Floyd Mayweather Jr. — The boxer said he would like to put together a group to make an offer and was "very, very interested in buying the Clippers."

Preparing for Saturday night's fight against Marcos Maidana in Las Vegas, Mayweather said that "it's not just talk" about acquiring the club. "I want to do it."

I don't know how seriously the Mayweather bid could be taken given his previous comments about Manny Pacquiao and also his gambling hobby.

Donald Sterling won’t go down without a fight, according to an NBA executive who is close to the disgraced owner of the Clippers, and will sue the league if the other 29 owners vote to force him to sell.

The wheels are in motion to remove Sterling, a process that the executive said Wednesday night would lead to a lawsuit by the disgraced owner, possibly tying up the future of the team for years.

“He is not going to sell the team,” the executive said.

If Sterling is removed and the new owner installed, what are the consequences going to be on the personnel of the organization? Is the new owner going to clean house, a la Vivek? If so, wouldn't that be the injustice of injustices - people having nothing to do with Sterling's racism getting robbed of their jobs because of the offended sensibilities of others. I wonder what Silver would say to that?

I had it at 1.7 ish... 2 bill is higher than I thought it would go... but it doesn't surprise me in the least. Especially considering who's bidding. This only adds to the Kings/Clippers rivalry. The owners (Ballmer, Vivek) were in a dogfight only a year ago!

Seattle is a very good market, but their politicians suck and the NBA holds grudges.

Pretty much. Yup. Maybe not all teams made that jump in value, but the California teams definitely got a shot in the arm.

Just think about it like this: if Vivek put the Kings up for sale RIGHT NOW... where would the bidding start? I'd have to think at LEAST 800 mil. It's partly due to the fact that there are a lot of new owners and the opportunity to buy a franchise in the near to medium term future is very slim.

I was thinking the same thing, but remember that it has to be voted on. And remember that they have to prove that the market no longer supports the team and that the arena isn't viable for future use. Those two items would be impossible to get around at this point.

I'd be shocked if one of the provisions of the sale wasn't that the team had to remain in L.A. at least while there is a viable arena etc.

I don't know. The size of the LA market really can't be overstated. The Bucks sold for, what, $550 million?

That said, the price definitely isn't going down. I'm sure Vivek and co are very happy with their investment so far.

I don't think the team is worth $2 bil but that's not for me to say. My guess, though, is that the team is not worth $2 bil if it leaves LA. Would the Lakers be worth $2 bil if they moved to Seattle. I doubt it. Much of the value of a team is dependent on the media contracts, etc.

IIRC they rewrote some of the rules about teams moving after the Clippers moved to LA but my google-fu is not strong this morning. I may be incorrect on this.

I always thought no chance the team moves for a sale over a billion, at that point you are buying the market. It is still the Lakers market and it will take decades to overcome that, not one superstar tandem on a 5-8 year run.
