Preseason Statistics

Don't Make Me Use The Bat
I thought for a little late weekend night doodle, I would put up the Kings preseason stats thus far. Its preseason, but we have been playing our rotation guys from the start, and everybody has been getting roughly equal minutes. I have seen 3 of the 4 games, I know many of you have not been able to see any. Of special interest and possible concern are our shooting percentages. Hey, we've won 3 of 4, for what that is worth. But there are only like 2 guys on the whole team who seem to really be thriving offensively (the two gunners Thornton and Brooks -- that may not be coincidence given Smart's understanding of the game). In any case, breaking it down a bit by position:

Bigs: 1 sloppy Cousins and the 3 man scrum for the other minutes:
Cousins: 4gms 25.8min 16.8pts (.415 .200 .815) 8.8reb 1.5ast 1.0stl 1.8blk 3.8TO
Thomps: 4gms 23.8min 7.5pts (.400 .000 .714) 5.3reb 0.5ast 0.2stl 0.8blk 0.8TO
Robinsn: 4gms 20.0min 6.0pts (.381 .000 .727) 5.3reb 1.0ast 1.5stl 0.5blk 1.5TO
CHayes: 4gms 20.8min 4.0pts (.667 .000 .000) 5.5reb 1.8ast 0.2stl 0.5blk 1.5TO

SFs: aka gee, I wonder who should start?
Johnson: 4gms 21.0min 9.1pts (.472 .222 .500) 5.0reb 1.5ast 0.5stl 1.0blk 2.2TO
F.Garcia: 3gms 15.0min 5.3pts (.455 .455 .333) 1.3reb 1.0ast 0.7stl 0.7blk 0.0TO (yes, every shot has been from 3)
TOutlaw: 2gms 17.0min 4.0pts (.250 .000 1.00) 1.5reb 0.0ast 0.5stl 0.0blk 1.0TO
Salmons: 1gm 22.0min 6.0pts (.273 .000 .000) 1.0reb 4.0ast 0.0stl 1.0blk 1.0TO

Guards:
Thornton: 4gms 27.0min 16.0pts (.568 .375 .842) 3.3reb 1.5ast 2.0stl 0.2blk 1.0TO
T. Evans: 4gms 24.8min 10.5pts (.390 .286 1.00) 3.5reb 2.3ast 0.5stl 0.8blk 1.8TO
Fredette: 4gms 16.8min 10.0pts (.440 .333 .813) 1.5reb 1.3ast 0.5stl 0.0blk 1.2TO
A.Brooks: 3gms 14.7min 9.3pts (.563 .429 .778) 0.3reb 1.0ast 0.0stl 0.0blk 1.3TO
IThomas: 4gms 20.5min 7.8pts (.320 .455 .909) 1.8reb 4.8ast 0.8stl 0.0blk 2.0TO

notice the core of full sized equally matched personnel running from JT through JJ. Similar productivity, the rebounding support. Then notice how terrible all our other SFs and PGs on the glass. Also notice the assist numbers for the PGs other than IT. Gunners, not PGs.

I like Cisco's shooting percentage from three! If he keeps nailing the open shots, he's definitely worth spot minutes. Note that IT's percentage is the same from three. Very nice.

Cousins' blocks are fantastic, love to see him keep that D up.

Thornton has been damn good.

I wonder what IT's percentage on the 2-pointers is? Thornton on the other hand is thriving so far shooting from anywhere.

so going by the stats only 2-3 players are putting up good numbers. the other are below their average. more time their stats will go up. once the rotation get shrunck down and the stars are getting 30+ min a game meaning less Garcia, Hayes, Outlaw, Jimmer, Robinson. I think we will have more chemistry when a true 6-8 man rotation is in place with the other 2-3 gettting spot min here and there we will be better. Although like you said we have won 3-4 and team % hasn't been to bad. TO's need to go down. Ast % has had its moment. Reb can be better. All in all we have alot of improvment to do and that is always. Never be satisfied never be complacent.

I'm not concerned at all about IT's ability to shoot. Last year he proved he's a very good shooter. It's still soon to make certain conclusions aboutwith such a small sample size, but so far there is a huge gulf in assists between IT and Brooks. This team needs a guy who makes assists at the pg position. So I would give IT the edge over Brooks in the starter's race.

Tyreke's numbers look similar to me as last year (I haven't checked, but that's my impression).

Johnson needs to get major minutes at the 3. I'd like to see him get 35+ minutes from here on out.

Thornton has been damn good.

As Cousins improves his conditioning I bealive he will become a better shot blocker similar to what Marc Gasol has done. And as for Thornton
