Petrie-Bobby J. to hold press conference on Friday

The Kings have announced that they will hold a "press conference involving an announcement regarding Bobby Jackson"... Bobby Jackson and Geoff Petrie will be at the conference to be held Friday 6:20 p.m. at Arco (before the Kings-Jazz preseason game).

Hrmmmmmm...

Any bets on what it is? I think there are a couple of logical options:

1. He's being signed short-term either as a player/coach or so he can retire as a Sacramento King.
2. He's joining the coaching ranks.
3. Some combination of the first two.

Any other ideas?

OOooooh intrigue.

I'd love it if Bobby retires a King and remains with the Org. in some fashion.

Wow, very interesting.

I honestly don't believe that Bobby will be back as a player this year. I could be wrong, but I don't think the front office will feel the need for another guard when they will want Evans and presumably Rodriguez to get minutes with Kevin and Beno also (obviously) in the mix.

That suggests to me that Bobby is joining the coaching staff or the front office. Which is fine and dandy by me.

Other possibilities are slim, unless Bobby is being appointed Executive Vice President of Getting An Arena Deal Done, Already. :D

Well I know Bobby J loves living in Sacramento and wants to stay involved in basketball. I do know he is a member of the committee to sell out the first two games.

My guess is coach or maybe a job in the front office where he represents the Kings in community outreach/charitable activities. He'd be great for that. I think he's interested in coaching, though.

I'm just glad the Kings apparently want to give Bobby a place in the organization. :)

The only thing I'm really pretty sure about is that he has to be staying with the Kings in some role. If he weren't, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be calling a press conference at Arco...

"Great! Now that everyone has shown up to the conference we can tell you whats up! Were trading Bobby Jackson for Jerome James and his 12 million dollar contract!"

lol

Yeah, I'm pretty sure this is a good thing for Jackson and the Kings.

"Great! Now that everyone has shown up to the conference please buy some tickets to our upcoming home games. The Box Office is right around the corner."

There, I fixed it for you. ;) That is one way to get folks within 100 feet of the box office during preseason, right?

This leaked early:

I love Bobby J. I was a counselor at his basketball camp during his first stint with the team. He rocks.

Based on Bobby's chemistry with the team last year, I hope he's being recruited as drill sergeant. His honesty, and unwillingness to apologize for slacking off (esp. on defense) was a real breath of fresh air in that abysmal cluster.... of a season.

If they made shareef an assisstant, they should definately do the same for bobby. He would be great in helping the development of Tyreke.

Bobby Jackson to retire, work with Kings
Bobby Jackson, the former Kings guard and longtime fan favorite, will be announcing his retirement at an Arco Arena press conference tomorrow.
As mentioned in Twitterland a while ago, Jackson will assume a role within the Kings organization as well. For now, click on the Twitter link for a few more details but be sure to check back later today for more on this post. - Sam Amick

in other words could not find a winning team who wanted him

kind of surprising really, but it has to end at some point for everybody

When you consider that Tyronn Lue, Jannero Pargo, Anthony Carter and Anthony Johnson are all playing for contenders (or did last season), it is sort of surprising. Pargo is the youngest at 29, but the others are all within four years of Bobby.

Yeah, I'm surprised, too. I thought some team might decide to pick him up during the season, due to injuries or becaseu he might help a competing team. This announcement would put him out of consideration, especially if he accepts a job with the Kings.

I thought Fat Lever was now Director of Player Development?

It's no secret that Bobby Jackson has been one of my absolute favorite Kings. That he is retiring a King and staying on in some capacity thrills me.

From Amick's blog, it sounds like he'll be a general FO sidekick, and doing his best to learn various aspects of the GM job. The possible answers to "what'll we do after Geoff retires/leaves" just got a little more interesting.

Interesting...I thought Webb was kind of doing the same thing for Geoff too.
