Postgame Quotes-vs. Denver 11/11/05
Kings Coach Rick Adelman
“It was just a real solid win for us…we did a lot of things so much better tonight but there are a lot of things we can do better. We still gave up too many easy opportunities to (Denver) on the boards and even somewhat in transition, but overall it’s definitely a step forward.”
“(Denver) stayed with (Peja) more. They changed personnel on him; they put Andre Miller on him where he just stays with him and doesn’t allow him to come off. When people do that to him he’s got to find a way to still get open. He’s got to find a way to not let people bump him or take him out of the game, but if they’re going to do that to him then we should have advantages other places because one guy is not leaving him. It’s just a process we’re going to have to keep doing…we just have to work on it. It should have been an easy thing to try to get Peja open.”
“We can’t win in this league if we play the way we did in Denver; you just can’t win. You’ve got to respond, you’ve got to be aggressive, and you’ve got to go after it, and you have to understand what the other team is trying to do…what we have not done to this point until tonight is take (what we talk about in our meeting) and put it in the game.”
“We had a two hour film session…our coaches worked their tails off to give them all the input they needed and (the players) have got to take it out on the floor. If you don’t do that, who’s that on? I think watching that film made a huge difference.”
Brad Miller
“Early on we scored some points, and we held Denver to about twenty points in the first quarter which is an improvement. We played some good quarters, and we never let Denver get to close to us. Our intensity is something we discussed yesterday, and we realize it’s something we just have to really step up. We haven’t been getting as many fast-break points, and it’s a lot of the little things we just need to clean up, including our energy. It’s a lot more fun when we’re on the fast break, and I’m finding cutters. It’s a lot easier for everybody and the crowd enjoys it. Not many teams do that in the NBA. We turned it around tonight.”
Bonzi Wells
“Our attitudes changed and we were able to play with a much higher intensity. This is what we see in practice every day – guys going at each other and this is how the outcome is. We played well for four quarters, and we didn’t just play for twenty-four, maybe thirty minutes. Hopefully we can do the same thing on Sunday against New York. It doesn’t matter who we play. We’ve got to go out there and stick to our principles. Our whole motto for today was just protect the paint and work our way out, and hopefully that’ll get our fast break started. We can’t just let guys do whatever they want."
“Any time you play a home game, you’ve got to protect your home court. We gave one away early, and now we’re .500 at home and we’re going to continue to build on that. Hopefully we can get our record back to .500, or a little above before we go on the road again. There is no time for finesse right now. We’ve got to be aggressive and in the paint. Hopefully we can hit our shots, get the ball to Peja and work off him.”

George Karl:
"The game had different personalities. In the first half we didn’t defend, and in the second half we couldn’t hit a shot. When you are inconsistent in your effort and your passing, that is exactly what happens. Right now we are not putting the total package on the floor, from the beginning of the game. We have a lack of confidence in making shots, and we don’t pass the ball with crispness and execution. Defensively we had some good quarters, but we don’t play a whole game. To win this game would have taken an exceptional intensity and toughness. Tonight, we ran into a Sacramento team that had an intensity to win, and we just couldn’t get it done.”
Eduardo Najera:
“We played pretty tough in the first half, but we just didn’t have the energy in the second half. On defense we are playing pretty bad, and we have to try and get it back defensively. They ran the same cuts and they ran the same plays, we just weren’t very aggressive defensively. They played well tonight, and they had a really good night of shooting. It’s just really tough to get a win when you can’t hit any shots on offense and then you get back on defense and the energy level is low."
Marcus Camby:
“I am not going to question my teammates intensity level, I think everyone was out there fighting. We can’t win them all, but to win at this game we are going to have to play a whole lot better each and every night out. They were playing with intensity the whole night, and they were up 15 points basically the whole night, and it is hard to play catch-up with a team that plays that well and can knock down the open shots. Our inability to make baskets and stop them was our downfall tonight. We thought we had the team to come in here and get the win, we are looking to forward to playing them again in the future.”
