question: stockton?

#1
My family MIGHT be moving to Stockton in a few years (maybe even sooner?). I would like to get your opinions about the place. Like what schools are good (high schools and colleges), what kind of place it is, Look and feel, House prices, you know, stuff like that.

I'm excited. I hope we do move so I'll be closer to the Kings!!! :D

Any info you could give will help! Thanks :)

Ummm...I hope you don't take offense to this...but Stockton is not a place I would live in. Pretty high crime rate, not saying that any place you live isn't, but Stockton wouldn't be where I would live. Maybe there are some members here that live there that can tell you different than me.

^^ no offense taken whatsoever. stuff like that would definitely help. thanks for your input. we might be moving to stockton because of my mom's job so i guess there's not much we can do about it. Are there places near stockton that you would recommend?

The Central Valley is one of the poorest areas in the country, worse than Appalachia. It also has very poor air quality, bad enough that you should be concerned about it if anyone in your family has respiratory problems or if you have young children.

Do your research before you move there. I 'd

Also, make sure the Kings are still in town if that's a key decision factor for you.

yup. will definitely do some research of course. just wanted to know what the people who live there or near there think. and yeah you're right. i would hope the kings would still be there if we move. if not, i'd rather stay here in NJ where I can watch the mets :)

I live in Stockton. If I had the chance I would move if I could. I live on the southside of stockton, I do not like it at all. Like Rockmeister said, Stockton has a high crime rate. A few months ago I was driving downtown and saw some bums fighting with eachother and one of them had a knife chasing the other guy. Crazy stuff, if you want to move to stockton I would recommend the northside of stockton. Maybe the Brookside area, it's clean over there. I've been living here for 15 years now, I wish I could move out of Stockton. Anything else just ask me.

Where in the south side do you live?

I use to live in the Northside, Whittier Ct. to be exact. And behind the house we were renting was Malvern Ct., were almost everyday you can hear and see 8 cops cars parked on that street. A house on the corner almost burned down because of a meth lab. There is a kid I know whose brother shot a another guy on the same street.
After almost 8 years in that house, we decide to buy a house on the southmost part, Weston Ranch is what the area is called. It's a little bit clean and quiet although there was a house in the area that got busted for marijuana plants.
Brookside area is a good part of the North, but houses there are expensive. You might also try the Spanos West or Spanos East areas. They have a big shopping complex on Interstate 5. Sadly though, there was lso a house raided in that area for MJ plants. Then there are the new developments on 8th mile road or all the way to Morada which is closer to Hwy 99.
Schools? The best grade schools for me are the schools under the Lincoln Unified School District on the north. Colleges? There is the University of the Pacific (Kandi's alma mater) and San Joaquin Delta College.
I've recently heard some people refer to Stockton as, "Baby Oakland". To why, I have no idea.

Stockton is great!

Don't let other threads scare you. I grew up in Stockton and visit my family and friends there often. Lincoln school disctrict is great. Myself and all my friends had a good time and went to great colleges after graduating from Lincoln High School. There is plenty of good food (i can give many recomendations), new sports teams (Ports, Thunder, etc.), and parks. Its a fairly large city, so other posters may have not been familier with all the nice places. Nice neighborhoods include Lincoln Village West, Parkwoods, around the Miricle Mile among others. The crime and pollution?! complaints have been exagerrations...

and, best of all.... TONS OF KINGS FANS!!! and close to Arco as well. about 45-60 mins from the games.

Check here for a crime comparison between Sacramento and Stockton.

Sacramento ain't exactly a safe place either but Stockton is worse, except for rape.

Like anywhere though, it all depends where you spend your time.
