Postgame Quotes-vs. San Antonio
SACRAMENTO KINGS
Kings Coach Rick Adelman
“It’s just a terrific win. People talk about how we haven’t done well against the better teams, especially against the last couple. Our guys made their runs and they made plays. …. Overall it was just a terrific win, there was a lot of contribution from a lot of people.”
“Yeah, there are teams you can beat but you’ve got to play the high level and I think we found that out when we had Golden State come here. This team has just been killing people. It was nice to see that Peja (Stojakovic) really had a great game, Brad (Miller) was active, Kevin (Martin) came in and gave us good minutes again. It was a solid win and it’s got to give you confidence when you go on the road now.”
“What we talked about with San Antonio is they have actually been running the ball a lot more than I have seen them run and (Tony) Parker has been playing great. We talked about how they are the number one team defensively, field goal percentage, points given up and everything, so you’ve got to play well offensively because they are so strong on their defensive side that you’ve got to be sure you move the ball. We thought we could score against them and we had way too many turnovers again but this is a very good defensive team and they lock in on you.”
“Bobby (Jackson) went down and Kevin has been playing well in practice and the one thing we keep talking to him about is when you get a chance you’ve got to play and you’ve got to be aggressive.”
Chris Webber
“We played a solid game. Both teams had problems scoring at times, but the effort was there for both sides. We did a good job and we got a win.”
“It’s a long season. It’s good that we won, but it doesn’t make us better than we were three hours ago.”
“We’re very proud of our defense and our effort. Winning those ugly games is good. Obviously 70% of the San Antonio games are ugly because they force you out of your style and they make you play a certain way. So to be able to win ugly games makes you feel really good because that’s the way they try to make you play.”
On Tim Duncan:
“He’s such a great player. He’s going to say he missed some shots he should have made and my effort was definitely there. I don’t want to say things, I just try. We both tried hard, but fortunately we won the night.”
Mike Bibby
“All these games against Western Conference teams are big for us. We’re trying now to place for the playoffs and that was one of the better teams in the league.”
On the Kings defense tonight:
“We helped each other a lot. That was one of our main goal tonight. When we help each other out, it’s going to be hard to be us.”
Kevin Martin
“It was an all around effort. Chris Webber defended Tim Duncan outside the block and made him take jumpers. Then we had good help out on top as well as down on Tim. It was an all-around good effort.”
“It was a knock around the league with people saying we couldn’t beat the major teams. But coming out here and beating a team that has won nine out of the last 10 is good for us.”
“It feels good to be out on the court. I haven’t been out there since preseason. It feels good to just go out there and be solid.”
“They [the fans] pack this place every night. Having fans like that we’ve just got to play for them as well as your team.”
SAN ANTONIO SPURS
Greg Popovich
“It was a good basketball game. Both teams went after each other and played hard and it was a good physical game. I think you find that whenever two good teams, and I’m sure it was the same way when Miami was here (at Arco), when two good teams play they want to beat each other. The competition is always good so it was a great game.”
About Peja
“That’s his job. His job is to shoot it and knock it down. He did a good job tonight that’s for sure.”
What disapointed him tonight
“Shooting. You know if you can hold Sacramento to 86 that’s tough to do, so we did a good job in that regard. Our shooting and the free throw line really betrayed us tonight. We were very poor in both areas.”
About Tim Duncan
“I thought Sacramento crowded him very well and did a good job of bringing guys and hesitating. They made decisions that were very difficult for us.”
Robert Horry
“The key was Stojakovic got hot. He was running off some jumpers and that was when we fought to get right back in it and they ran up that lead. That’s just one of those situations when you com up in here they’re going to run that. You have to be able to withstand their runs. They made that run at the last minute where we couldn’t get back in it. We ran out of time.”
About referees
“That’s the one thing we always get mad about with referees. It’s the consistency. That’s all we ever ask of. They always get mad at us for yelling at them, but if you’re not consistent that’s the only thing that makes us mad.”
Tim Duncan
“They played good defense. Shots went down toward the end there and I think that made the difference in the game.”
“I got enough looks tonight, but I just didn’t play well. I don’t think there’s any other way to put it.”
HMM... interesting to note that DUNCAN didnt mention WEBBER'S good, agressive and tight defense on him tonight.....
and horry should just EAT his words... kings won spurs lost... get over it!!!!
