My thing on Vucevic is this. With Orlando he was getting 17 shot attempts per game. I think with us he will be getting more like 12. So question is will everyone be happy at 14 pts 10 reb vs 20pts? People will look at ppg and say he wasn’t worth it. When in fact he is same player just less shots. Is a 14/10 guy worth 25 mil?
He'll never live up to that money, just like Barnes never did. But, it still isn't the max and in the Kings current situation it gives them something to add as a 3rd piece this summer. At max Vuc is scary, but Barnes, Vuc, and something else decent like maybe a Trevor Ariza is super tempting. Roll it out and see what happens.

My vote is for a) Dedmon and b) Bryant. Although I can still get excited about a few high dollar centers (eg Vuc, Capela, and Horford), I agree with those who believe that in today’s NBA, you don’t want to pay top dollar for a Center.

I’m pretty much in agreement with this. Dedmon or Bryant would make the most sense although Washington extended the qualifying offer to Bryant so I’m not sure how committed they would be to matching an offer for him.

Horford would be a great addition too, my concern with the 4th year is more about being able to retain fox, Bagley and Giles and less about whether or not he would be playing at a high level at age 37. Whether he’s playing good or not I don’t want to lose those guys do to luxury tax issues

I want a guy who is 7'0+, can hit the 3, all NBA defender. Can bang with the big centers and step out and guard the opposing PG when needed. Rim runner. Rebounding machine. Can get 5-6 assists a game. High bb iq. Cheap contract.

If we can't find that, then I'll settle for Vuc.

Haha! I don't think that guy exists out there. The player that matches that description closest just got traded from NO to the Fakers couple of weeks ago.

The more I'm seeing these options the more I remember the modern NBA is an arms race. Vuc is probably the only fit next to a Bagley that does have the talent to make a difference. Defense shmefence. Just have to hope someone doesn't max him all the way out because I can see Orlando doing just that if they have to.

Agreed. It's not about finding the perfect player. No such thing and he wouldn't volunteer to come to Sac if there were. Have to look for the right fit. Play to your strengths. The Kings identity does not revolve around defense. If they bring in any defensive specialists, it will be in a backup role.

There is an old saying that is yet to be proven wrong. Offense sells tickets, defense wins titles.

I don't think Kings will have any trouble scoring with Fox, Buddy, Bagley, Barnes (if he is back which is likely) and Bogdan. They will however have trouble stopping the other team.

In order for this team to get better and take the next step, they must improve defensively and rather significantly. Even the new coach touched on this in his press conference.

At this point exactly. I think as a concept the impact of a defense first team isn't what it was, but yeah, you have to have some capable defensive players. I like what the Kings have with Fox, Buddy, and Barnes if he comes back. That's a solid trio on the perimeter. If they did land Vucevic he's an OK defender in some senses and there is still the chance add some role players that fit the specialist role you bring up. Perimeter D is way more important than interior D these days anyway and if they have the tools to play small when necessary for matchups it should be fine. I'm certainly warming to the idea of going after Vuc hardcore. He and Bagley together is tempting on paper because you should virtually be able to put both anywhere on the floor at any given point offensively. So, if you're facing a team without the same size, you could just post the hell out of teams with any of Barnes, Bagley, or Vuc depending on who is being defended by who.

I watched almost the whole playoffs. While you have to bring on both ends, it's not an NBA where you can expect to lock teams down anymore or build your team to be that from a roster perspective and expect to get anywhere. It's basically not allowed from what I saw. The one team that was built to be a stopper team were the Bucks and it only got them so far. The Jazz are another example and they were blah in the grand scheme. The Thunder couldn't rely on stopping teams when it came down to it either. The Celtics were built to D up as well but they ended up middle of the road. The real second best team in the east were probably the Sixers and they weren't too many spots above the Kings this year in defensive rating. Portland was middle of the pack. If you look at the top 10 teams in defense this year you had a mixed bag. The Bucks, Jazz, Pacers, Thunder, Raptors, Celtics, Heat, Magic, Grizzlies, and the Nuggets. Now, the top 10 offensive teams were the Warriors, Rockets, Blazers, Bucks, Raptors, Spurs, Nuggets, Sixers, Clippers, and Celtics. Outside of the Spurs that's almost every serious playoff team on that list. It's interesting to say the least. Obviously in a perfect world you're top 10 in both, but if you had to choose, I'd say the offensive side wins hands down.

Are you telling me Raptors were not built as a two way team?! They just happen to have defense at every position on the field.

The Raptors (featuring perhaps the best single perimeter in the league in Kawhi, two big men known for their defense in Gasol and Ibaka, and great perimeter defender Danny Green) obviously were not a defensive minded team.

Amazing isn’t it. Their starting 5 has a good to excellent defender at every position. Lowry is arguably the weakest link there and he is no slouch on the defensive end either.

Then you look at their bench and you have defense there too.

Even the team they beat in the finals in GSW when fit are one of the best defensive teams in the league.

Let's put it this way. It's easier to coach up a team to make them better defenders than it is to make players great offensively. That doesn't mean you can make any player a good defender. But, there is a reason "Project" players are ones who don't have an offensive game and potential star draftees are ones who have demonstrated an ability to score.

Getting a player like Adams will make the team better defensively in the regular season but it also starts to alter the teams style of play on the offensive end.

Where did I say that. I very clearly said this and they were this:

"Obviously in a perfect world you're top 10 in both, but if you had to choose, I'd say the offensive side wins hands down."

However, Klay doesn't go down and they might be sitting at home right now ringless. Look at the list of teams in top 10 offensively and compare to those in the top 10. You'll see the contrast.

Err GSW just happen to have darn good defenders at 3 of the starting 5 positions and a bench full of very good defenders. Klay is one of the best SG defenders out there. KD also excellent defender. Green a great defender and former DPOY. Iggy, Livingston, Looney.....all very good defenders.

Golden State is not only an offensive powerhouse but they are one of the better defensive teams since they started their dominance. Offense is great and all but you are simply not winning without being a pretty good defensive team. That much is pretty clear I would have thought.

Yes, but they have already shown to be an on again, off again defensive team. This year they hovered outside of the top 10. In the end the list it was it is. Without fail the top 10 offensive teams even when on the outside of being defensive stalwarts were in a better position overall. If it comes to building offense or defense, that list shows one side being more prolific than the other. It's an offensive league so if the argument is about choice and "accepting what you are" it looks like it's better to accept being an offensive powerhouse over a defensive one.

Steven Kyler who knows the Orlando scene fairly well believes that Orlando and Vuc have a roughly 4 year 22M per deal in place. It appears Vuc May be off the table

Someone should update the options and add Hassan Whiteside. I think Miami is gonna press the reset button very soon and Hassan opting in would certainly put him on the trading block, especially with Adebayo progressing.

Whiteside certainly still have a soft side for Sacramento and a future pick for Whiteside would be something the Kings are capable of.
I voted WCS, but if we can't make that work Whiteside would be next for me. We are going to be shooting a lot more 3s this year so an elite rebounder would be nice. WCS isnt that, but he's so damn athletic and fits with our style of play.

The encouraging thing is that we have options. In terms of fit, disregarding everything else, Horford is arguably the best fit but other aspects are important here too, namely age and length of the deal.

The last thing we want to do is have our new C take away minutes from Bagley and Giles. We would still be looking to give these two significant minutes and experience. Ia am not talking 40mpg but for Giles it would be 25-27 and Bagley would be more than that. Horford won’t play more than 30mpg, even if he reaches that. He would just sort of fit in the background and be he glue guy, stud role player out there. Having him as a mentor for Bagley and Giles would be invaluable for their development.

I still get apprehensive about his age and the length of the deal. Disregarding that, Al would be a very good fit. Good defender, can score, pass and shoot from beyond the arc. Still the 4 year $112m deal scares me a bit to be honest.

In terms of value, Capela might just be the best get.

Today I'm leaning Al Horford.
He may be pushing the use by date but if I'm not mistaken he's highly respected around the league which should help keep us in games too often decided by refs.
Tough WC we live in so looking at all angles, besides pretty complete skill set.
