Pending FA signings, etc.

The three team deal for Paul has been rekindled. People are speculating that the Lakers will take on Okafor this time, then the Lakers will flip Okafor for a true PF.

Wait, what? So the league doesn't approve the deal because Lakers are getting Paul so they give MORE to the Lakers????

Well, that's just speculation at this point, they may be throwing in some picks or something instead, or take on Ariza. If they are taking on Okafor, Gilbert's complaint that the Lakers are taking on too little salary doesn't hold water anymore. Also, I think taking on Okafor hurts their chances at getting Howard, and that's really what people were afraid of.

I think it's pretty funny how the league decides what is sufficient, and what isn't, as they go along. This should all have been in writing beforehand, so Demps knew exactly what restraints he was working with.

It seems by Demps comments, the NBA/Hornets are doing some serious damage control. Maybe they got spooked by the union's threats of litigation.

Carter rumored to go to Mavericks, Jamal Crawford hopefully going back to Chicago.

On another note, I really don't think I like this trade exception rule. Instead of signing with the Knicks, the Mavericks are doing a sign and trade with Chandler now, so they'll have a sizeable trade exception to use. I guarantee they will acquire somebody that is much better than Tyson Chandler by using that trade exception, that they shouldn't even have in the first place

I have a question: Why do the Kings want JJ Barea? We just resigned Marcus Thornton, we drafted Jimmer Fredette, we have Tyreke Evans, and we traded Beno Udrih to make sure we had room for those three. How does Barea fit?

That 20+ minute interview with Howard last night was pretty painful to watch.

My guess at this point is that Howard ends up in NJ to play with Williams. If that happens, it's a huge win for Prokhorov, because it basically guarantees that he'll be able to re-sign Williams at the end of the year.

I think that Brook Lopez is a better young prospect than Bynum. Bynum is just way too injury prone for me to want to consider him a major re-building piece. Lopez will give you 20 a night in the post on a good percentage, though he does need to become a better rebounder.

I disagree about Lopez. I think he ceases to put up those same stats on a contending team. Neither Bynum nor Lopez are really all that great of gets for Orlando. Really sucks for them, but they kind of made their bed here.

Gasol possibly headed to Houston. Marc this time, not Pau! Good news for us if it happens

Can Memphis afford to let Marc Gasol go?

I'd love for Marc to end up in Houston.

I think for the Kings, that would be the perfect scenario, as I think it would leave the Kings with better talent than both of them, and also really give them a fantastic chance to get Dalembert for a decent contact, if the Kings FO is still looking into it.

Fortunately for us, David West has signed a 2-year/20 mil deal with the Pacers.
That means that he's out of the running, and hopefully increases the possibilities that we might be able to land Dalembert.

Looks as if Golden State is about to make a big move.

They've just amnestied Charlie Bell. (He's owned 4 million, but only for this year, as he's an expiring.)

There is no way they do this unless they are looking to immediately clear that 4mil from their cap to make a major move.

Also, of interest, no-one picked up Arenas from the amnesty waiver, so he's a FA now. Wonder where he'll end up.

Made an offer to Deandre Jordan. 4 years, $43 million.

This seems to be for a bid for CP3.

If they get Jordan, they might then offer up Curry for Chris Paul, with the hopes that he'd be willing to sign with him.

Personally, I'd rather GS land Jordan and CP3, then the Clippers ending up with Jordan & CP3 to go along with Griffin.

My guess is that the Clippers will match this deal, then look to get CP3 to pair up with Griffin and Jordan. They'll probably have to unload Kaman in the process.

I'm guessing the deal would look something like EG+Minny's first round pick for CP3, which I don't see any other team being able to match. GS might be able to do something with Curry and Udoh, but I think EG+ a top 5 pick is better.

CP3 has come out and said if he can't land with the Lakers or Knicks, then he's fine with the Clippers and being able to play next to Griffin.
It looks as if the Clippers are saying they are willing to include either Min's 1st Rnd pick, or EG if CP3 will opt-in to the last year of his contract, which would guarantee that they have at least 2 years with CP3, which they think will be enough to convince him to re-sign to a long-term deal.

Looks as if the Hornets are asking for: Kaman (as big expiring), Aminue + Bledsoe (for young talent), Gordan (up-and-coming impact player), + 2 picks.
I doubt they get all that, but they'll at least get Kaman and either Min's 1st Rnd Pick/Gordan, plus some other pieces.

I'm now going to be surprised if CP3 isn't a Clipper in the next few days.

I'm sure the Clips will match the Warriors offer, and I agree that its starting to look like Paul is going to end up a Clipper. How good the Clips will be depends on how much they have to give up. But anyway you cut it, Jordan, Griffin and Paul make a pretty good threesome.

Memphis has already resonded to Houston saying they'll match their offer. So it looks like Gasol will stay home..

There's absolutely no way the NBA, or the Hornets GM, allows CP3 to be traded without getting Gordon back. I think it would also have to have the Minnesota pick for the NBA to approve because it gives the Hornets a good young player+ a draft pick.

Not sure how the salaries match up, but my guess is Eric Gordon, Chris Kaman and Al-Farouq Aminu/Eric Bledsoe for Paul

Looking like its Kaman, Aminu and Bledsoe with the Minny Pick for CP3. (according to LA Times)

Is that really better than Martin/Scola/Odom/Dragic/Houston pick? I know that the original trade had a lot more salary coming back to the Hornets, but one year of Kaman and two second-year players that haven't shown anything and a good pick for CP3? That's so lowball. Without Eric Gordon in the deal, I don't know if I'd sign off on that. I mean, it sounds like GS is willing to send Curry, and that's a better deal already than the Clippers deal if Gordon's not in it.

According to RealGM as of right now, the submitted deal is my original guess (with Aminu) plus Minny's pick, and the NBA wants Bledsoe in addition to that. On my phone, so can't link to it right now

Kwame Brown has agreed to a one-year, $7 million deal with Golden State, according to his agent, Mark Bartelstein.

Kwame Brown's inability to catch isn't a problem when Monta Ellis doesn't pass.

Seems excessive, doesn't it?

Yep, that's sheer stupidity. It's only a one year deal so won't kill them, but Brown is truly awful. How he's managed to make so much money in his career is a mystery.

Well, they had to spend to reach the floor, they can use him as trade bait for the deadline and he's not completely without use for them. Still, one lucky guy, getting a huge contract through these circumstances.

In other "news": Mavs sign Delonte West and Vince Carter, dump off Rudy and Corey Brewer to Denver, who now seem at least a little less screwed than before.
