Ray Allen?

Just wondering if there is any way we can get Ray Allen?
I know he has a ridiculous contract, but he is still an elite player in the league IMO.

To Sac:
RAy Allen

To Seattle:
Garcia
Thomas
Bonzi (S&T)
1st?

He is indeed an elite player. I'd definitely be okay getting him, Ron and Ray compliment eachother very well.

Bibby/Douby-Price/Hart
Ray Allen/Martin
Ron Artest/Wilkins-Jumaine Jones
Defensive big/SAR (or the other way around, I'd prefer this way)
Brad/defensive big

Get a back-up for Ron (Wilkins? Ju. Jones?) couple defensive bigs around SAR and Brad. Thats good. :)

Reason I say Wilkins is they won't need him anymore with Gelabele/Garcia/Rashard/Bonzi all there.

I would love Allen, but our SG position is filled for years to come. Plus we would have to give up either Bibby, or Artest to get him.

Martin has little chance of becoming an Allen type player, but I like how Martin's type of play fits in REAL well with what we are trying to do here.

We'd give up Bibby, not Artest. And get back Watson with Allen then. Replace Garcia with Bibby and take out the 1st or KT.

doubt it's realistic, but I'd love to get Ray.

Not sure we'd choose one of them over Ray Allen if we had a choice or it was on the table. If anything, we'd get one of them with Ray.

Obviously would be wonderful, but it is a fantasy. No need for the Sonics to trade him(at least at this juncture). If they do indeed move the team, the owners may be looking to cut out a high payroll guy like Allen and build the team around lewis. Would it be smart? Probably not, but dumber things have happened. I really, truly believe our expiring contracts CAN and WILL come into play at some point. I'm almost at the opinion of re-signing Bonzi is good, just because it adds, yet another trading chip for Petrie(whether it be Bonzi or K-mart or Garcia). It increases our flexibility to do a deal.

Expiring contracts could and may still come into play, but IMHO the majority of the time they are overrated. There is the occasional "whopper" deal exchanging a disgruntled star or such for expiring, but the great majority of the time expiring contracts simply expire.

Ray Allen is the first guy I can remember who had a career year in a contract year and then backed it up with an even better year the first year into his huge new deal.

I'd absolutely give up Bibby and Martin to get back Ray Allen and Earl Watson.

how old is ray again? is this dude gonna bring us a ring? i'd rather not give up young talent for some guy that is going to come in for 2-3 good years. if we don't win a championship within that time frame its pointless. bibby is like 27? 28? martin is like 22-24? they still have alot of years left in them and play effectively... i don't think ray is a player for our team that will put us over the top. i'd definitely do a bibby/kt/expiring contract for ray/watson + one of their young centers. rob swift, johan petro, sene... i'm sure they'd laugh at that deal tho :)

Ray is 31. Even if he loses most of his inside game (slashing and rebounding) later on at 34 or 35 (which he's still damn good at, always has been), his versatile shooting and ball-handling is still quite valuable.

We would have to give up a lot to get Ray Allen and he is starting to get past his prime. No chance we get him and I am not sure why we would in the first place.

But if you look at someone like Reggie Miller, he was still very effective, averaging 14.8 ppg when he was 39 years old. Guys who can shoot have a longer shelf life than slashers. Ray Allen might not get better as he gets older, but it's not like he only has one or two years left.

Never said Ray Allen has 1 or 2 years left. It is just that the guy is getting older and he won't be getting any better or younger. The dude can still play great basketball and will continue to play for years to come.

KMart said 2-3 years. And I agree Ray has more than that in him. If not, so what, with Ray that may be enough to get a title. If we did not have to give up Bibby. Even if ......maybe. I see no realism here, but Ray would be alot of fun to see in a King's uniform.

no doubt about ray's ability to play. his age just scares me. players don't get a whole lot better after 30... btw didn't he have knee surgery b4?

Allen/Artest is a tremendous offensive punch. I'd be willing to give up Martin to do the trick--because Garcia's game may better be suited as a 2/3 backup than Martin's, and a Allen/Artest/Garcia 2/3 rotation would be one of the best out there.

I could see Allen being shopped if the ownership/financial situation gets dicey up there. I don't know if it would take Bibby as well, but it's an interesting scenario to think about--however unlikely.
