Props for the unsung hero

There are players that seem to garner all the attention. They're flashy or they're named Ron Artest or they can soar like eagles or they're named Ron Ron, etc.

We have at least one player on the team who, IMHO, hasn't received much credit for the job he's done lately, possibly because he committed a cardinal sin by coming right out and saying he wanted to start.

The player, of course, is Kenny Thomas. After reading a lot of the threads around here lately I realized I've been as guilty as anyone else of NOT giving Kenny credit where credit is due.

He's not flashy; he makes some dumb mistakes. But what he also does is consistently get in there and get his share + some of rebounds. And it's a good thing he does.

His shot is sometimes erractic but since he's started, he has been a pretty consistent contributor.

So, Kenny, this one's for you!

I think Kenny would be getting more props if he could cut his turnovers down. It just seems like the guy is good for 3-4 turnovers a game.

I agree though, Kenny has been solid. Let us not forget that after the CWebb trade, he nearly averaged a double double for us.

Interestingly enough, the Kings seem to do the best when they average between 10-14 turnovers a game. I noticed that the last couple of years doing the PBP and the prediction game.

-----------------------------

Not that it has anything to do with anything, but we'll just let Kenny have his 3-4 and make sure the rest of the team doesn't overspend their allotment.

;)

Yeah, I remember in a game from last season, someone (forgot who) said that Kenny get the "quietest" double-doubles.

Interesting thread. I haven't thought about Kenny in this way. Actually, Kenny reminds me of Kenny from South Park. Much like his Comedy Central namesake Kenny gets killed on this forum in every episode that he appears in (You killed Kenny! You ********!). I think that in the minds of most Kings fans, Kenny is inseparable from The Trade, and he is associated with "flexible" tweener PF and poison pill contract.

That's very unfortunate and unfair on Kenny. For what he really is ("flexible" tweener on a poison-pill contract ;)), he is realy giving us something to cheer about these days.

I agree with VF21's assessment. I still say he has been ignored or even distained largely because he is not particularly loquacious, cute, and fuzzy. During the recent Kenny Thomas-Mike Lame radio debaucle, Kenny challenged Mike and Grant with, "What do you want me to do, carry around pom-poms?" That about sums it up.

He is no Bobby or Chris, but he is a very good player and the Kings need him right now.

KT is the man when it comes to grabbing rebounds, and playing some decent D at the PF spot, but at the start of the year he seemed to *****, and moan about coming off the bench and it showed in his stats. Only now is he playing like he should have the whole year bench, or starting.

Common guys, this is a thread trying to give props to Kenny...Not bash him for whatever we can find.

And all I know is he's one of the few people in the NBA that can constantly give you a double-double...

And for that I give him his props!

Keep up the "good" KT we're knowing right now!

I think the past few games since the trade pretty well illustrate that Kenny can be a great roll player on a good team. The games prior to the trade I think illustrated that he is not the kind of player that makes a struggeling team better. props for what he brings and I hope once SAR is back in the starting line up Kenny will contenue to produce.

I love Kenny's tenacious rebounding and aggressiveness, but what the hell happened to his jumpshot? He was almost automatic last year and was even our go to guy at times. This year I can't help but cringe every time he takes a shot. Nevertheless, I really like his 'curmudgeon' attitude that fits in with guys like Bonzi, Brad, and Ron and I wouldn't mind keeping him on our team if his contract wasn't so god awful.

i really think kenny should start where he and both abdur-rahim are effective becasue when shareef starts kenny does not seem to be able to have good effect off the bench

kenny's hustle on boards on the offensive end as well as the putbacks that come from it really have impressed me, the only thing that kinda upsets me is the silly errors which seem to be apart of opposing teams making an offensive run as well as his unreliable jumpshot (which indeed does look unreliable if not ugly this season), buts its really the first point i talked about about he's effort on the boards and under the basket which make up for those negative issues

anyway kenny has impressed me the past month ever since he has started sooo keep it up! :)

GO K-9!!!!!

If SAR can start grabbing 8+ rebounds on a consistent basis, I think he should start. That's what we need at the PF spot, along with defense. That's why Kenny might be more suited for being that role player in the starting lineup. He does some of the dirty work, which I have yet to see from SAR. Props to Kenny but he should still be able to produce even if he has to come off the bench.

I saw SAR do the dirty work 3 times in the Grizzlies or Bulls game.

About KT, I love his hustle, rebounding, quickness, d isn't bad. His triple-double and big crunch-time plays vs. Lakers were just awesome.

I love this thread. I have been a KT fan and supporter all year and have stated so a few times on this thread. He really hustles and has been rebounding well.

Contrary to what others have said on this board, KT did not pee and moan about coming off the bench early in the year. He played hard then as well. He is just a better player as a starter. Hopefully, his 17-19 ft. jump shots will start dropping like they did last season soon and he will be even more valuable.

I'll never forget the whooping Kenny put on the Lakers last year.

this is a funny thread...i would have called him the unsung goat...oh well, im glad some Kings fans like what he is doing. (maybe another GM will;) )

unbelievable...

...that people don't respect kenny thomas.

This guy battles inside every night for boards, and his toughness is exactly what we need on this team.

Between the scoring skills of Miller, Bibby, Artest, and the newly found skills of kmart, this guy fits perfectly with the team - A role player. Seriously, he's the fifth option on offense, and he sets good picks and makes other players around him better be getting them second chances.

Damn it's good to see the kings as a definisve/rebounding force finally. The high flying big scoring years were fun, but a team like this has much more post-season potential then any we've seen in recent days (maybe not this season, but in seasons to come). I just hope the maloof brothers don't get too impatient...it takes about three years to build a championship contending team.

Stick with this starting lineup and send SAR,Bonzi, and Garcia off the bench, and you've got yourselves a team.

Yes, Kenny may not be the most tactful man, but hwoooooo doggy is he making me happy lately. Those Double Doubles are a thing of beauty especially with our history of non rebounds. Way to go Kenny!!!! Keep it up!!!!!

I agree with this thread, Kenny doesn't get the credit that is befitting of his contibutions, in large part due to his own PR indiscretions.

That said, it's pretty clear there isn't enough room for him and SAR on this team, and I doubt he'll be around past the trade deadline.
