Pacers want to talk to Artest; Stojakovic 'disrespected'

"The way I was treated today, I was disappointed," Stojakovic told ESPN.com in Philadelphia. "I feel kind of disrespected with the way I found out. Thank God they have TVs here. I understand being traded, but this is situation is weird. I had already planned my flight back to Sacramento, and now everything is reversed.
"I guess this is just a business, but the way I was told and the way I found out, I feel I deserved better from [Kings owners Joe and Gavin Maloof]. Anybody can get traded in the NBA, but the way I found out, it was disrespectful. I deserve better after seven and a half years."

I was one that was totally for this trade, BUT I dont dislike Peja and I for one think he should have been treated better. There is no way Peja will stay at the end of the season(IMHO).

Nope he's gone.

And I have no idea how he was treated, but if he heard about it from the general media rather than from us, then he's right. No less than Webb or anybody else, Peja at least deserved a phone call and maybe even a face to face from the men in charge. Been here a long time. Moving him almost had to be done, but do it with class and treat him well on the way out.

What's even sadder is we haven't heard anything from KHTK about this quote, Grant even said he talked to Peja on the phone and he understood this was a business and he was still a King and he would be back. Either Grant is lying or the guys that are supposed to be the flagship station for the Kings are lying, or they don't know yet... which considering we do, is just sad. No loyalty from this orginization, none.

I don't need to know how he was treated to believe him that he feels slighted. This is Pedja, he never talks openly and this directly.

This actually ties in very well with off again, on again news and our "feeling about GP" thread. Maloofs/GP may not have much choice but to get the trade back on track if they cannot fins an immediate deal/suitor or Pedja other then for RFA.

I completely agree Brick. Peja did deserve better after so many years of service, he is right to feel disrespected.

It's Grant. He must be confused with on-again, off-again with this deal, so he probably doesn't know which way the wind blows.

What has happened to this organization over the past few seasons? It seems as if ownership has determined that for one reason or another it cannot be upfront and honest about certain dealings with its employees (Adelman and Peja learning things from the medai jump to the front of my mind). It makes the organization look second-rate, imho.

I too was in favor of trading Peja, but wished him no ill will and no disrespect. He's certainly a NBA caliber player that in the right system is a borderline star. He's not the best fit for the Kings at SF right now, and his deal is up at the end of the year, so he needs to be moved, but not this way. Think Chicago will give Nocioni up for him at this point? Maybe throw Duhon in as well (as the Kings could use a back up PG)?

If the Pacers still want to unload Artest, I say fine, but the Kings have to tell them that they need something else in the deal as well in case Artest refuses to report. Fred Jones is a minimum, Danny Granger the max. Work your magic, Petrie.

This trade basically has to happen now for both sides. The Pacers aren't getting a better deal than this. And if it doesn't happen, Peja's trade value is going to be lower than nil now that he's unhappy and feels disrespected by the organization. Teams will just wait for him to walk in the offseason, or they'll lowball the Kings so hard they'll get worse than junk in return. It's either Artest or nothing at this point.

that surprised me too. which is the real story?

I understand Peja being upset & disappointed. I can't believe he may have found out from the media. I am very disappointed in the way things are being handled right now. First the crap with approaching Phil Jackson this summer, and now, letting a player who has been a part of your team for this long find out from the media facts about his life?? THis is just wrong. Peja deserves better.

Wasn't Rick (instead of GP/Maloofs) asked to inform CW of his pending deal, too? Considering that Chris had to waive the trade-kicker clause, that episode wasn't all that Kosher either.

WHY!!!! Why did you DO this Kings?

This is why you ALWAYS have to treat people with the utmost respect. You never know what is going to happen. If the Kings did treat Peja like this then that's a HUGE error in judgment.

If you listen to past players they have been treated the same. I think I remember Webb getting a heads up (not sure) but I remember Pollard saying the same thing. That nobody told him that he was being traded, he heard it from the radio.

webber was hardly notified before his *** was practically thrown outta sacramento. rick adelman wasn't notified before the maloofs pursued phil jackson in the offseason. those were the two guys who'd been around as long as peja, so peja shouldn't have expected any different.

and i don't believe any of the above should have been treated the way they were. the maloofs are not very good at keeping relations positive with those they plan on parting ways with. for such a classy organization, the kings need to start getting their act together. find a direction. stick with it. follow through....please, if only for the sake of the fans' sanity!

Pollard and Barry found out from other sources. Webb I think was one of the few players who found out from the team.

Kings Have No Chemistry....kings Suck

NO THEY DO NOT.

It has been a bad year and today was our lowest point so far. Our leadership and a nutjob from another team botched this up. Trade or not, it was handled AWFULLY. but THIS TOO SHALL PASS.

Well, Webb was consulted, but probably only because he had a clause in his contract that could have stopped the trade.

And, yes, none of them deserved this. I know the Maloofs are supposed to be wonderful businessmen, but this is not how you run a business. I love how they treated Peja this way, but in quotes today said "when you become a King we treat you like our family". Hmmm.. interesting family.

correction: for an organization which is perceived to be classy. the organization's actions in no way indicate that those who run it from the top in fact have class, at least in their dealings with those who are soon to be former employees.

that's not entirely inaccurate. says nothing of the way in which they treat those who are no longer Kings. their actions speak in those instances, and it's not the way most people treat their family.

Four and a half years ago I started liking the Kings mainly beacause of Peja. They were doing great for the next few years to, Peja was second leading scorer in the NBA, almost won a championship. I mean could it get any better!?!?! I can't explain to anyone how good I felt and how much I love(d) Peja. It is so sad for me to see him go (if he does). Especially in such a painfull way. I mean if your gonna do a trade just do it and get it over with. But this way Peja knowing he will be traded might have to play a game with the Kings tomorrow. I'm not against Peja being traded, whatever is best for the team. Oh well what goes up must come down I guess.

PS: I will still be a Kings Fan with all my heart no matter where Peja ends up!

yeah....now i stand corrected, to a degree.

as i turn back time, i do remember that webb was told by team officials (was it adelman???), but he wasn't consulted. they didn't ask if he approved of the trade, but he did in the end anyways, out of respect for the organization.

I am not clear on HOW Peja was disrespected?

Just because he FEELS disrespected does not make it so.

The first priority from the standpoint of the organization is to consummate the deal. I think when it comes to trades over the years that the Kings, Geoff Petrie in particular, tries to be as discretionary and sensitive as possible to a players' feelings.

The media and rumors and leaks from insiders can take on a life of their own with the way at which news, real or not, can spread like wildfire. The Kings cannot be held accountable for that.
