Kings center's lawyer: No sexual assault

SACRAMENTO (AP) - Sacramento Kings reserve center Justin Williams and his girlfriend had consensual sex with the woman who is accusing him of sexual assault, his attorney said Saturday.
"In no way, shape or form did anything wrong happen," William Portanova said in a telephone interview. "Unequivocally, 100 percent, nothing wrong."Police announced Thursday they were investigating allegations that Williams had sexually assaulted a woman. They were notified by a hospital on the morning of Oct. 12 that a woman in her 20s had reported being sexually assaulted by Williams.
He was given an indefinite leave of absence from the team on Thursday after police announced the investigation. No charges had been filed against Williams or his girlfriend.
Williams and the woman were introduced by friends the night of Oct. 11 at a gathering at a local restaurant and nightclub, Portanova said. After the club closed, the party moved to another person's house and then to Williams' home, with the number of people dwindling as the night went on.
Eventually, Williams, his girlfriend and the woman were alone in a bedroom at Williams' home and had consensual sex, Portanova said.

Officers searched Williams' home Wednesday night and removed items that were being evaluated as potential evidence, said Sgt. Matt Young, a police department spokesman.
"The case will be declined because the evidence is simply not there," Portanova said. "The evidence is simply not there because the crime simply didn't happen."
The 23-year-old Williams is in his second season with the Kings and averaged five points in 26 games last season. He was signed as a free agent in 2006 out of Wyoming.
Portanova also represented another King, Ron Artest, after the forward was accused of grabbing, pushing and slapping his wife during an argument earlier this year.
Artest pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor domestic violence charge in March and was sentenced to 100 hours of community service and a 10-day work project. He also was fined $600 and ordered to get counseling.

Yeah, that hit espn, and apparently came from the Bee this morning. I almost posted it over, but its such a touchy topic.

So I am going to try to set a tone here: Justin just had his lawyer let it be known to the world that he had himself a menage a trois! :D Now the appropriateness of that smiley is entirely dependent on whether it was consensual or not, but still...humor may be the path around the he said/she said ick.

If he DOES see the charges dropped or whatnot, he's probably going to return to practice in a Hugh Hefner smoking jacket. ;)

P.S. While the topic makes it near impossible, let's avoid the ickiness or broad sociological theorems for a bit and this can stay open. Otherwise...

I am curious if they video taped it. They seem to be very confident and that would definitely be a case closed situation.

That definitely occured to me as well -- would make that search make sense. JWill's own sex tape.

The girl said that she had not drank until she got to Justin's house then she got dizzy.

Now how many ppl do you know stay a club until it CLOSES then goes to a party and then leaves that party to go off with man and his girlfriend and then drinks for the first time that night.

To me she hurt her case by saying that she didn't drink until. Because if you leave a party with a man and his girlfriend that late you know what is going to happen i am sure they talked about it before leaving. So to me that means consent being as how she wasn't intoxicated when she left with them.

I am not the lawyer here but, Brick is it me or did she hurt herself by saying that.

She could have been the DD for the night.

Anyway, I am not sure how Justin's lawyer claiming that Justin is innocent is news. I think that we all just need to wait and see.

I wonder how long of a process we are looking at? Is it safe to assume we will not be seeing Justin on this team unless charges are dropped in the near future?

Kobe played while the trial was going on so. I am guessing Justin will be with the team opening night.

Doubt that actually, and yes really because of a double standard. Have real doubts the Kings would risk the appearance of carrying a sex offender on their team over a guy like Justin Wiliams. Its Kobe...yeah. But Justin...you would hope they would at least pick up the contract and stash him on the reserve list until they knew more. Returning to humor...the act itself was probably a good way to impress a couple of playboys like the Maloofs. :p
