Race to the Bottom thread

So youre telling me an org makes a giant swing for an all star/dpoy... and their medical staff didn't look into this beforehand? Somehow discover it a week later?

This is the kind of crap Silver has to stop. Take away their pick, guarantee JJJ is back on the floor
Quite possibly one of the reasons they made the trade was they knew he needed this surgery.

You know Ainge had the team docs looking extra hard for something to sideline JJJ for the rest of the season with

The timing of this move, coming immediately after two consecutive Jazz wins in which Jaren Jackson was the leading scorer, is what makes it hilarious. I can imagine Danny Ainge screaming "take evasive action!" as he watches those lottery balls dribble away. With AJ Dybantsa sitting courtside, no less.

their pick is only top 8 protected this year or else the Thunder get it so I guess you could frame it as the Jazz just doing the league a service.

Good point! It actually wouldn't bother me to see Dybantsa end up in Utah anyway, if I'm being honest. Perhaps because that would make it easy to go on believing that the institution of the NBA is guilty of malfeasance? Righteous indignation is the warm blanket that wards off the chill of perceived iniquity.

He’s not worried about that he needs to decide which streamers are gonna infest all star weekend

The forced outrage is ridiculous. Meanwhile you know if Sabonis needed a minor surgery the same people would be like “Get healthy King, we need him at 100% health to be the best version of us next season!”

Except Domas has actually been injured. JJJ beat our ass and all of a sudden has to get shut down 12 hours later. Completely different context.

And if JJJ actually had a serious injury, why play in 2 games? How was this possibly missed when they traded for him? Did it appear in the last week?

And Domas kicked Memphis’ butt in his last game before his “injury” has benched him.

Who are we to say how injured or not people are? Dude’s having surgery. It’s almost assuredly not a fake surgery for a non-existent injury just to rank.

Ok but seriously why would he play in a meaningless (although meaningful for tank purposes) game against the worst team in the league last night if he needs surgery?

Like I get that there is some pearl clenching going on, and I am not 100% sure if we are clean this season - but let's be honest, aside from 2008-2009, has this team ever been this bad? No. Our biggest failure is our unwillingness to reset when needed and it appears we finally have full organizational buy in.

I get why Kings fans are a little stressed about all this tank talk when our playoff worthy team was essentially stripped apart by one bad move and a trade demand to the worst team in the league in record time. But also most national media is treating us like complete idiots who did this to themselves and more talking about the teams that have been in the complete dumps + Indy which is one of those "only happens to the Spurs to get them loaded" injury coincidence tanks.

So, the KINGS own a 3.5 game lead (4 in the loss column) for a top 3 lottery odds position with 26 to go. Will they hold it?

It’s kinda crazy to think that they have lost 14 consecutive and are on pace for the 2nd worst win percentage season in the Sacramento era yet could still be bounced from the bottom three rather quickly and easily.

I just don’t see us winning more than 4 or 5 games the rest of the way. Even with our “easy” schedule. We’re running out summer league lineups. I guess if Sabonis, Keegan, etc start playing again we might possibly win more but…we’re just plain bad. I will be SHOCKED if we’re not bottom 3 record wise by seasons end. And mildly surprised if we aren’t the worst record.

Domas is legitimately hurt and not helping us playing right now. Long term or short term. Not totally sure about Keegan but why even risk him?

I think there'd be some value in Keegan getting reps as a #1 option and just see what that looks like for 20 games. We've seen the spurts over the years and maybe just installing him in that role and saying "You will not leave this game without 18 FGA" gets him into that mind-set of being a scorer and not deferring.

All about gathering information heading into the off-season. We burnt 50+ games on NOT doing that, so we're a little behind the 8-ball, but at least we're finally here. Should have a reasonable sample to see some progression from now until the end of the season.

Domas should just be shut down, totally agree. Who cares anymore, play the tank game and get him fully right for next season.

Oh, I’m in agreement. If they are even having any nagging pain or injury, you play it extra safe.

I thought I heard on 1140 them talking about Domas working out before the Pels or Jazz game and that he had traveled with the team. I didn’t watch either game so I don’t know if that’s true and I just misheard.

It will be interesting to see how things move forward after the AS break. Not sure how long we will be able to continue to sit Monk, Westbrook or Lavine. Though, I’m not sure they completely deter our tanking, they are legitimate NBA players, which is more than can be said for Plowden, Stevens.

Peanuts now. But I imagine any future punishments become much harsher and eventually taking away draft capital is the final goal here to put an end to this.
Taking away draft picks is not in the cards under the current policy; but the fines do increase with repetition. The next ones will start to get expensive.

IV. Penalties for Violations of Policy

Any team that violates any of the foregoing provisions, or otherwise has a playerwho does not participate in a game in circumstances that are, in the opinion ofthe Commissioner, prejudicial or detrimental to the NBA, shall be subject to thefollowing penalty under Article 35A(d) of the NBA Constitution:9-13-2023
First Violation: The team will be fined $100,000
Second Violation: The team will be fined $250,000
Subsequent Violations: For each successive violation, the team will be fined$1 million more than its previous penalty (i.e., third offense results in a$1.25 million fine, etc.).
