Postgame Quotes-vs. Portland
Kings Coach Rick Adelman
“ They had a lot of energy tonight and they played hard. They made a little run in the first half and in the second half we came out and we were very consistent in the way we played. Kenny (Thomas) was really good the whole game long and Greg (Ostertag) gave us a lift in the start of the game and I really couldn’t believe it when Darius (Songaila) went down but fortunately it looks like he is going to be ok. That’s how we have to play. We’ve got a tough schedule ahead of us, we have Dallas coming on Thursday and every game we have to come out and play hard.”
“No, I needed him (Ostertag) it’s as simple as that. I had Brian (Skinner) out of the game, Corliss (Williamson), Kenny (Thomas) and Darius (Miles) who are all small as far as their front line and I just felt that I couldn’t afford to get Kenny or Darius in foul trouble if they started and then you have Greg. I just thought that starting the game where he (Ostertag) can match up with (Joel) Przybilla and he can get involved early. I told him before that he was going to start and that was the best option for us. Then we can come in the game with energy people and people who do some other things. Same with Kenny. Darius has just been getting foul trouble quickly and Kenny has just been in the league a little longer, little more experience and doesn’t pick up the fouls and that gives us Darius coming off the bench and I thought that was a good time to try that and it worked out.”
“Each time one of those happens you appreciate it more because you know when you look back you know how much effort went into it and you know the people around you from the coaching staff, you know the players and your own wife and family and what they have gone through and it just shows that there is a longevity there and it’s worth while to get one of those. You know everything that’s happened to get to that point. I have been really blessed to be in two great situations in Portland and the last seven in Sacramento has been terrific because this team has played at such a high level.
Mike Bibby:
“We played good and we played together and things were going our way tonight.”
“I think we were more aggressive defensively. When we play more aggressively it ties into our offense and I think that’s what happened.”
“[I thought] hopefully (Darius) is not hurt too bad. I was right behind the free throw line. I don’t really remember—really I just hope he’s all right.”
About injuries:
“I guess it happens. You just have to deal with it.”
On Rick Adelman:
“That’s a good accomplishment and I’m happy for him. We have a lot more to go were going to try to add to that list.”
Maurice Evans:
“We need some confidence going into playoffs and really find an identity because I don’t think we have one. Throughout the year we have had so many changes. If we can find an identity and find out the kind of team we are going to be, we can know and go into the playoffs with some confidence and make a statement. I think that’s important to have ‘swagger’.”
“I think everyone needs to understand their role and do what they do best. When we do that we maximize our potential and we see the type of team we can be.”
Eddie House:
“I was good. It was real good especially with Dallas coming in, to get things going the right way. Everybody played well. The starters played well tonight the whole second half—they controlled the game and that’s what we have to do to move forward.”
“I felt good. I came in got some open shots and knocked them down.”
“We definitely need to get swagger about ourselves and get things going in the right direction for playoffs.”
Is everyone understanding their role?
“I think they are. Kenny [Thomas] is coming in and playing well and knowing his role. Everyone is playing well off each other right now and it’s just going to get better.”
Greg Ostertag:
“(Rick) told me this morning he was going to start me. He put me on [Joel] Pryzbilla to keep him off the boards, but I didn’t do a good job though, did I? I got pretty anxious in the first half and got a little winded real quick. The second half I felt a lot better. I felt good. It was good to be on the court.”
What was your reaction?
“Like in Major League, [the guy] who busts his butt to make the team and runs outside and runs in circles. I was excited. I haven’t played in a while and an opportunity came in to get some good minutes and try to show if you put me in there I can do some good things.”
PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS
Coach Kevin Pritchard:
“The thing that impressed me about Sacramento is precision and execution. They’ve been running the same sets for four years, and Peja (Stojakovic) and (Mike) Bibby run them to death and they know all their options and all their counters and they are just an execution machine. This was a good learning experience for some of our younger guys because this game was bigger. It felt bigger, there was more energy in the game, and even though we had some good individual performances, that’s the reason why the Sacramento Kings are 42-27. They’re a hell of a team. They are going to make some runs in the playoffs.”
On Joel Pryzbilla’s game tonight:
“Off the charts. I think he missed two dunks, and to be six for nine, he could have been eight for nine, with 21 rebounds, and eight block shots. That’s a monster game for anybody in this league. We rely on him so much.”
Joel Pryzbilla:
“It was one of those nights. I wish we got the victory, it was a tough loss. We competed hard. If we keep showing signs of improvement like that, we’re going to be a very good ball club.”
“They (the Kings) were getting their shots. Stojakovic, like I said, and Bibby was tough. On those pick and rolls, he’s (Bibby) one of the best in the league. It’s tough to contain him. He always finds the open man. You’ve got to give a lot of credit to that team. They came out, they were banged up, and they won that victory tonight.”
On playing well at Arco:
“I kind of had my break-out game my first game here and it’s kind of a confidence booster. But, like I said, if we got the victory, I could care less about the numbers. I just want to get that win. We’ve been struggling right now, and we’ve got a lot of work ahead of us.”
Shareef Abdur-Rahim:
“If you don’t compete, you don’t fight. You’re not going to have any kind of chance. We’ve got to keep competing and keep fighting and pulling for each other.”
“We’re learning. We’re continuing to learn. We’ve been playing a lot of young guys and they’ve been learning to play. Nobody’s going to feel sorry for us, we’ve got to keep chipping away.”
On the play of the Blazers’ younger guys:
“It makes me feel good that I spend time with them and talk to them. You feel like some of the work you put in and some of time you put in is paying off.”
“When you keep turning the ball over and the other team keeps wanting to run and make fast breaks, you’re not going to have a chance."

Good to hear Songaila will be ok. Eddie try not to be too modest out there.
