Postgame Quotes-vs. Utah
Peja Stojakovic
“It was intensity on the defensive end. We did a good job and we eliminated the easy buckets. We got rebounds and we got it going offensively and we made some shots. Everytime you play Utah, you’ve got to manage the energy, they always play hard for 48 minutes.”
“When they grab and hold you for 30 minutes you get mad. I was just letting the referee know, if you are going to call by the rules, you should do it, and not let them get away from that.”
“When you play Utah, they are always going to play physically. They will grab and hold if they can’t guard you. You’ve just got to manage that, be calm, and play your game.”
“It’s over. We’ve got a game against the Clippers on Saturday. Hopefully Mike is going to be ready. We’ve got a couple of knew guys coming, and we’ve just got to play our game.”
Greg Ostertag
On how physical the game was:
“That’s just Jerry [Sloan]. You don’t expect to see stuff like that happen, and I don’t think it was intentional, I think he just got caught [Maurice Evnas], and that’s what he gets for jumping so high. But Jerry’s hands on. ‘Stick your nose in there, and if it gets busted, stick it back in’, that’s the way Jerry coaches.”
Darius Songaila
“It’s been a kind of weird situation these last couple of days. Guys leaving, guys coming in. I think everyone came in and contributed. We did a good job overall throughout the game and pulled it out.”
“I think we got some defensive stops, and made some shots. Basically it came down to the defensive end. We made some stops, got the rebounds, and ran down the loose balls. That’s where it all started.”
“You saw what was going on out there. Guys knocking their own teammates down, and a lot of bodies thrown around.”
On the flagrant foul on Maurice Evans: “I don’t think those guys had any chance of blocking that shot. I don’t think it was a smart play. It’s scary. I hope everything is ok with him [Maurice Evans]. I hope it’s just a cut.”

Coach Jerry Sloan
“We were wanting to be pushed around,we felt like it was tough for us to play back to back games. We got off to a good start quit executing, they came at us and took us out of a couple of things and it became a little too difficult for us.”
“We had a couple of times where we didn’t even go after the ball. You have to compete to be able to finish. You get them down to nine points in the ball game and the thing that bothered me as much as anything when they came to the basket we got little touch fouls. We must have committed five or six of those. Say we gave them six of them, we gave them three point plays. If you’re going to play like you’re in a give away game I guess that’s O.K., but this is the NBA and you’re allowed to foul guys. There’s no rule against it as long as you don’t do anything malicious. There was a couple things that appeared to be malicious, but I really don’t think they were. You have to make guys try to earn it at the free throw line and we just didn’t have that mentality.”
“I don’t know where some guys heads were when they went in the ball game.”
Forward Matt Harpring About the confrontations:
“It’s just playing the game. Stuff like that is going to happen when you play the game of basketball. It doesn’t mean people should get technical fouls. A technical should be deserved to get. There’s going to be some bickering out there, but that’s the game…It’s nothing personal”
“The first quarter, we played pretty well. I thought we executed well and did some things. And then in the fourth quarter we took a twenty-point lead down to nine and we just ran out of time. We started pressing with two minutes to go and then you know when your back is against the wall you start to trap it and they get easy buckets.”
Forward Carlos Boozer:
“I think we came out well. We had a good first quarter and then they picked it up and started playing the next two quarters tough and we couldn’t get over the hump. We had a couple of times when we got it within nine or eight, but then we couldn’t get over the hump.”
“We’re just playing basketball. Sometimes it’s going to be physical and sometimes it’s not. Most of the time we go after it and every game should be physical. If you’re playing hard it’s going to be that way.”
