Question for the old-timers

OKay, since i've been following the kings ('02 playoffs), there hasn't been a season without heinous, mind and team crippling injuries. I mean, seriously. Microfracture knee. Abdominal strain. Planar fasciitis. Protruding discs. Groin tear. Broken jaw. BILATERAL THUMB SPRAINS?!?!?! WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My question for the old-timers (pre '01 Kings) is, has this stuff occurred in the past? When the kings were bad, did they still suffer these ridiculously painful injuries? Or is this "kings curse" just a new feature of the new millennium?

Dammit, what if it's me who brought the curse???

Yes indeedy, it is you Jerryaki, and as punsihment we have dediced that you must die. :p

I remember all kinds of past injuries -- half seasons missed by Mitch Richmond, Wayman Tisdale, Walt Williams, career ending knee injuries to Lionel Simmons, Never-Healthy Pervis wandering through town, Bobby Hurley nearly dying in a car wreck, ricky Berry flat out committing suicide. Some serious crap. But I think the difference in recent years is that it actually cost us something -- might very well have cost us one or more NBA titles. And that just sucks. When you're bad and you have an injury, well, that's just all part of the big suck. But when you're a contender and suffer injuries, it can rob you of a once in a generation opportunity.

Comes with the territory, as they say.

Happens every year, to every NBA team and YES, to every fan.

Everybody, has just got to DEAL WITH IT and hope your team comes out of it, in not too bad-a shape, standings-wise.

holy crap. yeah, i'll take bilateral thumb sprains over freakin' suicide...yikes.

Bilateral thumb sprains are good, but hard to match Lionel Simmons back int he early 90's having to sti a game out because of "Nintendo thumb". :D

I'd just like to point out how utterly ridiculous it is that the Pistons haven't had a serious injury in the past two years. I HATE THEM.

there is a belief held by some that we continue to be plagued by injuries because it's rumored that Arco was built on top of an old indian burial ground.

personally, I just think we need players who drink more milk.

(milk it builds strong bones);)

Every team has injuries and most fans seem to think thier team gets it worse than most. (Never heard anyone brag about how lucky their team was) That being said the Kings injury problems really only became an aparnt problem arround 02 BEACEAUSE it mattered. If your crap player goes down and is replaced by a crap player on a team that ain't goin no where who the heck cares? Since the Webber days many sports reporters out side Sac have remarked how injury prone the Kings seem to be. It does however seem to me that the injury bug was allready here waiting.

Nintendoitis you mean.

whetever injury there is, A Sacramento King has had it.

I was at Game 3 or 4 of the 1996 Playoffs at Arco.. Sonics vs Kings (Rattle Seattle Sign and everything) and Mitch Richmond went down in that game.

Like every team they generally have one or two significant injuries a year. The main arguments for any curse would be Ricky Berry and Bobby Hurley, but I also follow the Celtics pretty regularly and they had two major talents drop dead on them so I've never believed in any of that stuff. Injuries are part of every sport and usually the teams that win it all have had incredible luck when it comes to staying healthy.

This year has been a real killer but sometimes a bad year pays off. David Robinson's season killing injury singlehandedly rebuilt the Spurs franchise for years to come.

Send cows to Arco immediately:)

We of course tend to focus on the Kings as they've had more than their fair share of injuries in the recent, and not so recent, past. Fact is, injuries are part of the game for every club.

For example, Utah... they've been cursed with injuries all season long and have yet (I think..) to see their starting five on the floor together this year.

Ya, as Brick outlined earlier, the Kings have suffered with injuries as long as we can remember in the Sacto era. Deal with it ;)

We lost to the Lakers in the WCF because they had the greatest 6th man - REFEREES! Even Nader was complaining!

No need...they're already here. ;)

(I've got a tape of a game from 1996..LA vs. Sac. that shows a shot outside of Arco that has cows grazing.) :)

Cows? How come SacTown got the cowbells, and they don't have the cows?
