Pistons Offer Wallace 4-year, $48 Million Deal

Michigan Live - The Detroit Pistons started their free agent negotiating period by offering Ben Wallace a 4 year, $48 million dollar contract, according to Michigan Live.

The deal, if Wallace accepts, would make him the highest-paid player in Pistons history.

Don't know if this is true or not. But i think Ben will get a higher offer elsewhere if it is.

I'd say it's still WAY to early to tell who will pick up Ben. to my thinking he is the BEST FA on the market andas such will no doubt field offers then make a decision. Detroit will have to decide late about matching offers., but the 48 mill was a nice start.

True, he is the best. But he's also, I think, 34 years old. He will be way overpaid in about 2 years.

Too low if they want to keep him. Somebody will beat that. I would have at least made it $50mil just for appearances sake. Not that he's necessarily going to be worht that in a couple of years. Just that unless you're truly willing to concede that the golden era of De-troit Basketball is over with, you have to get him back.

Anything over a 4 year deal and Wallace falls into the over 36 club and that has ramifications on his contract. 4 years will probably be all he gets and I think he stays with the Pistons.

I do too. It would be great for the Kings, especially if they sign him outright and not in a S&T. If Chicago signs Wallace that's one less place for Bonzi to get big money, and Chandler becomes expendible.

I hadn't thought of that!

This would be great. If Chicago gets Wallace, Chandler becomes kinda useless..but then who would we trade for him? They wouldn't need Miller anymore..

KT possibly, would be good off the bench if he ever accepts it. Maybe KT, Hart, and Pot for Tyson + Duhon. Would solve our backup PG problem and it goes a long way to getting defense in the paint.

Hornets Get- Chandler and Allen

Detroit Gets- PJ Brown and possibly JR Smith

Chicago Gets- Ben Wallace (Sign and Trade)

Yeah that has been going around a bit. The people who "broke the story" have been spot on so far with Pedja and Bobby signings and drafting of Armstrong and Simmons.

Damn, Chicago is going to be really good if they sign Ben Wallace, but that means Chandler could be the odd man out, if the Hornets get Chandler it makes them even better. Not to mention it pisses me off since I want Chandler in a Sac uniform.

I don't know the poker trick, but I do know when I was selling my house the realtor said price it at x39,000 vs x40,000 because they see that second digit more than anything that follows.

So imagine they're willing to pay him 50-something, but someone comes in with an offer at 52 million. It may not be much compared to whatever the Pistons' best offer will be but psychologically it looks a lot bigger that 48. And as it stands the difference between 48 and 50 over 4 years is peanuts in NBA salary terms.

That's pretty much how all sign and trades work though. There are some occasions where it works out for both teams but usually it is just a matter of the team losing their free agent getting a little bit of compensation. Its a pretty good system and sure beats having a player walk for nothing.

Would just like to point out again that we really should be looking to nudge our way into that deal in place of the Hornets. Take Chandler, send Detroit some stuff.

1) Detroit wanted Bonzi -- be a way for them to get him at more than the MLE.

Of course as I have no interest in givng away Bonzi unless necessary, have to wonder if Detroit might not be more amenable to the pieces we have to offer than New Orleans. For these limited purposes, Cisco might well trump JR as a Detroit type guy (not that I am really eager to dump him either, but something has to give at that position). Miller? Not the defender they've always had, but younger? SAR? KT? Corliss (an old friend with an ender)?

That's the one combo of all the players Brick mentioned I'd hate to give up the most. Better to keep Reef as 6th man than Kenny. But if we got a quality second player back as well I'd still consider it.
