Props to Petrie!

And yet, oddly enough, most Houston fans think they got trashed.

Sorry, I'll just agree once again to disagree with your assessment of what's good vs. what's bad.

Have a nice day.

GO KINGS!!!!

In all fairness, HOU fans felt they got trashed on the initial trade with SAC. But after the NY deal, I think they feel pretty good about themselves. They were able to land Martin, Hill, the right swap spots this year with NY (which is a positive) and future 1st.

The Artest deal got us to the 2nd round for the first time in over a decade. I think most people in houston are happy to live with that.

And we are quite happy with the development of Donte Greene, and Omri Casspi which is what the Houston pick turned into. I'll take that trade.

Lets just be entirely honest here. This is one of the 3 worst franchises in the NBA at the moment. If you have disagreed with the majority of the decisions over the last 5 years, the data on your side would lean towards you being right. Just sayin...

I think many are ignoring the time this opens up for the young players we want to see more of as well. We wanted more time for Casspi, Garcia, etc.....

We also have a better post presence in Landry than we did previously. Not a "home run" trade deal, but I think we improved and took a step in the right direction in toughness and attitude. We also have more cap space for signings or to use in trades.

I think this is, in general, a good trade.

Come on I would not say that. We have a lot of young talent that a lot of teams would envy. I would say more then 3 teams atleast would love to be in our position.

They also took on additional salary while Sac and NY did not, we reduced our spending significantly after this season.

I like Landry, but he is another tweener. Is he equal swap talent wise with KMart? Remains to be seen.
Its not purely on talent though. We get a good energy frontcourt player who comes off the bench and gives you 17/6 in 28 minutes at $3million per season. Thats the sort of bargain we had with Bobby Jackson back in the golden years.

On top of that you get another youngster to look at in Dorsey AND you get more under the cap to the point where you could be a major player in the FA market in the summer. We have some $20+ million coming off the books after this season. Thats enough room for a max player if we decide to spend it.

So this summer, give it a best shot to sign one of the best FAs out there and you might just get lucky AND get another lottery pick. Add that to already young, promising and exciting group of Reke, Casspi, Greene, JT and Hawes and you could well pull a OKC next year and be perennial contender in the not too distant future.

This was a good deal. In a perfect world it would have been nice to get a 1st round pick out of it but even without it, its still a pretty good deal.

Can I get you guys some cheese to go with your whine?

This deal moves the team in the right direction and points to more big changes for next season. What could possibly be wrong with this. It seems that some would only be happy with a deal that has no risk and only great potential. Let me know when that deal comes along eh.

Fine with me. I don't base my opinions on what the national media has to say. I'd rather look at my team and form my own opinions. To each his/her own...

The national media said drafting Tyreke was an epic fail. I think you have a pretty good leg to stand on, while some others don't.....

And Houston was willing to take on more salary than NY or Sac, because they believe Martin can help this team right now to get into the playoffs and to have some success in the playoffs.

Houston is in a completely different needs situation than Sacramento or NY, who both want to clear the decks and have room to manuever for the future. Cap room gives a whole lot of flexibility. We can sign a FA, or do a sign and trade for someone we want. Or, if we want to do some trading we can take back more salary than we send out.

(By the way, since some people are bringing it up about this summer, I don't think we get a MLE or the biannual exception [I forget the acronym], if we are not over the salary cap. So there's two things you won't have to worry about GP using.)

We are not going anywhere this year and I think most of us knew that before the season started. It's all about next year and the year after. But if you see no difference between last year's team and this year's, I don't know what to tell you.

Yes I am aware of that. Houston's goal was to not shed salary, but to get better in the present and compete right now, which is exactly what they did along with adding some additional pieces. They got their immediate impact player along with young prospects. My original point had nothing to do with SAC's situation, but rather that the deal improved drastically for HOU with the addition of NY to the mix.

Also, this trade actually took houston below the luxury tax threshold. Plus with some cash from new york, houston is actually saving between 12 and 15 million dollars.

Carl Landry is the one player I would want from the Rockets in a trade and somehow we got him (with an affordable $3 million option for next season) another young player and a bunch of expiring contracts for Kevin. Not a bad trade I think in terms of "realistic NBA deals which actually happen". If you wanted a kingsfans.com message board deal than I can see why you'd be disappointed, but really I think we made out like bandits on this one. If you look at where we were and where we are now, this was a good move for the future of the team.

Now we're going into this off-season with a future All-Star in Evans, Greene and Casspi as high-energy wing players who are both very good players either in the starting lineup or a sixth man role, super role-player Carl Landry (aka the toughest mofo in the league), two occasionally promising young bigs in Thompson and Hawes, and what is currently looking like a top 5 draft pick. That's not a bad set up for a max contract player looking to move to a contender. Every key player on our team is young and projects to get even better. I'd say we're one big arena deal away from a very promising future.
