Player/team workout information (title changed)

who the team is going to work out? IIRC we usually find a list of the Kings draft workouts but I can't find anything and the team has been allowed to schedule work outs for a couple days now?

Draftexpress has been mostly on top of it -- we were part of that big workout that Houston hosted in Orlando with these guys:

Guards: Bobby Brown, Dominic James, Jeremy Hunt, Brandon Heath

Wings: Morris Almond, Brad Newley, Reyshawn Terry, Jared Dudley

Bigs: Devon Hardin, Aaron Gray, Nick Fazekas, Jason Smith

Also from that article:

Sacramento's super small forward workout that fizzled...also conducted in Orlando. Originally scheduled to attend were Corey Brewer, Al Thornton, Jeff Green and Julian Wright..except the later two reportedly canceled, which gave Ron Lewis and Sun Yue a chance to attend instead.

Wow, actually, Draftexpress has a whole site dedicated to tracking workouts: http://draftexpress.com/workout.php

So going off of that list, we've worked out/will work out:

Ron Lewis
Corey Brewer
Al Thornton
Sun Yue
Spencer Hawes
DeVon Hardin
Morris Almon
Bobby Brown
Dominic James
Jeremy Hunt
Brandon Heath
Brad Newley
Reyshawn Terry
Jared Dudly
Aaron Gray
Nick Fazekas
Jason Smith

also Petrie's shown interest in Green and Wright I guess. Hmmm... I want to know when we'll work out guys like Noah and Conley though.

edit: also the multi team/multi player work out you mentioned. I'll add that...

Seems like Petrie might want to add a late 1st if he took time to work out those guys...

Plus all those guys in the multiple-team workout.

But don't forget, Petrie also doesn't like to draft guys he hasn't worked out.

Al Thorton has a 7'1 wingspan and a 41 inch vert. he is only 6'7 in shoes though. Actually sounds like Petries type of guy he is the magic height.

And I think thats the key here. Jeff Green and Julian Wright canelled workouts with the Kings and unless they re-schedule those, you can pretty much write them off as our picks, which is a good thing IMHO. Jeff Green is a jack of all trades but master of none and as such would be a role player at the next level and Julian Wright has Darius Miles written all over him.

On the other hand, it could be a negative because even if there is a slider (Yi or B. Wright) etc, that we haven't worked out, he won't pick them either.

Petrie was quoted in Bee recently that he drafted someone that he didn't invite to a workout only once and he will never do it again. That player was Gerald Wallace.

I reckon Yi could be slider but unless we see him work out, I don't think we will pick him even if he is available at 10. I read one of the articles somewhere on the net that said the Chinese government is allowing Yi to only work out for Chicago and Golden State.

I like the fact that we have worked out Horford and Brewer. Might suggest us moving up in the draft.

We worked out Horford? When?

BTW about the Wright/Green thing-there could be legit reasons they cancelled IMO, I don't really think that means a whole lot.

So in looking at the list of guys we've worked out i see no bigs expected to go early. Looks like a long list of small forwards or at the best 6'7" - 6'8" power forwards.... after Petrie said he wouldnt draft a guy he didn't work out its looking more and more like Geoff is pursuing his long standing quest to monopolize the league supply of "versatile" players. Soon we'll be able to field a lineup full of skilled undersized powerforwards, centers who dont go into the post or rebound, and the ever elusive shoot first point guard.

No Horford, Noah, Yi, Conley, or the big from Brazil...I'm not sure what would be worse being on the board no possible franchise guys left, or being on the board with one having slipped to us and Geoff not draftin ghim because he didn't work him out in person ><

I mentioend this in another thread, but if Yi or Brandon Wright, through some sort of bleeping miracle, slid down within our reach, and Geoff did NOT pick them because of some idiotic absolute rule which compelled him to pick a 6'8" SF, we are going to have to be searching for a new GM the next day.

You want to play that game with the #28 pick and bundles of questionable talents, 9/10 of whom are going to be busts, fine. But it doesn't play if a high lottery pick comes sliding our way. We already maybe screwed up the Marcus Williams thing, and that was a borderline case. Screwing up a major PF prospect...somebody in Kings offices should deliver a major beatdown.

P.S. I find it ironic that Geoff complains about the Wallace pick, when in hindsight and taking into account draft position it might be turning out to be the single best pick he has made in his entire career. Maybe he should quit working out people altogether.

Looks like Jason Smith impressed the Kings enough at Houston's big workout that they're going to have him in to work out:

• As we reported last week, the Rockets put together a joint workout with around 10 other teams (including the Celtics, Timberwolves, Mavericks, Kings and Pacers) in Orlando on Tuesday and Wednesday. Nearly two dozen prospects worked out.

With so many eyeballs, the consensus on almost every player was up for grabs.

Here were a few consistent comments that stood out:

Nevada's Nick Fazekas may not be very athletic, but he looked good in his workout next to Pittsburgh center Aaron Gray and Colorado State forward Jason Smith. Gray may be the only guy in the draft that can make Fazekas look athletic, while Smith struggled to guard him in the paint.

Everyone was wowed by Smith's athleticism, but he struggled shooting the ball, which kept him from bowling teams over. One team, the Kings, took enough interest that they asked him to come in and work out as a candidate to be the No. 10 pick.

The reviews coming out of Smith's workouts in Philadelphia and Washington were much stronger. That shows what a good (or bad) shooting day will do to your stock this time of year.

Here's another tidbit:

• The Kings and Celtics worked out Corey Brewer and Al Thornton on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively.

The word out of Sacramento's camp was the workout didn't really help either guy. Brewer struggled to shoot the ball and Thornton wasn't in great shape.

Even if Wallace turns out to be Petrie's single best pick, he might still be Petrie's single biggest mistake. Now, normally you can't fault a guy for letting a superstar slip - especially if every other GM did as well - but when you have a promise out to take Gilbert Arenas with your late first and instead break your own rule to draft Gerald Wallace...oops.

I think its definitely between Renaldas Seibutas and Tyvin Colvile at the #10.

They've probably got as good chances of going at #10 as Corey Brewer or Aaron Gray. :p

Actually, though, Covile was supposed to have been pretty good, as were Bobby Brown and Jermareo Davidson, I guess the guys who compile mock draft lists may not know everything. Jason Smith was supposed to have been really nervous and hyper, and as a result got pretty much pwned by both Fazekas and Aaron Gray. Understandable how someone could get nervous under those circumstances, but still, doesn't bode well for his draft position.

Smoke screen. What could they do to help themselves? They're already in the conversation as Top 5-10 guys. Conversely, the Celtics, who are looking to trade down, are raving about the workout in order to scare teams behind them who are enamored of these guys. Petrie doesn't want to alarm anybody and get leapfrogged.

i think Petrie might try to draft Hawes if he makes it to us and Jason Smith with a lower first round pick. everyone is talking about the kings thinking about using the 10th on Smith because we worked him out and liked him. but i think we get back into the first round and grab him later.

if we walked away from this draft with both Hawes and Smith i would be pleased. or Smith and Noah or any combo of C, PF you could think of. Splitter might be an option if we cant get high enough to grab smith. the clippers first would be high enough for smith. if they were still interested in Artest

We're supposed to be working out Aaron Gray today, atleast according to draftexpress. I want to hear something about that but I'm not sure how it'll work considering Brooks' interview is supposed to be today in Vegas I think and where will Petrie be?

Gray, who averaged 13.9 points and 9.5 rebounds his senior year, will work out in Las Vegas the next few days. Private workouts for the Sacramento Kings, Utah Jazz, San Antonio Spurs, Washington Wizards, New York Knicks and New Jersey Nets, among others, will follow.

And from what another paper reported, he may have already worked out in Sac:
His tour of America continues. Next stop: Sacramento on Monday.
http://www.mcall.com/sports/basketb...,0,2336414.story?coll=all-sportsmorehoops-hed

So it seems quite definite that we are working him out, at least twice. As to WHY, I really couldn't tell you. Miami's pick? Trading down? Who knows...
