our 5th pick for..

Big Cuz 15

All-Star
greg oden? i know brick mentioned it before but i figure cousins won't be there when we pick. we need help at the front court positions. it would be a serious gamble on both sacramento/portland sides. if oden returns to form and can stay healthy.. pritchard would definitely be fired. if oden cannot stay healthy.. petrie will get alot of flack not to mention kings fans w/ pitchforks at arco.

Its like the Thabeet thing -- bigger talent, but bigger injury risk. And same deal for us. We NEED a big interior clog the lane defender to anchor the defense. We have needed that player for half a decade now. If the top kids in the draft are gone by the 5th pick, who would I put my money on to fill that role, Greg Oden, or Cole Aldrich/Whiteside/Udoh/Varnado/whoever. It is no contest. Oden all the way, and just start eating Lucky Charms every morning (which I have always loved anyway, so no great sacrifice).

Put another way, if Greg Oden had stayed in school he woul be graduating this year and in htis draft. If all those injuries had happened to him in college, but he had still shown the flashes he has when healthy, he might STILL be the first center taken in the draft (given Cousins own questions). Taking Cole Aldrich over him in the draft could get you fired.

Im all for it ... but He would be the type of person I hold my breath on every time he falls :( It's a risk I'd take if the top 4 are gone, maybe.

Assuming Wall, Turner and Favors are gone and Cousins is either gone or deemed not worth the pick by Geoff then I certainly would. It's a gamble worth taking at a position that the Kings desperately need to upgrade and with fairly minimal risk involved.

The question for me though is who Portland would be targeting at #5 that they would be interested in the deal.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing, I don't really know who Portland would take with the pick. Johnson would be an upgrade over Batum, but they really need a PG, as I don't really think Andre Miller fits with the rest of the team. Problem is, there's not many great PG's in this draft not named Wall. Avery Bradley maybe, but 5 is too high for him.

I would LOVE to be able to get Oden though. Any time you have a chance to grab the #1 overall pick from a few years ago, you do it! (No Kwame Brown references please :p) Especially with how well Oden has shown he can play when healthy

Being the suspicious person that I'am. If Portland was willing to trade Oden, my gut would tell me that there's something wrong that I don't know. Because if Oden is absolutely healthy, then Portland's not going to trade Oden. Would you? I know I sure wouldn't.

I still suffer from the Ralph Sampson and Derick Smith syndrome.

This!!!

Portland won't trade Oden for now. They still want to justify picking him first in the draft so they will give him some more time.

Whether or not Oden is healthy now he has shown a propensity if not an outright talent for getting injured- this is why we could possibly acquire him and why he would be a gamble.
