Proposal: Artest to Suns

Dime Dropper

All-Star
I don't see this happening, but from both teams perspectives, does this not make too much sense?

Kings trade:
Ron Artest

Suns trade:
Trade exception (8 mil., I think)
2008 1st round pick (Via Atlanta)

It just seems to fit perfectly. Phoenix have ahole at SF and defense is a need since Marion is gone. It's obvious why Sac do it.

Am I right in saying that Phoenix has a trade exception? Or am I going crazy? I'll delete this thread if I'm just beginning to go senile :p

Ron for a 1st .. He is worth more than that..

He clearly isn't. I suspect that if GP had got offered this deal, Ron would be gone by now. Don't forget that that pick could be a lottery pick, if not then from 16-20. Good players can be got in that range. Ron, all things considered, is not going to fetch a whole lot.

+1 especially as the pick looks to soar into the 15-20 range for sure. If you deal Ron here YOU GOTTA dump KT. You do that and we actually have about 8-10 million or so play with this summer.

If Petrie cannot dump KT then he will sit on the bench and not play another minute of basketball while he is King.
Does KT want to do this or will he agree to a buy out.. If he doesn't agree, who will want a player that has not played in three years. It will be his decision to make.

Trading Artest and dumping KT are two entirely different matters. If you wait and insist on not doing one without the other you risk doing neither. If Petrie gets an offer for Artest, he'll view it on its own merits IMHO. After all, if Ron does decide to opt out as he's said, even though he's somewhat retracted that statement, we get nothing in return. At this point, trading Artest could just be the next step in the rebuilding process. Doing something with KT might or might not happen at the same time.

i like this trade :) i could see the suns doing it also to stay close or under the cap. they traded 2 1st rounders already. it gives them that lock down defender when they traded marion away.

Suns are near the luxury tax.

They aren't adding salary.

End of story.

they did w/ snaq. if they think it will push em over the top, i'm sure they'll think twice about the lux. tax. nash isn't getting any younger so they need to make their push soon.

Actually they barely added any salary this year with the trade.

You are far too picky. This is not about the "now". This is about putting ourselves in the best position possible for the future. You don't have to dump KT just because you're trading Ron. Trading for Ron is risky enough for the other team without having to take on a horrible contract. One of the things making Artest relatively attractive is his small contract, insisting on moving KT as well negates that. It's highly unlikely we'll have cap space this summer, not many big FAs about anyway. And even if we did have the space, we wouldn't have the talent around that person to do anything. We'd be right back to a season ago.

Ron Artest is unstable. Ron Artest has an option at the end of the year. Rons play is often disruptive. Factoring these into his trade value is realistic. Basing what we should get in return for him simply on what he does on the court is ludicrous. Whoever takes Ron has to take his off-court problems as well, warts and all. As far as I'm concerned, Phoenix would be the one turning down this trade, not us.

Ron isn't going to mess with Shaq or Amare or Nash for that matter. Put him on the Suns and you can plan the parade in PHX. That would be the best team in the NBA without question.

They barely added any salary with the Shaq trade because they gave out two contracts in Marion and banks.

In your proposal, the Suns are dishing out zero salary while having to incur Artest's ~$8M this season. That puts them in the tax.
