Portland gets Livingston

HOOPSWORLD has also learned that the Portland Trail Blazers will sign free agent Shaun Livingston to a deal, the team is expected to make an official announcement at 4pm PST.

Livingston is expected to be in town and ready for training camp on Monday.

An official announcement from the Blazers is expected later today.

At this point, even Shavlik Randolph is better than Livingston. He's a unique case of better NBA player than college player arguably, having made an impact at spurts with the Sixers particularly in the hustle/rebounding department. He just needs a chance.

Besides, Livingston is somewhat like Roy--a tall point guard. Rudy Fernandez, arguably, is a tall point guard as well. Why bring in the third one? It wouldn't be a great investment to say the least--I mean, Steve Blake isn't that good, admittedly, but how about seeing what Jerryd Bayless can also do there? Now that NME's report has surfaced, wise decision to not sign Livingston on Portland's part.

And HOOPSWORLD scores another ... oh, wait. They were wrong. Who could have known?

;)

MIAMI -- Shaun Livingston has never seen the gruesome video of himself grabbing a loose ball near midcourt, dribbling three times, going in for a layup attempt and having his left knee shred on the landing.
He doesn't intend to watch it anytime soon, either.
"I'm not focusing on the past. I'm just really looking forward," Livingston said. "No mental image in my mind should really derail me."

More than 19 months after that misstep nearly ended his career, Livingston has a second chance. The free agent point guard signed a two-year contract Friday with the Miami Heat, who believe Livingston -- the No. 4 overall pick in the 2004 draft by the Los Angeles Clippers -- could eventually be a steal.
