Abdur-Rahim, Stojakovic return from injuries
Both expected to play against L.A. Lakers

One day after a jaw-dropping win over the Phoenix Suns, the Kings learned Wednesday that their power forward with the broken jaw will be returning to action.
Shareef Abdur-Rahim, whose jaw was broken by the errant elbow of Portland's Zach Randolph on Dec. 26, was expected to miss up to two months. But little more than three weeks later, he will attempt to play limited minutes against the Lakers at Arco Arena on Thursday night.

The Kings will also welcome small forward Peja Stojakovic, who has missed three games with a back injury. Stojakovic practiced Wednesday, and said he will play against the Lakers.

Abdur-Rahim's return is an experiment of sorts, a way to gauge whether he can contribute quite yet. Abdur-Rahim's jaw was wired shut Dec. 28 to fix his left mandibular angle fracture, though he won't have the wires removed for three more weeks. His biggest challenges will be breathing through his clenched mouth and playing without the "seven or eight" pounds he lost while being on a liquid diet. "If I can play, I want to play," Abdur-Rahim said. "If (Kings coach Rick Adelman) tells me he doesn't think I can help, then I'll sit. But if not, I want to play."

They better be fit and contribute.

I would love to see all of them back and soon but if they are not 100 % and there is a chance to hurt the team in any way - I don't want them out there

I hope RA knows what he is doing

Sadly, we will probably see them play, and Peja will get his 40 minutes, and the game will be slow and built around him getting off his 3 point shots.

Win or lose, I was really hoping to see that line-up vs. Phoenix. Maybe RA will just test out Peja and SAR, and only give them limited minutes.

BEAT LA!!!

Finally, we can get stop depending on those jump shots to win games. SAR should really help us with his low post presence. He will also be a matchup problem for the Lakers because of his scoring ability.

I think we'll see more jump shots. Peja shoots way more than Garcia, while SAR and Thomas usually shoot about the same amount of elbow jumpers. Our rebounding is gonna take a hit. Thomas is usually somewhere around 10 a game while SAR is around 5. At least Peja has been getting more boards lately.

Am I the only one who is cynical enough to suspect that their unexpected and rapid recoveries were hastened by the unbelievable effort put forth by Cisco, Kevin, and Kenny against Phoenix?
:(

I think that there is at least a kernel of truth to that, but maybe exaggerated.

I doubt it simply because they know the will be starting and having their minutes. They are still clearly #1 on their positions on this rosters regardless of what is going on. I think that they want to play but I am not sure wheather they are 100% and capable of contributing.

I think that is a bad idea for SAR. No way that thing is at 100% yet, and he's one good elbow or fall from some serious downtime.

And no QD, this time you are likely not jumping to conclusions. Figure there are 4 possibilities: 1) they want to restate their own claims to those jobs; 2) they are being showcaased for trade; 3) Tuesday looked fun and they want in on it; or 4) they just want to help us try to get back into the playoff race. The cynics choices here seem the more likely.

I truly hope these guys are healthy enough to make impacts. If their recovery requires more time, they should not rush it and risk getting more seriously injured.

I am pretty sure that Adelman will give the Terrific Trio substantial minutes against Los Angeles. Adelman is not stupid, and a coach simply has to reward players that leave it all on the floor like Cisco, Kenny, and Kevin did on Tuesday night. Right is right!

1) I don't really think that is is naccessary

2) You actually have to play well to make Yourself atractive. You can only do that if You are healthy

3) possible but the 6 games road trip is coming up

4) it is still the team that are on and I see no reason why they wouldn't want to do well

We need those guys healthy and playing or their replacements if traded.

Kevin will start so there is no problem there. KT will play more than SAR. As for Cisco - depends how Pedja does and how Cisco does of the bench

It should not be that way. regardless of Peja's effectiveness, Cisco needs a respectbale amount of time on the court. I would start Peja, and tell Cisco why I thought it was best to do so. I would substitute Cisco into the game after a few minutes, then see how things go. Peja has a serious injury-health problem.

Actually often a trade will be delayed just until a guy shows he is able to get back on the court. Not aquestion of pumping up their trade value at that point, just a question fo the other team wanting to make sure they get a guy able to suit up for them when he arrives ratehr than making a trade and essently gettign a bunch of unnecessary lost player games before it pays off. Most teams in that poistion will just wait to pull the trigger until the injured guy is back.

This is just a dumb idea to put shareef out there (unless they are showing him off for a trade of some kind), espeailty as a bigman, bows are thrown every where in a basketball game. There is a high chance of futhering damage to his jaw, we are just lucky that we are not playing a laker team with shaq on it or shareef would be in big trouble, lol.

recently, GMs are being more careful with that. I am sure that players will be given a physical no matter what. I also hope that Kings will give a physical to any player they aquire.

Along with that, any team that really wants Peja badly would not likely want to put off obtaining him too long if they feel some other team might get an urge to go after him. Peja is still a sought-after player and would fit nicely into some teams offensive schemes.

So from Your experience with coach Adelman - what do You think will happen tomorow ?

If i remember correctly Vince, and maybe Davis (not really sure) were both traded when they were injured.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm OK with SAR coming back but I wish Peja would continue to sit out. We would have lost that game to Phoenix had he played.

last time i remember, SAR was a low post threat, never see him taking jumpshots

Magette failed physical and so did SAR with the Nets
True, but the nets just got scared. SAR had that scar tissue since he was in high school and all the other teams he played for knew about the scar. The nets just got scared.

Hardee, har, har (to quote the Great One). I think Peja will start, but play less than 20 minutes. I'll bet Adelman start's Kenny, and Rahim plays only a few guarded minutes, especially if things get rough out there.

Has Danny Fortson been traded to L.A.?

Is Rahim hard-wired?

If Pedja plays and feels OK - he will play 35+
