Race to the Bottom thread

So the next time we win (and we will win again) maybe you all won't freak out about it. Even teams that are trying to tank really hard (like the Jazz tonight) get wins because guys like Ace Bailey and Isiah Collier are still good NBA players, and can still get their team a victory on some nights, even when the coach benches every vet in the 4th quarter.

But a great night for the tank- Pellies, Jazz, and Nets all win!!

Thing is the jazz are good and should be a play-in team

feels like the worst record consistently drops to 4 or 5 in these draft simulations and it makes me sick to the stomach
They said team who finished last, has for 3 years in a row fell to #5. Which has to be some 1 in a million+ type odds. So I'm confident if we finish last its really 5th, but if Pacers finished last, well the last place was due for #1 lol.

Don’t worry, we aren’t likely to finish first pre-lottery. We have the second easiest remaining schedule and teams like the Jazz and Wiz are shameless. I think we end up 3-5 before lottery night.
With the way the team is playing you think so? Of our remaining games we have Jazz, Pacers, Jazz, Nets, Nets, as the tanking teams. Everyone else isn't tanking. Maybe we steal 1-3 from the good teams and then split 2-3 from the tanking teams. I have us winning somewhere between 3-6 games, and 6 is probably extremely generous. 12-43 currently. 27 left. 6-21 would be current pace of the year, but now they are clearly trying to lose.

Pelicans aren't tanking and they have 6 games against the tanking group.
Jazz are 5 wins ahead of us and they play 4 games against us and the Wizards.

I know the Kings always let us down, but I'm pretty confident those 2 teams can't get below us.
Its a 4 way race between Kings, Wizards, Pacers, Nets. And we have the advantage. Just need to make sure that Sabonis/Keegan don't play another minute this season.

I just think the Wizards, Pacers and Nets are going to do everything they can to lose. We have the second easiest remaining schedule. We have lost 13 games in a row and have not gained separation. It’s not us, it’s them. If i had to guess it goes:

Pacers
Nets
Kings
Wizards
Jazz
Mavs
Pels

But we have gained considerable ground, even if we haven't gained separation. Remember that before we lost 13 straight we won 4 straight, and were actually two games or so above the worst record. So we had some work to do to get back in last. But since we beat the Wizards on Janaury 16, here are the records of our 5 biggest "rivals." We have definitely used the losing streak to gain ground, and have gained at least 3 games on every team.

Pels 6-7
Pacers 4-8
Wizards 4-8
Nets 4-10
Jazz 3-10
Kings 0-13

I would still be ok with that if worser came to worse. We just need to guarantee a top 6 pick. Darryn Peterson and AJ Dybantsa are definitely the prizes of this draft, but Cam Boozer, Caleb Wilson, Kingston Flemings, and Keaton Wagler all have all star/franchise player potential too.

I just think the tide is going to turn soon due the easy schedule. The next 13 games will be the most telling. If the Kings are 3-10 during that stretch, I could see them ending 1 or 2.

So far this year, we have managed to do pretty poorly against the 5 other worst teams. Currently, we are 2-4 against those teams (wins vs. Utah and Washington) and losses (@ Utah, @ Washington, @ NO, and @ Indiana). The win against Utah as in October, before we were fairly thinking about tanking. So while trying to tank, we are 1-4 against the other bad teams.

We have 7 games left against them - 2 vs. NO, 2 vs. Utah, 2 vs. Brooklyn, and 1 vs. Indy. I am least concerned about the Pellies. As last night indicated, they are way better than us, and have no real incentive to tank. They are going to play their guys and get them reps together, and we probably go 0-2 in those games without having to try too hard to lose. For the last 5, even if we win all the home games and lose the road games (which seems to be our pattern), that means we go 3-2 in those 5 games. Given that those teams all play each other too, finishing the "easy games" at 3-4 hardly seems like a catastrophe.

We play the Nets twice and the Pacers once. Our easy schedule cuts two ways because we play the teams trying to catch us.

Actually, it's 1 in 11 odds. But close! Good guess!

It's basically the odds of flipping a coin three times and landing heads three times in a row. Unusual, but not really notable.

Haha yeah I've been getting that a lot too. It seems like the worst team never gets #1. Personally I wouldn't mind a woss here and there as the season winds down.
The odds say the first few positions pre lottery will pick around 4th. To be expected.

Listening to 1140 and Peterson has missed like half his games and doesn’t seem like a team first player? Perfect for the Kings!

#1 overall pick seems scary this draft. Everyone is saying Peterson is the second coming, bona fide superstar prospect, Kobe 2.0 etc....

But the injury concerns are legit. Nobody wants to draft the next Oden, but flip side is potentially passing on a future 35ppg player.

Perry seems to have a knack for identifying young talent, so I'm happy with a top 5 pick this draft. I might even be happy with wheeling and dealing down if we do get top 3 but our guy identifies somebody just as good a few picks lower. Consensus seems to be that there's at least 6-7 potential cornerstones this draft.

Because there are a solid 4-5 players who can realistically go #1 at the end of the day, I have a legitimate fear that, if we end up in the top 5, our pick is gonna be the one to end up being a bust.

Considering you have a 52% chance of falling out not really a surprise. But at some point the odds need to reflect. You want to be 1 because your worst option is 5. Not because some not relevant historical frequency.
Actually, from the #1 slot it's 48% chance of falling out, 52% chance of top-4. But yes to the rest.

Vlade trauma haha

I like Perry's rookies (even Nique, who gets a weird amount of hate - as if older rookies don't also have to adjust to the NBA), so I'm going to be optimistic.
