Reality TV: Rebuilding the Kings

Here is the thing: reality TV, well, a) is trash :p; but b) thrives on controversy and squabbling (which is why its trash). No conflict = no "vicarious fun". Now do you, I, or ANYONE associated with the Kings want to a) either expose drama/squabbles within the team, or b) invent/exaggerate squabbles/drama amongst the team for the sake of TV ratings?

Here is the only way I see it working.

Kevin sprains his ankle. They show the play. Cut to some team officals or whatnot watching a replay on TV somewhere. Team officals look glum. Say "that looks like 2-3 weeks" or whatever. Cut to training room. Kevin with trainer. Trainer testing ankle. Camera zooms in on Kevin's face as he winces. New shot, obviously later, trainer comes back in room and tells Kevin the bad news. Camera flashes to Kevin's face looking glum. Camera follows Kevin out to car as he gimps along. Cut to meeting of coaching staff for next game. Talking about how to play wihtout Kevin. Cut to next morning, camera shows Kevin's car arriving. Kevin gets out. Kevin talks to camera as he gimps into training faciltiy to work out. Camera watches him work out. Voiceover about the game that night against the Spurs (or whoever). Show cuts of action. Cuts to glum looking coaches and glum looking Geoff in the hall as things go badly. Cut to Kevin watching game on sideline looking glum. Cut to commercial. After the commercial move to next piece of "drama". Etc. etc.

And if that sounds to you as if everyone not a bored Vegas playboy is going to want to just take that damn camera and smash it within a week, you have it about right.

You forgot the part where Kevin, after his ankle is "injured", is subsequently seen at a neighborhood park playing soccer....

I haven't heard anything new about it. This thread is from November - you know back BEFORE we were firmly entrenched in the cellar?

If you read my last post above, you'll see it was merely a concept then.

According to the CBS13 report from Nov 08, it was a "done deal" in terms of making this show. Just working out which station they will sign with to air this.

While the show may not will an emmy, I think its good in terms of putting the team in more of a mainstream light and make it more marketable to fans around the country and especially, to free agents. We, real Kings fans that remain loyal when the team is down, may not care too much about having a show to like a team. But to many people things like this is a plus. Kind of like advertising a product or seeing the product being used on TV.

Well, I haven't really invested the time to see if it's the case, but this would certainly explain the vastly greater level of media access to the draft workouts/interviews etc this year as opposed to any other.

From what I was told, it was purely conceptual. Ch. 13 may have reported it was a done deal but that was back in November, 2008 - an entire season ago.

Do you have current information????????"

Rebuilding the Kingdom TV show - whatever happened?

You guys recall the Maloofs saying they were going to do a reality TV show about the Kings? Whatever happened to that?

Completely forgot about that - I think fans were looking forward to this show as well.

Perhaps the "pilot" didn't get picked up, or ever got off the ground considering the Maloof's current cash flow problem.

Still would like to see it, though - plus based on the title it's guaranteed to have enough content for a few seasons (ouch!).

In the midst of the worst season in franchise history that might have made for good trainwreck TV, but not exactly a great time to be highlighting the franchise. Good thing -- that was a scary opportunity for our media loving owners to really embarrass themselves, and us.

Would not be surprised to see them try to bring the idea back when things look better however.

Considering they pulled the plug on "House Party Live" because of budgetary constraints, I cannot imagine them sinking money into this project at this point in time. Maybe after they see how the team is going to meld together, but there are simply too many unknowns right now...and they're still operating in the red because of the economy. This kind of show isn't a guaranteed money-maker by any means.

At the Vegas Summer League I recall Kayte saying that she was involved in a new Kings Web site project that was going to have more and newer info, interviews and some live items. Didn't go into it much but suspect this is the "middle of the road" for the moment until the new Kings show their stuff and win some games.

More Kayte is exactly what I need...
