Okafor

Section 101

All-Star
Rumblings that the CP3 trade needs Okafor going out for it to work. Petrie should be on the phone taking him for the cap space.

Because okafor is better.

I don't really know that is true. He's small and routinely gets overwhelmed in there. He's really of all that class of guys the one who has always seemed the emptiest stats to me. He's all of 1 yr younger than Daly, has very similar career per minute stats, and now all of a sudden we are willing to pay him the $12-$14 mil when we balk at Daly at $10mil?

Per 36 min, career:
Okafor ___14.1pts (.516FG%) 11.2reb 0.9ast 0.8stl 2.0blk 1.9TO -- $12-$14mil
Dalembert 11.2pts (.520 FG%) 11.5reb 0.7ast 0.7stl 2.6blk 2.1TO -- $10mil?
Chandler _10.8pts (.568FG%) 11.5reb 1.0ast 0.7stl 1.8blk 2.0TO -- $15mil

Best part about Okafor's contract is that it's for 3 years which is right before Cousins will get maxed. We'd probably have to give Sam 5 years and he'll likely start slowing down at the end of that. It gives us some defensive momentum while we get a look at Whiteside and he comes off the cap when we need him to.

He's the right style of guy but I'd still take Dalembert first. Dalembert, Chandler, Okafor, Jordan could all work in that role.

The stats and the $ don't jibe. This looks to be a situation where the the stats don't tell the key parts of the story.

that Okafor wa a celebrated collegian who was foolishly given his deal because peeps still thoguht he had potential to be more? Or that Tyson Chandler got lucky enough to play for the Dallas Mavs last season? Do you think he would be getting paid $15mil if he had played for us last year?

In any case, with DeAndre Jordan now also apparently getting a $10mil offer Dalembert will be settling in there somewhere I'm sure. Just what these guys cost.

Okafor would be a good fit. A top offensive rebounder that doesn't need touches and a shot blocker. I was surprised to see Kris Humphries high on the list of offensive rebounds too.

btw Chuck Hayes ranked pretty high. Actually, Hickson, Cousins, and Dalembert were all high on the list. Kings will need to hit the glass with Evans and Cousins getting the most shots.

If we can't keep Dally, i'd be down to blow some cap space on Okafor. One of Dally's biggest weaknesses last year was that he would get pushed around in the paint a bit by some of the larger centers. That would not be the case with Okafor. Sure he's expensive, but overpaying centers seems to be necessary, unfortunately.

Okafor would have to be acquired via trade - he's still under contract.
