Ongoing saga of Luc Mbah a Moute (merged)

I thought Luc didn't want to play basketball anymore? With Cassipi, Rudy, Butler, and Belineli I'm not really sure he'll get much burn. But might be good to toss in every once in a while. Hope it's for the minimum.

And on the next page of that thread, people are trying to come up with other real-life equivalents of how posters are butchering Luc's name. Since the person who started this thread called him Richard a moute (essentially the last half of his first name and last half of last name), the equivalents here would be Marcus Sins (for Boogie), Jon Do (for Rondo) and Lie Stein (for WCS). Personally, I think those are all pretty badass- who wouldn't want Marcus Sins leading a motley crew with a guy named Jon Do and Lie Stein. Throw in Ri Pi (Omri) Co Ni (Marco) Dre Ler (Miller) and Ron Tler (Caron) and you really have the beginnings of something :)

Just as a side note, Luc might have been part of the greatest three consecutive 2nd round picks that I can remember.

In 2008 the 35th-37th picks were DeAndre Jordan, Omer Asik and Luc Mbah a Moute.

You could even argue best four consecutive 2nd rounders since Mario Chalmers went 34th, just before DJ.

Also in that second round were Nikola Pekovic (31st) and Goran Dragic (45th). Kind of interesting.

sigh. Again, is all this Luc doesn't want to play from the Ham podcast? Its literally the only place I ever heard it.

Can we change the title on this thread? As far as I've read, nothing is official yet.
The title also refers to "Luc's back" (i.e. his own body part). Not trying to be the grammar police, I am just saying. I thought the thread was about some back injury. Ask Carmichael Dave how important commas and apostrophes can be- Woj apparently blocked Dave on twitter over a comma :)

I like the idea of Mbah a Moute but I would hope for not much more than the minimum. I'm surprised that anyone would bad-mouth the guy, always seemed like a team guy and high effort guy despite the lingering knee issues. I really think we need to add another PF and a 3rd PG before another wing though. Given Collison and Rondo's injury history a 3rd PG would seem like a need and with the lack of experience off the bench at the 4/5 I would think some depth there would be in order (Darrell Arthur or Josh Smith please?!).

Even if Luc can play some defense, do we really need 4 SFs?

I guess if we play Gay a lot at the 4 then we play Omri (Run n gun), Butler (shooting) or Luc (Defense) depending on what we need at the time.

Yeah lots of flexible SF , would be nice to combine all 3 SF into one player OmButLuc LOL

Mbah a Moute, Butler and Miller all would be stabilizing locker room voices. Which may be as important as anything they bring on the court. Get em all in here and let's make this playoff push with veteran leadership in the locker room.

So where does Luc fit in the rotation? And what is left to get? Just a PG?

PG - Rondo/Collison/TBD (Stockton? Miller?)
SG - McLemore/Belinelli/Anderson
SF - Gay/Casspi/Butler
PF - Cousins/Mbah a Moute?/Moreland
C - Koufos/Cauley-Stein

Or will Gay start at the PF?

PG - Rondo/Collison/TBD (Stockton? Miller?)
SG - McLemore/Anderson
SF - Belinelli/Casspi/Butler
PF - Gay/Mbah a Moute?/Moreland
C - Cousins/Koufos/Cauley-Stein

I look at it as Gay being the starter at SF and Omri being his backup. With Karl looking to theoretically play Rudy at the PF a lot that means a lot of minutes for Omri. Those two are key players for the Kings.

Mbah a Moute and Butler are much more situational. A versatile, defense-first player was something Karl was lobbying for before the draft.

George Karl said:
I think we need a defensive player. I think we must improve defensively so the two things that come to mind for me are shot-blocking … protecting the rim and maybe a defensive-attitude guy that I can go sic 'em on a great player
That would Mbah a Moute. He's had success guarding SGs, SFs and PFs and even some PGs. He'll be a guy that Karl calls on when needed. I think Butler was brought on primarily for two things - to be a solid vet/good locker room presence and to be insurance in case of injury. Essentially he'll be the third SG and SF which will be an important role during a long season.

The Kings obviously need a 3rd PG and I think they need one more big, ideally a PF with some offensive capability. Josh Smith, Darrell Arthur and Kevin Seraphin would be my top picks but I don't think the Kings have the capspace or role to bag them.

He likely wouldn't be part of the regular rotation, unless injuries call for it. Instead he'd be used as a specialist when the game and matchups make sense for his skills. A very valuable weapon to have as a choice.

The nice thing about him on the offensive side, is he looks to run the offense and move the ball. High IQ all around

He looked out of shape to me when he was in Philly, not from a physical stand point but conditioning...I question his passion for the game at times. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to bring him in and sick him on a offensive player for a few minutes.

The Kings signing Luc Mbah a Moute still remains a strong possibility, I'm told. But as Bargnani showed, nothing matters till it's official
