Well, at least he didn’t use the phrase “run it back”.dude has said more in this one presser than Monte probably said in his entire 5 year stint as GM lol
That’s not what he said at all
Ok, I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet, but "It's my job now to help put pieces around him and others to enhance his ability to start winning" kind of sounds like that is the plan?
This isn't necessarily an "either/or" situation. There is a third alternative. At least short term, Perry may want to have DC as coach. What if he wants to take a year to make a bunch of roster moves and isn't keen on trying to tap an outside coach as he does?
DC has a winning record as coach. Other than Rick and Mike, he is the only coach the Sacramento Kings have had that is over 0.500. 40 years of coaches and only 3 with a winning record.
Maybe, just maybe, he's OK giving DC another year to see what he can do with an actual training camp and significant practice time and (hopefully) a more balanced roster that fits what DC wants to do (which seems to mirror Perry)?
Edit: Mike Brown with the Kings was 0.549 (2.5 years - regular season). DC was 0.529 (regular season).
There's all kind of things that Perry may want to do. He could run it back. He could see how it goes with Christie for a half of a season until he fires him or not. He could do all kind of things.
Any other dude who was a one year assistant who became an interim coach for half a season with a 0.529 record on another team and Perry hired him as HC and this board would be apoplectic. It would collapse from the traffic. They would need another server. The stadium would close in perpetuity because of vandalism. There would be a mass boycott of the team, and it would be like the Doncic trade with Perry in fear for his life. The ONLY reason that Christie is given even a whiff of consideration is that he was a starter on the Kings during its heyday and he's good ol' Doug. That's it. Is that a good reason to hire Christie as HC? Hell no.
It's true.....and the same reason that Vlade Divac was given consideration and hired as GM
Not sure why anyone would think he’d take this job just to be a mouthpiece anyhow. Doesn’t seem like his style
It's an exercise in learning. Can Vivek learn from his mistakes? Or not? If the latter, then he's truly pathological.
He's getting paid a lot of money....and if there wasn't a GM spot available to him elsewhere, this could be his last big payday.
Pretty basic stuff, that money talks for most people within reason
Maybe we should have made DC GM.lol Perry’s desire for the Kings identity is a carbon copy of Doug’s
Kings' fans aren't going to be the only one watching this coaching hire. If you're another GM and they keep Christie the first thought going through your mind is that it's the same ol' same ol' with Vivek running the show. They will continually run around Perry to Vivek to get what they want in a trade. It's not what I would want as the new GM.
He's knows it's not ideal, which is likely why he left the Kings for New York in the first place.

I get better vibes from Perry than I ever got from Monte. To be a successful GM, you need to be excellent at personal relations — and that’s where Perry truly excels. With Monte, I always felt he was great on the analytics side but lacked that key skill. We’ll see how everything plays out.
“We need to add more length and athleticism to this group” -Scott Perry/SacTownDog
I'll be the first to ask the question.
Is sactowndog, scott perry??
I'm not so sure on all the "vibes" part, but Monte was basically known as a super nerd among NBA circles. Talked at SLOAN analytics conference all the time, was known to be one of the more analytic heavy GM's in basketball.
But I think I agree on the communication aspect. Possibly the biggest hurdle a GM has to overcome is getting the owner to listen to him and actually give him full control of the squad. Monte could be the smartest guy in the room (and probably was), but if he lost Vivek, then nothing he could come up with matters.
If Perry gets Vivek to stay in his lane and stay out of the way, he'll be an upgrade on Monte. Then you can actually evaluate his basketball decision making without having to worry about interference from ownership.
I've already said enough about this but if its true, this is a player's league, and so some respect has to be put on that unless you plan on shipping those players.
Ham said Dave Joerger’s name has been brought up some lately in Sac. Wasn’t sure if it was as a potential head coach or assistant
Dave was getting divorced and was angry at the world last time. He might be a different person now.
