Actually Buddy has been pretty underwhelming so far. After the way he ended the season this year I really saw him taking that next step. I thought Buddy might grab a hold of the sg position with BB8 down.

Love Giles and Fox. Two bright peices. I have faith Buddy will be fine and i can see "it" there with Bagley. Gabriel looks like he has some of that dog in him too that giles has. Need more of that. Kid has potentoal. At least he will fight defensively like sampson last year but has Wayyyyyy more offensive potential.

Fox
Buddy
Gabriel
Bagely
WCS (soon to be Giles but think he fiys well in a bench role to start the season. Wcs will get his chance this year)

What bothers me the most when we play the Warriors is the exposing of just how soft our 3 pt defense is - not only do we allow open 3s, but we allow the other team to enjoy such a rhythm of favorite shots that Clay Thompson always looks like the best perimeter shooter in the history of the nba. What happened to the days of defense that when a shooter gets in rhythm, you knock then down with a couple of hard fouls to let them know you're there, and create a little tenseness in them that they might get hit again. Instead, we just let them walk around and find their spots like it's a damn drill, or commit touch fouls that do nothing to shake their rhythm. I little nasty goes a long way against soft perimeter shooters.

the problem here lies is that the Kings' youth has too much nice not enough nasty, I'd imagine Harry is the one who would show a bit more nasty than he has but there really hasn't been much resistance by any of the players, let's see how long this goes on for.

I’m not sure I see the need for WCS to play. Do we know by now he’s not a future piece? If so I think Kosta is the better player, with Giles/Bagley/Bjelica. I think Randolph can be better in spot minutes to give pop off the bench

When WCS is talking about getting paid, i wonder if it occurs to him to imprint the game so your team wins, to have impact on games.

I don’t think you can pair Bagley with WCS. Neither can shoot from the perimeter well enough to keep the defense honest. As a result neither have enough room to do what they do well. If Bagley or Willie are on the floor it must be with Giles, Skal or Beli.

Good point

If Joerger lied again about changing the offense he needs the Mike Malone treatment (Malone did not deserve it), it looks exactly the same as all his previous time here with unskilled average bigs handling and making choices instead of being of the receiving end of a dunk. Reggie Evans at the elbow was more effective than this crap.

You dont want them backing down/hook shotting in that pairing. You want them mopping up boards from missed 3s or PnR.

Ugly game.

Complete lack of cohesion on offense n defense. Spacing was an issue on offense and the defense was a mess (at times it was man, others they switched--which the warriors abused each time).

I am simply not a fan of Mason's game. Weird to do a 180 on a player, but I have. He's a 5'10 pg, who's preference is to take it into the trees each time.

Skal looks like he’s regressed—if that’s even possible. The added muscle hasn't helped much--still slow, still gets pushed around. It's probably time to cut bait.

Bad Willie showed up, although the stats say he had a decent game. Give me the type of player that seems to have poor stats, but has an impact each game.

Our bigs can't screen for sh*t. It's night and day compared to the Warriors. How hard is it to do a proper screen. Kosta will help here.

Buddy got impaled by JVD--and rightfully so. Dude, you can't go under the screen against a guy like Klay. You gotta get into his body and make him drive, especially when he has 3 inches on you.

If there's a game where JJ should be ashamed it's this one--you can't make open shots or allow a lil bump to get you to miss an easy layup. Go watch Klay and KD, who convert the same shots/layups that you miss. Dude's soft. I don't know if you can fix soft.

Fox had problems with Ullis. Couldn't outquick/fast him. He has problems with the shorter, just as fast types (like Ullis) or the shorter, beast types (like Mitchell).

Bags was our most productive player last night.

Silver lining, our three best perimeter shooters (outside of Buddy) were on the bench last night. Bjielica, Yogi, and Bogs. We need them for spacing.

Some it I attribute to mental fatigue in the back to back. We shall see what continues.

Too early to give up on Skal but he went back to the super bent over at the waist defensive stance again. Even if Skal has superior lateral speed he can’t use it wiith his weight that unbalanced.

I thought his help side defense was improved last year. Significantly improved. He hasn't had a chance to show much of that over the last few games. don't know how the added muscle has impacted him there. Besides, help side def is more about a player's ability to read a game than his quick twitch reactions.

That said, Skal hasn't worked on his biggest issue from last year, which is his handles. There was a stretch where he failed to dribble (to drive or create) at the high post in like 10 straight games last year. Defenders crowded him and basically turned him into a ghost by stuffing his shooting. And this year, it looks like the Kings have him playing even further out--making him pretty much a glorified 7 foot SF on offense.

When set on offense, the Kings are confusing right now. There are moments when it looks like they're a dribble drive team (Fox, Mason) and other times when it looks like they're trying to copy the early 2000 teams where they operate out of the high post with two great passing big men. The problem with running an early 2000s version of the Kings, outside of Giles (passing) and Bogs (vision, passing, shooting, and cutting), I don't know if the Kings have the players to operate that way.

The Kings have vets they can turn to when things are not going well. Yogi, Bjelica, Koufos, Zbo, Shumpert

our most effective lineup on offense might end up being Kosta, Bjelica, Bogdan, Buddy, Fox. Kosta to set the picks, Fox to penetrate, BBB to shoot.

I think having another ball handler out there in Bogs will open things up for everyone, he is a very smart player and experienced too so he would make the game easier for the rest

so i know i have criticized Mason and praised Giles like many in these game threads, but looking at the stats from our 3 preseason games, Giles is shooting 42% from the field, 56% from the line. Mason is shooting 80% from the field, 100% from the line, and averaging 5 assists while barely turning the ball over. why the dichotomy between the stats and the impression. is this the matter of expectations? is it that the stats don't match the game impact?

They are but I don’t see Joerger lasting this season our schedule till January is absolutely brutal. Something would have to give

Joerger isn't going anywhere, at least not for this season. Do you think there is additional pressure on Dave now since Vlade came out and said he has his own young "superteam"?

The more I watch JJ I seriously wonder if he would be a better shoot guard.
I said this last year that I think he’s better at SG. His measurements are essentially the same as Bogdan yet Bogdan is definitely a SG and Jackson is definitely a SF to some people. Go figure?

Bogdan
Height w/o shoes: 6’5.2”
Wingspan: 6’11.1”
Standing reach: 8’8.3”
Weight: 200

Jackson
Height w/o shoes: 6’5.75”
Wingspan: 6’11”
Standing reach: 8’8.5”
Weight: 201
