it almost looked like the raiders receiver did not wrap up the ball with both hands because he wanted to use one hand to brace himself against the ground as he was falling down... weird. He had complete possesion it's just that as he went down he turned on his stomach and the nose of the ball hit the ground. He probably thought they would give him possesion because he didnot bobble

Yeah, I remember that very clearly. I was at work watching that game with no audio, so I didn't hear the refs explanation at the time, but it was clearly a bad call. I still don't understand how it got overturned. And in that case, we still lost the game (just barely), so that play hasn't stuck in most fans' minds like the Tuck Rule is stuck in Raider fans' minds.
 
I'm pretty sure it was overturned on the basis of the old "football move" standard. So the "going to the ground" cleared things up although its not without fault.

I don't get the tuck rule. Its a dumb rule. But it was the rule plain as day and they reviewed it that offseason and elected to make no changes to it. They didn't draft the rule on the spot just to screw Al Davis and the Raiders. Though it couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
 
Ouch the Pats offense was painful today. Brady doesn't seem to be 100% mentally there and if the line would hold up they could possibly get away with it. A year ago I'd totally shake this thing off but after going 11-5 and missing the playoffs those divisional losses are pretty painful to think about right now.
 
Yeah, I don't know what to say about that game. The Pats are one of the few teams that can win playing Big 12 football, spread the receivers out, throw the ball 50 times a game, and outscore your opponent. But that doesn't work unless the quarterback is completing 65-70% of his throws. Brady was less than 50% yesterday, and didn't throw a single touchdown (can't remember the last time that happened). That means that a lot of the short throws that substitute for the run game weren't getting them those 5-7 yards that they need to keep them out of 3rd and long, and that just feeds into that wild blitz that Rex Ryan loves, the same blitz that he used with the Ravens to almost beat the 16-0 Pats. That offense just isn't crisp.

Everyone is down on the defense, and it's deserved, but they only gave up 16 points yesterday. That's not a bad showing.
 
Their defense played fantastic, all things considered (new personel, shift in schemes, Mayo being out indefinitely). 3/11 on third down conversions, a goal line stand. The line play has dogged them since the Superbowl and is the most glaring weakness right now as it stifles the run and Brady needs the confidence boost.

Honestly if it weren't for the Superbowl ghosts and the 11-5 sitting at home in the playoffs ghost I'd be smiling that this is the kind of wake up call that will get their season in order. Or that it had to be the JETS. The Chargers and Steelers lost, so could be no biggie, but mix in a lousy Pac-10 weekend for the most part and it wasn't my best weekend.

At least Denver won.

I don't understand how the offensive line looked so good for so long, and ever since the Super Bowl, they can't handled a big time pass rush. I would think that a quarterback like Brady would kill the blitz, but ESPN ran a graphic last night that said his numbers go down dramatically (completion percentage, yards, more interceptions) when the defense rushes six or more; the Jets brought six something like 58% of the time or something like that. Maybe they need to get away from the spread offense and run their tight ends up the seam a little bit more. Chris Baker and Ben Watson can slow that blitz down if they are making the defense pay, and the closer they line up to the quarterback the easier it is to hit them hot. That oughta slow that rush down some.
 
I would prefer they return to a ball control type of offense. It was great to see Brady put up huge numbers for one season just to show he could do it but I don't think anyone can sustain it forever.

My least favorite week in football is complete. I have to admit my heart was with the Pats even though I try not to pick a favorite, but I was so happy for Josh in the end. Not a good day to be a Boston sports fan though.

Also with the bye week its hard for me to follow my Orton vs. Cutler bet, but I think I am in the lead in most of the 5 statistical categories we picked. Orton threw his first pick today and it was on a hail mary, that shouldn't even count as a real pick.
 
Oakland Raiders are just pathetic. Boomer Esiason was correct that the Raiders are just simply a bad team, among the worst in the NFL right now.

If it was any other coach except Jeff Fisher on that sideline, he would be fired right now. This is the only time I've watched a Titan's game, and those players just seem lost. I know they played vs the Pats, but this shouldn't happen. Ever. If Shanahan was fired in Denver, Fisher should be fired in Ten. I'm not sure why Collins is still starting - you owe Young 14 million if he's on the roster next season. I think his pride has gotten the best of him, and his actions are not the best thing for this football team right now. He's got to go.
 
I've been wondering how long Fisher can last myself. However I don't think he needs to switch to Young, they immediately looked even worse once he came in. Unless they want to run a gimmick offense they may as well cut him loose. They can't afford to pay him 14 million next year even if he rebounds.

This team was going nowhere with Collins, and will not go anywhere no matter who you put under center. Young should have been starting the last two weeks, if not to audition for next year then to build his trade value so you can get at least SOMETHING for him. At this point, the Vince Young draft pick will go down as one of the bigger busts considering how good this guy was his first season.
 
Big game for the Chargers tonight. If they lose, they're playoff chances will be severely crippled. Show us something tonight, LT!
 
Tonight's game will be interesting for sure. As much as I'd like to think Denver is for real I'm still not sold and while the Chargers have looked downright awful when they lose they still have the talent to get it done.

Should be a good game.

And please tell me no throwbacks tonight.
 
I said I hate bye weeks, but it couldn't have come at a better time for SD. Hopefully they get a few more bodies back for tonight. They really miss Jamal Williams out there
