Is it going to be online?

I have no idea what they put online or when. They just said he'll be on about 15 minutes from now....

I will not be able to type out a transcript as I am working late on a project I'm trying to finish up at work. Sorry.

Per GP - "at this point in his career we have no interest in Larry Brown".

Met with Maloofs (and George and Phil) yesterday to go over a list. Cross section of coaches (experience and background) to be considered.

"Ideally" like to have coach in place by draft - but will take the time to find the "right person".

Some level of experience (coaching or playing), been in the NBA, energy, appraisal of our team and what they would do (changes and style) are things to consider.

Roster, style, work environment, media relations all topics to be covered.

Doesn't think input from players is important, at least at first. Team needs to know solidarity is there between coach and ownership and management.

Maloofs not necessarily more "hands-on" than previously (not a fair assessment of them) - he wants them involved with decisions and the team. They have always been in agreement with decisions so far. There may be some degrees of reservation, but they have never been obstructionistic and find a way to make the decisions they want to come about.

Way of doing things has been the same from "day 1" just appears that they have been more involved recently, not necessarily true.

He's praising their dedication and support for their team over the years.

Bonzi - the new coach will probably have at least some input into keeping him. He's an important player for them, but can't talk about it until free-agency starts July 1st. Had a phenominal playoff. Unfortunately was hurt and took a little time to get back into shape because of the injury.

Team has changed (Artest) and impact of his play and personality and Bonzi and Shareef return - team had fun playing again and had "purpose" - it's all positive. Still need to get better individually and as a team. He told team after last game against SA that coming back next year every player needed to do an honest self-appraisal to improve individually and as a team.

Style of play - not necessarily changed as much consciously as much as using the tools you have to the best of their ability (offense vs. defense). Some was anticipated based on Bonzi and Shareef, but some evolves based on how the team comes together.

Needs to get more shooting (some to come from continued development of KM and FG) - need complementary strengths and assets (both post-up and shooters).

Need to be good at both ends of the floor.

He's going to miss "coachie" but it's only time and distance, not the spirit of the relationship.

Sweet, at least I won't have to listen to any more of that Larry Brown talk. Sorry Voison..

Sorry it's a bit choppy, but I was just trying to catch the basics as slowly as I type. :)

Ask if you have any questions. I decided I can stay a little later and listen to the interview with my full attention.

I wish they would've asked if he'll go after KG.

I'm pretty sure that, if he's available, we will, as all teams will, at least look into it.

That said I don't like him at all as a person but he wasn't an MVP for nothing.

Listening to Geoff Petrie, I got the impression that Bonzi is probably not returning. Petrie did not use any of the buzz words/phrases usually used in regards to a free agent. I know that's what I want to hear, but I thought he was abnormally tepid on the issue. I don't care what the Maloofs said earlier. According to them we were never going to trade JWill, Webber, or Peja either.

If the Maloofs decide that we won't resign Bonzi it will be confirmed that they do not know what they are doing or care that they are making bonehead moves.

I disagree vehemently. I think it will prove that they are becoming better fiscal stewards and are committed to developing the team through shrewd drafting and responsible free agent signings (SAR and the like).

Might have little to do with the Maloofs or everything. The MALOOFS would like to sign him. But Geoff, well, he's become terminally adverse to players with a pulse and might rather go shopping at Bland Softies R' Us once more. Why hire a tough competitior when there are Eric Piatowksi's and Maurice Taylor's out there to be had? The coach could be the tipper. And of course the tipper for Bonzi as well -- Rick let Bonzi be Bonzi and he responded. If we go off and hire a Captain Bly type, he might decide screw this and head elsewhere.

Bonzi would be a responsible free agent signing too.

And one more time for those who have forgotten...

We seek to win a title. Against the current title holders here were the numbers:

Wells ($8.0 mil): 23.2pts (.609 FG% .625 3pt% .651 FT%) 12.0rebs 1.3ast 0.8stl 0.3blk 3.3TO

Reef ($5.0mil): 9.2pts (.535 FG% .000 3pt% .600 FT%) 4.8rebs 1.2ast 0.3stl 0.0blk 2.2TO

Now which player, perchance, was the better bargain at the absolute time when it mattered -- indeed, if title is the goal, the ONLY time it mattered?

If you mean alleged as straight from the horse's mouth, sure.

The same horse's mouth who said Williams wouldn't be traded cause their Mom loved him? That they wouldn't trade Webber? That were looking to max out Peja this summer if they had to?

Yes, allegedly.

Bonzi had a helluva series and he's a good player. But he'll be thirty soon, his play is going to start declining eventually, he did miss 30games this year, and he's gonna command probably 8-10 Mil for 4-5 years. Should we base the next five years of Bonzi's play on 4 great games in the playoff series or the rest of his 8+ year career. He's definitley not going to get any better, his play at best, will remain similar to how it is now.

Plus, we have some young talent at SG in Martin and Garcia and keeping Bonzi will stunt their growth. Let's sell high on Bonzi and deal for a need (a big man). Let someone else overpay him by using him in a sign and trade. Maybe we could handcuff him to one of our unwanted big men (Miller or Thomas) and brink back a beast of a center...in IMHO we should try and do that.

That's a pretty good bargain for last year, yeah. I don't think it's going to be such a bargain for the next 6 years. The Spurs are going to be eliminated in the second round this year, so great playoff for Bonzi, but this Spurs team is clearly not as good as past teams. We still lost, handily. I just don't think this team is in a position to possibly mortgage the future by extending large, long deals to perennial malcontents like Bonzi. He was great here, he really was. And I would love to keep him at a good price. I don't think his asking price will be reasonable though and I am prepared for that.

Whatever though, dude. I guess we'll see who's right sometime after 1 July. And I could do without the smarmy nonsense bolded above. I think everyone realizes the goal of every NBA team is to win a title.

Yes, allegedly.

I notice you're really focused on those points in time. Here's the problem. Those aren't frozen moments etched in stone.

The comments were made in response to questions. At the time they were made, they probably believed them. BUT - and here's the really, really, really, really, really important part - TIMES CHANGE.

Jason simply proved to be too erratic. As exciting as he was, the Kings needed more stability and maturity at the point. So, Williams left for Bibby.

The comment about not trading Webber was pre-collapse in Dallas. After that, it was an entirely different picture. I didn't like the trade but I do understand why they did it. The whole situation had changed and they changed the team in response.

The comment about Peja was made BEFORE it became painfully apparent to anyone with a pulse that he simply wasn't working out without the help of guys like Vlade, Christie and Webber. Again, the team changed and a comment made about Peja was no longer valid in the new scenario.

The NBA is a fluid business. Things change. The biggest mistake fans can make is to take a comment made in the past and try and apply it to the present or the future. These guys are really under no obligation to even answer those types of questions OR to be totally honest about what they really think or feel or plan. It's THEIR business.

Would you go up to Bill Gates and try and get him to promise he'll always have a certain piece of software included in Windows?

We as fans want answers to questions. That's normal. But the Maloofs and Petrie and the rest of their ilk aren't about to give anyway trade secrets or plans for their business before their time.

In our "hurry up world" we seem to forget that not every crime can be solved in 42 minutes. Not every sad story has a happy ending. Not every nice guy stays on the island.

The Maloofs and Petrie will conduct their search for a coach. If they've already decided on one, they have a good reason for not yet announcing it. If they haven't, they'll proceed at their timetable, not ours.

We're pretty much just along for the ride, totally subject to their schedule. We can theorize all we like, but they're not going to reveal company secrets ahead of time just to satisfy our curiosity.

Hey if they can come up with a Williams for Bibby type of upgrade then sure, fine by me. But I don't see one on the horizon. And if players decline past the age of 30 why are so many championship teams comprised of players right around that age?

And San Antonio not as good as previous years??!! I think their record this years says otherwise. In fact, look at their roster, easily the best Spurs team top to bottom. Literally no weaknesses. On the contrary, I think other teams have simply gotten better, i.e. the Mavs and Kings.

I think this reinforces my point, but I'm not sure. They said they had already contacted Bonzi's agent during the playoff series. I am counting on them reflecting, changing their opinion, and coming over to my point of view just like they have twice before with the Williams-Bibby trade and the Peja-Artest trade. I didn't want Webber to leave though. So, yeah. . .

I do believe the Maloofs and Petrie want to resign Bonzi. The maloofs have said on the radio they are interested. They spoke to his agent at one of the games towards the end of the season, and Geoff said he is a very important player for what they are doing right now. But, it will depend a little on the new coaches input.

I think any guy that come's in would love to have a guy like Bonzi playing with his grit. Bonzi has also publicly said he wants to be here and the ball is in the Maloofs court. It will come down to money. If Bonzi is willing to be reasonable so he can stay here, then I'm pretty confident that he will be re-signed.

I agree, Doc.

For the moment, at least, Bonzi is EXACTLY the type of player the Maloofs want under contract. Passion, excitement, ability, fan allure, etc. It's pretty much a no-brainer from their point of view. And that's pretty much been their m.o. NOT signing him would be the head-scratcher, because it would clearly go against the grain for them.

Yeah and the "horse's mouth" also said that they would give Pedja the max.

There is no question we should re-sign Bonzi but everything that comes out of Maloof's mouth these days, I take with a pinch of salt.

I will believe it when I see it.
