Offseason FA Possibility : Haywood ?

What do you guys think, he is a big 7 footer than can rebound and defend nicely at the rim, what do you think he will commend in the free agency period ?

I hope we give him a hard look even though he is 30.

At this stage of his career, I think he would want to sign with a contender and he will get a good contract where ever he goes. I think he would be tired of losing and would want to win something.

If we can't get a superstar, I would be interested in bringing in anyone that can play D and block shots. He has been a better recruit for Dallas than Butler at this point in time.

Since I endorsed trading for Hayward before the trading deadline, I wouldn't object to signing him. It would depend on the price of course. I believe he's 30 years old. So he wouldn't be a long term fix, but he would lend some stability to the center position in the short term. He's a good rebounder and defender who can also score a little bit.

Did you all forget which team Haywood got traded to at the deadline? Good luck outbidding Cuban.

Now he is the only established free agent in this crop which fills that inside enforcer category. But we may have to try to fill that slot through other means.

we got nuff chips to throw a max contract at him ;)

Cuban is not letting him go. Dampier won’t be on the roster next year, so Haywood will be their true center. The last year of his deal is completely unguaranteed – which means the team that trades for him this summer can waive him and instantly wipe all of that money of next year’s cap. The Mavs are very good now and they are about to get a lot better this summer.

I see the rationale. But he is old and contending teams will want him. Not a bad idea in theory. But just does not make sense for us.
