Patty Mills - Waiting at the table for the Blazers scraps

Being a St Marys Gaels fan, I am biased. But I think that Patty Mills could be a cheap pick up for the Kings this summer. He is still under contract with the Blazers, but it is a team option. They have Andre Miller, Bayless and Elliot Williams in front of him. He might not make their final roster. He would bring two things that the Kings need: speed and shooting. Plus, he is a character guy.

I don't think that he will ever be a legitimate starter in the NBA because of his defense, but he could be something special as a change of pace point guard off the bench.

I am completely supportive of Petrie's wait and see attitude toward free agency this year. I think that once the funny money has dried up there will be some cheap options to round out our roster (James Jones, waived by the Heat for example). I was looking forward to hearing other's thoughts about table scraps that may work for the Kings.

Im on board with this because he's cheap and I liked him ALOT last year coming out of Saint Marys it sucks he missed the whole year because of his foot. If GP is reading this board I'd hope he'd look at that guy if hes healthy.

I was a big Patty Mills fan when he was at St. Mary's. I also wanted the Kings to pick him up. I don't know what kind of offer it would take to pry him away from Portland. He's guarnteed just under a mil with the qualifing offer, so our offer would have to exceed that. That means your talking around 2 mil a year, and that might be considered a lot for a still, unproven player.

This is the exact definition of low risk how reward when it comes to the type of offer it would take to get that guy. He's real low on their totem pole as well as they just now got around to giving Bayless mins. Sadly of all the player option threads I read this is the only one I can't find anything negative on, kudos to the thread starter.

Count me in as a Patty Mills fan as well. I just don't think the Kings can steal him away from Portland.

He's the type we should be looking for in a 3rd PG, but I don't see how we're going to get him cheaply. Portland doesn't let assets just walk out the door.

True, but as the OP noted, they've got several PG's in front of him on the depth chart. They will also have new management coming in, and the new GM may very well prefer a clean slate. I don't see how a future 2nd wouldn't be too far off. Then again, the new mangament may very well clear out some of the PGs in front of him, and not be as willing to deal.
