But don’t worry, we solved the gambling problem by arresting Chauncey Billups and Damian Jones and banishing Malik Beasley to Bad Bunny’s basketball league!

What this ignores is players make more money from endorsements and being in a major media market increases your ability to gain lucrative endorsements. Nothing with salary can make up for that.
Now the NBA Commissioner is bowing to online gambling companies? The Adam Silver tenure keeps getting worse and worse.

Guarding the integrity of the game has to be the Paramount goal of every sports organization. Decades of watching professional and college sports has made one thing clear: nothing will kill the game faster than degenerate gamblers.

The NBA has created a model where the top free agents only want to go to the same 5 teams and competitive teams that cost families hundreds of dollars to go see rest entire starting lineups some nights but they are most worried about teams with sub .300 records that no one cares about sitting players no one is paying to go see 2/3 of the way through a lost season. Give me a break.
Do you mean that literaly?
That a player (especially a new young player) would turn down $20 million because they did not know or like team or locale?
On his second or third contract, maybe, but not on the first.

Because 20 million in the grand scheme for especially a star young prospect is, as said, nothing. The reason is because there are so many other avenues to make up the difference and until the Kings can shake their reality as the place where potential goes to die then it would be a wise business decision. The young guys are playing now, but just watch, the first half of this season may have caused some sort of damage. The last time if you recall it involved draft picks not sending medical reports or accepting invites to visit. Hopefully getting the young guys out now will curb some of that damage with agents/players.
The whole argument is about superstars. Nobody is looking at a proposal that would eliminate the draft and make rookies free agents and worrying about whether Sacramento will have future opportunities to sign the next James Bouknight. The point is that Sacramento would have no chance to sign AJ Dybantsa, or Darryn Peterson, or Cam Boozer under that scheme. We're not worried about losing our shot at Davion Mitchell, we're worried about losing any chance at a shot at Victor Wembanyama.i've shown that only SUPERstars have "other avenues" and my point is, "no matter HOW much faith you have in yourself, when you come into the nba, you have no guarantee that you will ever make enough that 20 million dollars is, as said, "nothing"

well, if you are one of the VERY TOP prospects, maybe 20 mil doesn't matter.
but what if you are james bouknight (selected #11 in 2021)?

booknight is now in the g-league in mexico - i can't see him getting another nba contract. his total nba earnings (3 years) is about 14 million - could he have afforded to turn down 20 million?
i selected booknight because i recall that prior to selecting davion in 2021, a lot of people were high on booknight (we selected Davion at #9)
but zaire williams is still in the league (selected #10)
he has earned almost 20 million in his first four years and has next year left on his second contract, after which he will have earned about 32 million. he is a rotation player but not a starter, probably has zero chance of any endorsements.
could he have afforded to turn down 20 million (he is a bench player in freakin' brooklyn - no guarantee he gets another contract)
and then there is davion at #9
he's on his third team, but miami gave him a two year deal worth 23 mil. he had earned almost 20 mil in his first four years
no guarantee he succeeds. could HE have afforded to pass on 20 mil?
then we get to franz wagner (#8 in 2021)
he made about 23 mil in his first four years then got a max contract,
now HE is someone who COULD have turned down 20 mil - but how would he KNOW that when drafted?
earlier i provided info (from sportico), which shows clearly that "endorsements" are not the cash cow you think them to be.
yet you continue to say this:
"Because 20 million in the grand scheme for especially a star young prospect is, as said, nothing. The reason is because there are so many other avenues to make up the difference..."
