has you causually sign a little thing called a non-disclosure agreement that he downloaded off the internet. It's not rocket science people and you don't need a law degree to understand this.

Kinda hard to keep details out when they are a public document.

The entire lease agreement.

There was a lot more to this deal than the lease agreement.

And still, even that the lease agreement was public information... there could still be a hush requested or required by Samueli.

Wow you are intensely hell bent on conclusions that support a very narrow point of view.

All I'm trying to do is say that there are a whole lot of things that we don't know. And that you may not want to decide the Maloofs are the devil and born to steal your team because they hate you without full knowledge... and this recent sheepish admission by Joe of some vague "gag order" is pretty much the strongest indication that your going to get that the reason they clammed up (totally unlike their nature and history) might have been something the regrettably agreed to, because they were desperate, because the arena deal had been a ten year failure, becuase they made mistakes.... blah blah blah.

I didn't hear him mention it? Was it on Grant's show? It could be true, but it'd also make a really convenient excuse for leaving Sacramento in the dark for 7 weeks. What hypocrisy are you referring to?

Ok fine if you're going to go that far and literally interpret EVERY new piece of evidence that the Maloofs are rookie hating scumbags, that's your perogative.

The hypocrisy is that you judge almost eveything they do in a negative light, but when someone questions your motives as being overly negative... you blow up saying you have a right to express your feelings on this board blah blah blah. Do not the Maloofs have a right to NOT express their feelings to YOU when they are engaged in extremely sensitive negotiations that effect large portions of their entire families' net worth?

You got to give a little. At least give them a little space to not be perfect according to Rookie's Rules, ok?

Really not much to add. At this point the Maloofs are all but irrelevant. They just didn't lose friends in Sacramento, the got on the "watch close" list with the NBA. Forget what they said today and what was said before. It just doesn't matter. Read into the NBA's actions beyond the carefully chosen words. They not so quietly challanged David Stern and you just don't come out of that untouched. You won't see them publicly spanked or have their team yanked from them suddenly. That is unless they had sued the league. But what else are you supposed to make of having 9 of the NBA's best men coming here to "help" them with marketing, ticket sales, PR, arena negotiations, etc? And I even heard Stern mention helping them hire new personel.

About the only part of basketball organization that was left untouched was the team operations. Today Joe Maloof said on the radio that he and Gavin would be focusing on the team and George was going to represent them on the arena. So my read between the lines is that the Maloofs are on a very short leash and the NBA presence is VERY invasive into their day to day running of the business. You don't do that with 13 year term owners unless you just don't trust them and want to keep a close eye on them.

The control of the future is pretty much in the hands of KJ and his ability to coodinate a plan for the arena. No shenanigans will be forthcoming from the team end. That said, the NBA can drive a pretty hard bargain to protect the team and league interest in a new arena deal. They might be publicly appear to be there to help the Maloofs, but really they are there to make sure that the franchise is protected for possible sale. I would call this action of sending in 9 guys unprecedented in my memory.

No need to get ridiculous. I've stated many times now. I don't hate the maloofs, don't think they're Satan's spawn, etc. I just think they've handled this whole thing very poorly and not entirely honestly over the last year. As far as me "blowing up", not really. I welcome anyone to question my motives. But there's a difference in questioning someone's motives and just bitching about them. Ask me a legitimate question in a reasonable manner, and I'll give the best answer I can. But approach me with "I'm tired of your negative crap why don't you shut up", or something like that, and I'm gonna tell you where you shove it. Basically, I try and treat folks as i feel they're treating me.

This. I don't really give a flying rat's a** if the Maloofs are long-term owners or not. I care about keeping the team here in Sacramento. The Maloofs are the current owners, so that is who we deal with now. The future will take care of itself if we get an arena built. The NBA is mobilized to help. MSE has pledged full cooperation. So why don't we all shut our pie-holes about a commercial 6 years ago or if you believe everything he said in an interview today on the radio or whatever trivial topic got your panties in a wad this week.

We have less than 10 months for KJ and local civic leaders to figure out a roadmap for a new arena. THAT IS THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS RIGHT NOW. So stop bitching and start supporting everyone involved so we can get that done.

Oh Rookie... I would never request that you shut up. And for the most part, those were legitimate questions, albeit enhanced by hyperbole. To which you are no stranger I see.

Not you specifically, I was just talking in general. Anyway, I'm not entirely negative. I've said I believe they do actually care about their fans. I also think they did a very poor job of showing it, though. It seems like some people are just intent to justify or excuse everything the Maloofs have done. From my perspective, that's just as annoying as my criticizing them is to others.

Good post. I agree with everything you say here and this has been what I've felt during this whole ordeal. Ultimately, the Kings are the Maloofs property and as I've mentioned in a few other posts its only business. I have faith that the Maloofs will work with the arena people so that the ultimate goal of landing the arena comes true.

Amen, Warhawk. The owners don't enter into my feelings about anything right now. We need to declare a truce and get everybody on board with the real goal of getting an arena so we can keep the Kings here.

Toward that end we need to have the Maloofs in a cooperative mood (with Stern's eagle eye on them). Spewing venom, caliing the Maloofs names or otherwise constantly insulting them is counter-productive to to our goal. Its also a complete waste of time and energy that is not going to accomplish anything, except to solidify the anger against the Maloofs and feed the anti-arena folks. I'm not going to supply aid and comfort to the enemy. Make no mistake, we are not fighting the Maloofs, we are fighting the folks who are just against an entertainment and sports complex, public tax or not.
