Nothing...

With all the trade rumors everywhere Im surprised that nothing has happened yet. I dont mean just with the Kings, but within the entire league. You would think some transaction would have taken place by now.

From what I've heard there may not be a salary cap in the new CBA currently being negotiated. If that's so it puts a whole new light on trades since teams that traded for expiring contracts in the past to get under the cap may no longer feel the need to do so....casts a whole new light on the situation. But what if, after you trade for players thinking there won't be a cap the negotiators decide at the last minute to include one?

I can't see no salary cap being included. I mean, that's the whole basis for the structure, and if anything the owners are stronger now than there were the last time out. No luxury tax is possible.

Perhaps it was the luxury tax they were talking about...Mike Lamb on 1140...just caught a portion of the discussion...my bad!

Yeah, knocking out the luxury tax is a distinct possibility. The owners kind of voted it down anyway the last few years -- one of those issues where likely NEITHER side liked it.

Wait, isn't the luxary tax the only penalty for going over the cap right now? I'm confused(or just stupid) wouldn't that in effect make it no salary cap since there would be no penalty?

Its the only penalty, but if you knocked it out you would still have all the rules about not being able to sign players once you were over the cap, so the cap still stops you from acquiring big free agents left and right.

Think the tax was really meant to reign in the Paul Allen's of the world from trying to spend their way to a title -- could not sign free agents outright, but could use the Bird exception to trade for players and then lock them up in megadeals other teams might balk at. So an advantage in retention, but not inacquiring the players in the first place.

Damn, where is NME when you need him? He's been AWOL all season, and I'm getting tired of him shirking his responsibilities as resident cap expert. :)

Hmmmm....Koz is on right now saying that he's hearing some Kings rumors, talked to one high ranking official and said there are things going on (with the Kings or the NBA in general, I don't know) and hopes to have Geoff Petrie on. Stay tuned.
