Paul Pierce

I think Ron's defense gets him up into the Top 20 probably. But not Top 10. He's somewhere around wherever Kirilenko falls on these type lists. 15-20 probably.

Let's see:

1) LeBron
2) Kobe
3) Garnett
4) Duncan
5) Wade
6) A.I.
7) Amare
8) Dirk
9) Nash
10) Brand
11) Pierce
12) TMac

 James over Kobe, KG and TMac????????

James over KG and TMac pretty easily, imho. KG has had two relatively mediocre years following his MVP performance, and his team has had losing records both years. Not to mention KG isn't getting any younger.

Lebron has so much youth on those three, it's not that odd of a pick to me. I'd make the same selection if I were starting a team today as well. There isn't a big guy in the league right now (other than may be Dwight Howard or a healthy Amare) worth passing James over.

I hope Amare does return this year just so it screws up the suns, and show you he shouldnt be on that list. :p

I wanted to revisit this thread from two years to gauge where Paul Pierce now fits into Celtics Legacy after winning his first NBA Championship. I felt then, and I feel now that when it is all said and done that Pierce's number will go up into the garden rafters as one of the all time Celtic greats. I heard an interview with John Havichek this morning and he was asked if he considered Pierce a Celtic great and Havichek said absolutely. And I will go out on a limb and say that if the Celtics win again next year that Pierce will be a borderline Hall of Famer.

Yes, this is a very old thread that was just bumped. If it causes too much confusion I'll just lock it down.

No Chris Paul?

Haha, yeah it was funny. I was reading this thread today unbeknownst that it was so old. Came across that post and without looking at who had made it I thought to myself "Man I really agree with that, except CP3 would have to be on there somewhere and Artest off"

Glad I can still agree with myself, basically, 2 years later. i'd think it'd look more like this now though

1. LeBron James
2. Kobe Bryant
3. Chris Paul
4. Paul Pierce
5. Kevin Garnett
6. Dwight Howard
7. Dwayne Wade
8. Tim Duncan
9. Steve Nash
10. Amare Stoudamire

Purple Reign's UPDATED Top Ten (as of 6/19/08)

1. Kobe Bryant
2. LeBron James
3. Chris Paul
4. Dwight Howard
5. Kevin Garnett
6. Paul Pierce
7. Tim Duncan
8. Steve Nash
9. Amare Stoudamire
10. Manu Ginobli

Next Ten in No Particular Order
Dwayne Wade
Deron Williams
Carlos Boozer
Carmelo Anthony
David West
Tony Parker
Allen Iverson
Chris Bosh
Tracy McGrady
Baron Davis

Well, Manu is not top 10, and never has been or will be. He;s clearly not a superstar level player. And Pierce had a good playoffs and might have reestablished himself as borderline Top 10, but that doesn't leapfrog him all the way into MVP contention -- he had a lot of help.

Also, you, perhaps intentionally, forgot Dirk and Yao.

And Adonal Foyle.

I said this 2 years ago in this thread, and I'll say it now. Manu is not top 10. No matter how you slice it.

And as for my list...yeah I kinda forgot about Yao. But leaving Dirk off was, and always is, intentional.

Paul Pierce Revisited... For the Third Time (SIX PLUS YEARS LATER!!!)

It amazes me that six years later Paul Pierce is still "THE TRUTH", after tonight's performance against the Hawks; (36 pts, 14 reb, 4 ast, 11-13 from the line and 8 TOs, from the Point Forward Position), this guy in my mind is "STILL" the most underrated player in the NBA right now, SIX YEARS AFTER I STARTED THIS DARN THREAD!!!:D

He is in my opinion "now" in the top 5 greatest Celtics of all Time (maybe even top 3):

Bill Russell
Larry Bird
Bob Cousy
John Havichek
Paul Pierce - in his 14th season as a Celtic
Kevin McHale
K.C. Jones
Robert Parish
Tom Heinsohn
Sam Jones

I was very impressed with Paul Pierce last night. He was flat out the star of the game. He had one play where he blew past Kobe (and remember Pierce is not fast to say the least) drove down the middle of the lane and just threw down a monster dunk on somebody. It was as nasty of a dunk that I have seen all year. On top of that he made every big shot and he gets to the line more than anybody in the league.

My question is where does Pierce fit in as far as an all time Celtic great?

And is he a top 10 player in the league? He sure looked like it last night, and for the most part I think he is one of the more underrated players in the league.

I don't know whether he's top 10 or not, but he's a guaranteed HOFer. Love the way the guy plays. I like watching him play more than anybody in the NBA. He's the toughest player I've ever seen in the NBA. He doesn't have the talent of LBJ, but I'll take him over LBJ any day in a big game. He will not quit.
