Rebounding

One thing that has been impressing me lately with the Kings is their consistency in out rebounding their opponents. Over the last 10 years, that has been a major weakness for this team but they have out rebounded their opponents 6 out of the last 7 games:

Los Angeles Lakers
37-36 Kings
Portland
43-37 Kings
Phoenix
46-43 Suns
Toronto
50-36 Kings
Golden State
48-43 Kings
San Antonio
39-38 Kings
Memphis

I think this has more to do with the coach than our personnel this year, and I wanted to recognize Reggie on doing a great job at emphasizing rebounding in his new defensive scheme this year. Who would have thought that Brad Miller, Mikki Moore, a Spencer Hawes would be such rebounding machines?

The whole team seems like they are a little more active on the boards this year around. While our big men box out the big men the guards are coming back and grabbing the boards. It's great to see Hawes hitting the boards like he has. Although I knew the guy was gonna be a great NBA player for years to come I really thought he'd struggle on the boards because of his underdeveloped body. Obviously good coaching in high school and college did him well because he seems to have no problems having a noes for the ball.

So let's recap what he can do. Score, rebound, pass, block shots, shoot...seems like we made a great pick after all.

So now before I change the subject on the thread...great job on the boards Kings. Now lets just show some hustle on D.

Notice we are .500 since the new year too... Not bad....

Also noticed we are only a game and a half or two games outside of #10 in the lottery :D

The numbers are up a little from last year, mostly with Brad deciding to rebound again. But we are still only 20th in the league and get outrebounded most nights -- just that at this point we as fans have such low expectations that woohoo! ;)

And the recent streak has a lot to do with this:

Lakers 11th
Portland 23rd
Phoenix 27th
Toronto 22nd
Golden St 29th
San Antonio 14th
Memphis 26th

So no really good rebounding teams, with the best (Lakers) missing the big center who makes them a good one, and then a whole bunch of really bad rebounding smallball type teams.

Given the personnel Reggie has to work with, I'm impressed the team can out rebound most of those teams...For a rebuilding franchise, it is encouraging to see the improvement in this area.

I think that the Kings could really have better rebounding at the guard positions. Beno is doing much better rebounding than Bibby. However, Martin could definitely get more boards, rebounds should be an indicator of team performance, not what the centers are doing. There are guards out there who can get more rebounds than the Kings guards, namely Jason Kidd (at 6 foot 4, which is shorter than Martin) who after 13 seasons is still getting 7.7 boards per game.

And as Bricklayer says, 20th in the league is nothing to be proud of.
Hopefully the Kings can keep rebounding the ball and have a respectable ranking in future years

haha, that's true. But let's remember: Given the Kings teams of the past 4-5 years, we still would've been out-rebounded by 10 or 15 by those smallball teams.

lol.

This is a nice positive thread for a change. ;)
