Oh! Welcome back!

Nothing too interesting but just to satisfy your "curiosity". There was an ongoing issue where mods were having to attempt login multiple times. I couldn't log in at all (therefor couldn't contact anyone or provide prior warning). The software version was VERY out of date and I didn't have the knowledge or time to invest in figuring out how to upgrade it. I worked with the developers and paid them to migrate the site (at significant expense). They did a great job but their response time was very slow and what I thought would be a day of downtime turned into longer (4 days?).
Well done, and it happened during TDOS and not when trade news broke or playoffs :)

Thank you for doing all that! It is a great site for Sacramento Kings fans. So many interesting points of view and real basketball fans here.

@Revrag can we pool some funds to send to you for whatever expenses you incurred?

Also, is it possible to have someone like @Tetsujin or @Capt. Factorial be authorized to work on the site in the future?

Lastly, this is great that we now have multiple ways to like a post but getting a multi reply would be wonderful.

Last last - I hate this pop up thing at the bottom of my screen trying to sell me termini and Chuck Norris information.

If the pop up ads are the cost of a free site I can live with them (most for me are HiFi stereo speakers, guess what I've been googling a lot lately lol) but I will say they make the site near unusable on my iphone.

I use Firefox with ublock on my phone and have never seen an ad here. Brave is another alternative. Pop ups were a scourge of the early internet. Having no ad blocker is like voluntarily contracting the flu.

I don't spend enough time on my phone to bother with third party browsers. Sometimes I get bored enough to check the board but it's maybe once a month.

The ads are brand new.

Keep in mind that this site is privately owned by an individual, who pays a lot of money each month for web hosting and software licensing and domain registration - all out of pocket. You get my priceless insights as well as all of the iffy stuff that everybody else posts here for 100% free on the back of that one guy who is footing the bill. After the website upgrade, that bill went up. The new ads almost certainly don't cover the bills, but it's something. The least you can do is allow a few ads to prevent the site from bankrupting our benefactor. Not only that, but it's not every page load - it serves you ads on something like the first five pages (I didn't count) and then it doesn't serve you any more ads for like an hour or something (I haven't timed it).

Personally, I would be in favor of having paid memberships (maybe a buck or two a month) that entitled members to a higher tier of access - something like ability to post in designated game threads, ability to go over N posts per month, something like that. Free to read, small fee to contribute in full just to keep the thing afloat. But that's not my decision to make, if such a thing is even within the capability of the software. So ads it is.

So something like the old contributor system?

I'd gladly chip in a fiver to tell a select few around here how wrong they are on a consistent basis. Seems like a fair trade to me!

There's a limit on how many posts are allowed per month?

Nope, you are only limited by your typing speed and the forbearance of the mods to sheer volumes of posts by one person. ;)

I think he means that there could be some kind of "non-contributor's cap" on posting if they did want to ask for a minor subscription amount per month, or year, or whatever.

FWIW I’m on another board that is private. 100+ members, 50 ish active. It’s on Invision Power. It’s a couple hundred a year. We just donate randomly and it has way more usage features than this.

Ah, appreciate the clarification!
