The same horse's mouth who said Williams wouldn't be traded cause their Mom loved him? That they wouldn't trade Webber? That were looking to max out Peja this summer if they had to?
Yes, allegedly.
I notice you're really focused on those points in time. Here's the problem. Those aren't frozen moments etched in stone.
The comments were made in response to questions. At the time they were made, they probably believed them. BUT - and here's the really, really, really, really, really important part - TIMES CHANGE.
Jason simply proved to be too erratic. As exciting as he was, the Kings needed more stability and maturity at the point. So, Williams left for Bibby.
The comment about not trading Webber was pre-collapse in Dallas. After that, it was an entirely different picture. I didn't like the trade but I do understand why they did it. The whole situation had changed and they changed the team in response.
The comment about Peja was made BEFORE it became painfully apparent to anyone with a pulse that he simply wasn't working out without the help of guys like Vlade, Christie and Webber. Again, the team changed and a comment made about Peja was no longer valid in the new scenario.
The NBA is a fluid business. Things change. The biggest mistake fans can make is to take a comment made in the past and try and apply it to the present or the future. These guys are really under no obligation to even answer those types of questions OR to be totally honest about what they really think or feel or plan. It's THEIR business.
Would you go up to Bill Gates and try and get him to promise he'll always have a certain piece of software included in Windows?
We as fans want answers to questions. That's normal. But the Maloofs and Petrie and the rest of their ilk aren't about to give anyway trade secrets or plans for their business before their time.
In our "hurry up world" we seem to forget that not every crime can be solved in 42 minutes. Not every sad story has a happy ending. Not every nice guy stays on the island.
The Maloofs and Petrie will conduct their search for a coach. If they've already decided on one, they have a good reason for not yet announcing it. If they haven't, they'll proceed at their timetable, not ours.
We're pretty much just along for the ride, totally subject to their schedule. We can theorize all we like, but they're not going to reveal company secrets ahead of time just to satisfy our curiosity.
