NY/Toronto Trade: Davis for Rose

Isiah Thomas: "Let's see. Antonio is only making $13 mill this year and his deal is expiring. Maybe we should keep him and then shred some salary. Wait a minute, Jalen Rose makes over $15 mill per year and has another year left that will pay him almost $17 mill. I want him."

The Knicks are gunning for a complete starting lineup making > $10mil a year that doesn't even play.

If Jalen can get injured, he could join Allan Houston and Penny Hardaway and then they'd only need two more! Isiah is soooooooooo close to his goal!

Good deal for NY. Isiah is a good drafter and Jalen expires in another year anyways. Not to mention Larry wanted Jalen. New York can afford the extra year anyways. Isiah finally made a good move.

Isiah wants to make it clear that he is the dumbest GM in all of sports.....

LOL :) If there were any doubts they are all gone :D

I can't believe Toronto threw in a 1st Round pick given how desperate the Knicks are and how little New York cares about the luxury tax. Why did they have to fire Babcock to make a crappy deal like this?

Great deal for the Knicks, this trade actually freed up a PF spot for young talent like Channing Frye.

I'm saying this because I have him on my fantasy team :D

Dumb trade for BOTH teams IMO.......... Why would Knicks need another SG,SF and why would Tronto also give up a first round pick that is VERy useful in the future. PLus, why would the want to get Antonio Davs???

The trade makes perfect sense for New York -- they don't have a good small forward and have been struggling all year to fill that spot. First they played Quentin Richardson out of position (too small), then they tried Trevor Ariza, then they tried Qyntel Woods, then they tried David Lee. Jalen Rose isn't great, but all they gave up was an expiring deal and they get a 1st round pick to boot.

It works for Toronto because they need cap space to re-sign Mike James, but I still don't understand why they threw in the pick.

It's Denver's pick, so it's not a huge deal on Toronto’s part. But why NY does this is beyond me. Their backcourt is already stacked, why add another swing man. They need a dirty work role player, not another offensive player, especially one that is on the decline. There are cons and pros to the deal, but it still looks like a trade just for the sake of trading. Neither team will see much change come about.

Why didn't they make this trade earlier, so Jalen wouldn't have made the game winner?

This is an interesting trade because, after the A. Davis-in-the-stands incident, the Toronto Press shared their Kendra Davis horror stories. They will want to carry a plastic tarp, like the front row of a Gallagher performance, to avoid all the coffee that may soon be flying in their direction.

And remember that as soon as Isaiah is fired, he gets an even better job. He will be Lord of the Universe any day now.

ESPN - Denver's injured power forward/center, Nene, will be a restricted free agent this summer and a target for any team with salary-cap space, with Chicago and Atlanta already known to be interested.

But the Raptors just added themselves to the short list of clubs that might be able to put forth an offer that the Nuggets deem too rich to match or (more likely) forces Denver into a sign-and-trade & especially if Embry can follow through on his efforts to move swingman Eric Williams before the Feb. 23 trading deadline.

Something else you should know: Nene has some little-known Canadian ties.

His original NBA interpreter and personal manager, Joe Santos, was born and raised just outside of Toronto, which might actually give the Raptors a bit of a free-agent edge for once.

Even if Nene can't be lured north of the border out of Denver, having significant cap space is vital as the Raptors try to start over around Bosh. They need to make a splashy acquisition or two to show Bosh that he would be wise to sign a long-term extension before next season, and cap room makes the Raps a contender for not only Nene -- whom doctors expect to recover fully from his Opening Night knee tear -- but perhaps sharpshooting free agent-to-be Peja Stojakovic, a move that would be well-received by Toronto's expansive Serbian community as well.

This trade is not nearly as bad for Toronto as you make it seem. Yes, they gave up a first round pick but that was the only way to get rid of Jalen's huge contract ($17 million next season) and besides it's Denver's pick not Toronto's. Toronto has plenty of rookies (2 on the team right now, 2 developing in Europe) + 1st round pick 2006 and 2 second round picks in 2006. They don't need more rookies.

They get immediate cap relief heading into the offseason which is important considering the fact they will nee money to re-sign Mike James (Bosh has publicy stated he wants him resigned), keep Bosh happy and possibly pursue a free agent such as Nene, Peja or Radmanovic.

I don't think people realize how desperate Toronto is for front court depth. Their best Center is Chris Bosh, and he's a PF. He logs a lot of minutes at the 5 spot, giving up on average...15 pounds. It's been like that since he got there. I would speculate one of the reasons that did Babcock in was his inability to get Bosh help up front. His last move was to call up 6'10 Pape Sow from the D-League.

Davis should be able to start at Center.

i think toronto are going to try sign someone fairly big hence the expiring contract

Note the first round pick guys. That was always the key to who was going to get the better of the Tronoto/NY deal. So the Knicks won, and Embry is as big of an idiot as Babcock was.

Anyone got Toronto's phone number? I want to offer my services as GM. I KNOW I couldn't do it any worse. I'll work cheap too. ;)

not only did the knicks get a first round pick but they got 3 million from the raptors as well.....zeke definitely has made some questionable moves, but he gets a big pat on the back for this one....tony was gonna leave at the end of the year and probably wouldve wanted bought out once the trade deadline passed....now tony can probably end up a bull by march 1 and zeke gets a sf he desperately needed, a 1st rounder, and 3 million in cash to help pay some of his lux tax bills....

how can toronto continue to just make dumb deals???
