Van Gundy: Alston will continue as starter

LOS ANGELES -- Rafer Alston's job is safe, and Jameer Nelson will continue to come off the bench in the NBA Finals.

At least that's what Orlando Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said, with some conviction, Friday, a day after the Magic's 25-point loss to the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 1.

"I cannot imagine -- although I'll never say never -- that I would get to a point where I would be comfortable starting him after he just missed four months. I've got no issues going forward with regards to who I start," Van Gundy said.

Seriously, what is up with that stupid looking face Kobe does after he makes an important shot? It's like his "I'm angry and I just got the best of you" face with a massive under bite. It looks absolutely ridiculous and ESPN just loves showing it in slow motion. Is this just something he's started doing this year because I can't recall ever seeing this stupid looking face before this year.

at least he has something to be arrogant about. What do we have to be arrogant about? Getting the worst record but the 4th pick?

i dont care if he scores 81 or gets how many rings... theres no excuse for arrogance..

cant you be good with out the ego? with out mocking?

we dont have anything to be arrogant about cause its not the kings way... its not how majority of our fans act.. and even if we get back to our winning ways... i dont think arrogance will be a problem..

we arent that bad to get the worst record.. honestly were not THAT bad.. we just had a godawful coach who didnt know to utilize his players... injuries aside i see this team improving by a huge margin next season. probably 37 to 42 wins...

I don't see how the face is mocking. Ego yes, mocking no. I don't think Kobe really mocks his opponents ... that's more of a shaq thing. Kobe is arrogant, definitely, but that's different from mocking. As for whether you can be good without the ego? I don't think so. Jordan had an ego too. And as far as I know Kobe isn't the one going out to the media calling himself the best player in the world bla bla bla.

And it's good that you hope so high for our team, I too hope that they can improve. However I'm afraid I have to wish you a whole load of good luck if you think next year's Kings are going to win 42 games...

well if your going to hope might as well throw it all in and hope for the best :D

he doesnt mock his opponents?

against shane battier he was like that cant guard me face..

after being taken down by raja bell for his unseen elbow strike during the playoffs he did that brushing off his shoulder with that arrogant face again

to me that is mocking.. cant you just play

other than that he gets away with a lot of elbow shots...

like i said a 37 win next season for me is ok.. but we dont know whats next seasons instore for us... we had to suffer the rest of the season from kenny freaking natt...

Well I guess we have different definitions of mocking. I take it as very literally mocking your opponent. Actually come to think of it I'm sure a lot of players mock each other while on the court in terms of trash talk. We as fans watching the game don't get to hear what players are saying to each other but I'm quite confident that it includes trash talk and that sort of competitive banter. So in this sense I agree that Kobe Bryant, along with a lot of other players mock their opponents. Mutombo had his finger wag, isn't that mocking your opponent too?

While this may all seem very unsportsmanlike and stuff, we must remember that to these NBA players, especially those in the "elite" group, basketball is and has been their life. We are fans of the game but to them basketball is really all they've pretty much spent their life doing. And in order to win, the players should be allowed to do whatever they want to in terms of body language or emotions as long as they do not harm others or provoke them.

As for the elbow shots that's definitely not sportsmanship. But if it comes as part of just being physical and isn't intentional then it's fine with me. The thing about players getting away with it should be on the refs, who also have a really hard time making all the calls.

lets go hedo

why dont they just force kobe to take all the shots...you can't beat the lakers when they all are on fire. You notice how kobe is getting his team involved early now-then taking over in the 4rth. Force him to take shots in the first-play single coverage then collapse unexpectedly when he comes down the lane. Don't double on anyone other than kobe if you have to.

against shane battier he was like that cant guard me face..
I think he feels Battier's hand in his face is bush league and he's going to humiliate him for it. (Just a personal hunch as far as SB goes). He did hang out with Shaq for a number of years, after all.

I think it's even worse how ESPN/ABC praises his "intensity" whenever he shows his massive underbite. Kobe knows when the camera's are on him much like when Webber made his dumb animal face.

Man do I ever hate that look he does.....that's worse than KG's neck veins popping out when he's screaming in the air the entire game.

Okay, Orlando. Let's see something to wipe the "intensity" right off Kobe's smug arrogant countenance.

GO MAGIC!!!

Now showing on BBCAmerica: Any Dream Will Do, the finals. It's actually more interesting to me than the sporting event currently taking place on another channel.

;)
