Sorry VF21, just can't resist playing the trade game this week! I was thinking that a Jackson to the Clippers for Chris Wilcox and Bobby Simmons deal would make our frontcourt younger and more athletic with big upside in Simmons. And Bobby would give them a legit scoring PG. I know that it would temporarily leave us thin at PG but it's always better to trade small for large. Sounds equitable to me, how about you guys?

They probably wouldn't do this particular deal involving Simmons but then they've done some really wierd stuff in the past, you must admit. And if they lose out on Baron Davis they could feel enough pressure to upgrade their PG position to pull the trigger. In that case would we be happy with Wilcox and fodder to make the deal work?

Reason 1 : Wilcox is young, efficient, and they would be trading young and big for older, small, and injury prone.

Reason 2: Simmons might be a star and he is also much younger and bigger than Bobby.

Livingston works too. The thing is Jaric is as good as he's going to get. Livingston is only 18 years old. He's going to grow into his abilities. He hustles on defense and is already a much better ball handler than the "other rookie weakling". He's going to be a superstar and would benefit from the perspective that bibby and webber can give him.

I think the one thing you can say -- after sifting through all the dumb rumors, made-up trades, etc. -- is that, perhaps for the first time, the Kings are actively pinging their trade sonar with Peja as the bait. Peja had the opportunity to say he didn't want a trade. He didn't say it. Petrie had the opportunity to say that Peja wouldn't be traded. He didn't say it. Everyone's dodging the question, trying to say the politically correct thing. Doesn't mean a trade's going to happen, but finding a taker for Peja is a lot better bet, I'd imagine, than finding one for CWebb.

It seems like some on this board have an aversion to discussing trades and some don't. I can fully understand the rationale for both. But isn't it kind of like people who complain that the quality of TV sucks yet they can't turn it off? Other teams have a whole section on trades only for those who like to talk trades about theirs and other NBA teams. Would there be enough interest to do that on this board or is our current interest piqued strictly because many of us see a need for change, are bored etc.?

I actually like talking about trades. My only request is that they be possible and practical for the teams involved. Occasionally, teams WILL make what seems to be a BAD trade. Primarily, they are dumping salaries. However, some GM's are just not very smart.

So, if it's financially possible and make at least a little sense it doesn't really hurt to talk about it.

I think the current interest is because of the rumors, the pending deadline, etc. Generally, trade threads are for off-season - at least that's when they seem to be most prevalent.

The only reason I made this thread the "official" pending trade deadline thread was so that people wouldn't be starting new threads for every random idea they came up with as the deadline neared.



Personally, I dislike a lot of trade talk simply because of how many people seem to confuse possible with fantasy. But that's just me. I like G_M's caveat...

So, if it's financially possible and make at least a little sense it doesn't really hurt to talk about it.

At least it will soon be over, at least until TDOS (the dreaded off-season), at least for the most part.
