Pooh Jeter to training camp..

"Ex-University of Portland point guard Pooh Jeter played well enough for Sacramento that General Manager Geoff Petrie says he will be invited to training camp. The 5-11 Jeter scored 40 points in 80 minutes, shooting 51.7 percent from the field while adding nine assists and nine rebounds. Jeter’s biggest game was a 20-point outburst against Dallas."

He did play well, can't hurt to give him another look.

Justin Williams best get an invite to training camp too. Be quite disappointing to see him get snatched up by another team.

I know he's probably a good kid, has a lot of potential, etc. but I simply cannot get past the mental "pooh" images.

Between Winne the Pooh and Mr. Pooh, I think the potential for ridicule at a previously unheard of level is almost beyond belief. I hope he has a REALLY thick skin. He's gotten this far, which is probably a good sign...

;)

Don't forget Pooh Richardson...

I was thinking of how our counterparts in LA would handle the situaton.

;)

I'm thinking, should he sign, the best defense is a good offense. We need to have a whole plethora of comments, puns, etc. lined up to pre-empt their pitiful attempts at "Queens" humor.

After a particularly nasty dunk, Grant Napear could say "And Pooh flushes another one!!!"

The Kings already have too many point guards/combo guards. Bibby, Douby, Hart, and Price are under contract. Are they going to put Pooh Jeter in the NBDL? What I really want to see is tough and atheletic big men (>6'8") in the camp.

I think surviving a childhood with parents that nicknamed their own child "Pooh" can strengthen a man for anything.

Training camp is for evaluations. An invitation to camp doesn't mean a slot on the team. If they're inviting Pooh, perhaps they think he's better than Hart. I sure don't have a problem with Petrie inviting more guards.

I really don't see why we invited him or for that matter why he accepted the invite? There is just no room for him here. From the one game of Summer League I saw he played well, but I felt Price outplayed him. I don't see how on earth he could get any minutes here unless Bibby, Hart, and Price all go down with injuries.

You invite MORE players than you expect to keep. It happens every single year. Some of you are acting like we just gave him a Peja contract or something. Geez...

Pooh's chances are long at best. But I don't consider ANY of those last three names (Douby, Hart, Price) to be so established or so locked in that if Pooh came into camp and outperformed them all that you say, well that's great kid, but the job is already so and sos. It appears we're basically having an open audition for the backup PG spot. That's not a great sign for us, actually, but it does leave a tiny openign there for a guy like Pooh to sneak in as the #3 or some such.

If these guys do have talent, I hope the Kings keep them for the NBADL.

yeah, if none of the undrafted bigs be had in vegas get an invite, it'll be pretty disappointing.

How many times have you seen Petrie pass on a player to see him become a wild success on another team, about never. This board is hyping the guy just because he is tall and can block the ball. I'll agree, thats exactly what the need, but I'll leave the GM'ing up to Geoff.

I wasn't intending that he'll pass on williams, it's just a possibility that I thought about. Amundson and Jeter have gotten spots but Williams hasn't yet. So I was just wondering about Justin Williams and how his play was very good like Amundson's.

The board is hyping him because of what people have seen and read about him (including me). Can do more than block the ball. He's very active and his game should translate over to the NBA. I think it will.

Uh...have no idea where you got that from -- unless you're restricting it to summer league, where I'd have to take a look at our rosters from past years. Happens all the time in the draft and free agency.

If Geoff eats beans and then heads to the bathroom, you do NOT want to be the next person in -- same as if it was anyone else.

A 5-11 point guard to come in for 6-1 Bibby or 6-3 Douby or 6-3 Price? stranger things have happened but........... As VF21 said you always invite more to training camp than possibly have a chance. Usually its 17-19 players with a couple getting cut after the first week. So we shall see... :P

i think that was the implication....poser.

oh crap, i love pooh.... pooh is the best #2 option that we have....

I think that is hard to say. If this guy had what it takes he'd already be there. I would like to see him develop as well but realistically he's got a lot to learn. If anything it would be good to have him compete with Amundson to see which one rises up.

A lot of good guys go undrafted. But yah, some go for a reason than come back to bite all the GMs in the butt that didn't draft him.

I really do have that feeling that we are going to get the gem of the undraftees this year.

And when you only have 1 pick in the draft, that's all you can really hope for....

No seriously, Justin Williams NEEDS to make this team. Just from watching two games in SL I know this. He was stuffing 7 footers like turkeys!

He looked awesome.
