Nocioni more friendly to the Kings

#1
In another note in the Ole he said:
http://www.ole.clarin.com/notas/2009/04/21/basquet/01902177.html

On the Kings he said
"I would like to end up in a more seasoned team, but it´s a done deal. I have a 3 year contract and i want to stay in the NBA. Not go back or play bad. I announced to them that i was going to prepare myself to be 100% physically because my objective next season is to have the best season of my career".

-How do you see the team??

-It has a lot of space to grow. I was told that my personality is needed to grow. We have the chance of adding 3 rookies via draft and both the pivots are 20 years. My hope is to improve.

Then he speaks about Scola and the Spurs.

In anothe side note in the same paper he said.

http://www.ole.clarin.com/notas/2009/04/21/basquet/01902178.html
-The manager (of the Kings) accepted that what i said was truth, although no one had said things like that before.

Sounds like we now officially have our post-BJax veteran presence.

I'm glad that he's cool with the idea of being there as a role model and leader for the kids, someone (who would be a GOOD example) needed to claim that responsibility, or at least accept it.

I like Nocioni. I like his passion and his focus. I like his willingness to be a TEAM player. I'm glad he's got what I've always called "the hunger." He's hungry to do better than just getting by and he wants teammates around him who feel the same.

Nocioni was one of the bright spots in a dismal dreary season and I'm pretty glad he's in the uniform of the Sacramento Kings.

And I like his honesty.

I like Nocioni. Add me to to the list of liking that he's a team player and that he always seems to be playing hard and really trying, including on DEFENSE. :)

Noce is definitely going to be a huge piece of our future. Whatever we add this offseason will kind of give us an idea of what attitude and style of team we will have...Petrie will have to be his 'former shrewd self' to pull a rebuild and redesign of this magnitude off yet again...but I have faith! Getting Noce for what he did was a great move, a steal in my eyes.

Its funny to me how when we traded for Noc 95% of the people on this forum hated the trade. No one wanted anything to do with Noc. I thought because of his energy and hustle he would become a fan favorite. But I think now everyone is starting to see how a personality like his will help the growth of the team. He can be brutally honest, but sometimes that is what a team needs. And he has never been accused of being a bad teamate or a problem in hte locker room.

Still... after the trade nobody wanted him, and over the past month I keep reading about how great he is on this forum. That is why we are FANS, and none of us are getting paid for our opinions.

I think there was a backlash against Nocioni's contract, not Nocioni himself
Absolutely, and I think thats still there.

He is a perfect 6th man, and a good vet to have on a young team. Your team isnt going anywhere with him as your starting SF but we arent going anywhere yet so I dont hate him being on our team.

I do think we need to figure out what were doing with him soon though, And after we fix our point guard spot we should focus on a better small forward, and his contact is still bad ...

I don't think his contract is bad for what he brings to the table. I would rather get rid of Beno, Garcia, and KT. I know some people will disagree with me about Garcia, but I like what Noc brings to this team more than he does. I would love to package Garcia with another player and see what we can get in return.

Not true or just call it a big exaggeration. There were complaints, but it was much closer to 50-50 than a whopping 95% not wanting anything to do with Nocioni. There were just as many saying they'd give him a chance to prove himself as a King than those who criticized the move. Many more were just happy to finally get rid of Brad Miller and also cut loose John Salmons.

I agree that most people didn't like his contract. Some thought we should have gotten more for Brad (not me, I suspect it was the best we could do). I like Noc and at least his contract goes down every year.

I don't know a lot about basketball. What does he mean by that? Is he giving a clue which way the Kings are leaning.

We have 3 of the top 31 picks, and both pivots (JT and Spencer) are young. JT is 22, Spencer is almost 21. By pivots he meant big men, but could have said it in a clearer way.

I didn't like the trade and I still don't. With that said, that doesn't mean I don't like Nocioni the player and person. I don't like his contract and I don't like what we gave up to acquire him as I feel like we overpaid to get him. I'll venture to say the majority of the people on these boards would agree with that assessment.

However, he's here now, and the trade is a sunk cost(can't go back). So I'm happy to have him and hope he has a career year next year and brings and infects his tenacity to play ball with the rest of this group.

He's reffering to the 3 draft picks we have: top 4 pick, #23 and #31.

The pivots that are 20 years old are Spencer Hawes and Jason Thompson.

Spence is actually 21 and Thompson is actually 23 as far as next year is concerned, but that's neither here nor there.

Nocioni won´t start at SF for any team?? only 6th Man??

I don´t know if you see the Bulls push on his first year in the league or his seconds, he is a good SF, not great, but up to his contract, the guy was injuried all year.

Anyway, i´ll let you say what you want for now, because next year many here will be saying how a bargain Nocioni is.

I didn’t like the trade and still don’t. Besides the fact that the first thing out of his mouth was that he didn’t want to be here, I hated his contract and that was the main reason I didn’t want to get him…I’ll just wait and see how he plays next year and then I’ll see if I like the trade, but it still doesn’t change the fact that he has a huge contract. Hopefully I’ll change my mind.

Forget about he said, she said, here is the link to the welcome Nocioni thread. It seems the majority was ready to give him a chance. Each year, as players make more and more, the overpaid accusations come out only to be crushed by the reality of inflation.

Update: the runaway payroll inflation ended in 2003. Since then, the average NBA player's pay has increased 6.1%, while the consumer price index has risen by 16%, resulting in a 10% pay cut in terms of real dollars. With the economy as it is, I expect this trend to become much stronger over the next year or two.

People really need to let go of that... Chris Webber said he didn't want to be here either, remember?

I got to watch Noc in person this season and I was very impressed with his hustle, his effort AND his team play. He had every right to be shell-shocked by what he walked into...he didn't say anything that wasn't true or pretty well known to everyone with half a brain.

He let his actions on his court prove his worth, IMHO. I'm glad we have him.

Yeah I remember that Chris didn’t want to be here; he even didn’t show up to a couple practices. Also Chris Webber didn’t have this enormous contract coming into Sac like Andres does…like I said, my main problem with him wasn’t his comment, but it’s his contract. He seems like a nice guy and his play is ok, but I’m just going to wait till next year, so I can digest him as a player. Hopefully I’ll change my opinion on him.

That's just not nice.

Webber was a different deal -- Webber was a major star and the guy you hoped you would build the franchise around. Whatever other objections may have been raised, it wasn't untiul the meag-extension that people began to get balky. And event hat was foolish. Money is no object with your superstar. Noc is in a much different place. He's a roleplayer, and everythign for a roleplayer must fit. His game muyst fit, his personality must fit, and his contract must fit. If he's hurting you in any of those areas, you just try to swap him out for someboyd who is a better fit.

I'm not upset with what he said. It was actually, in a strange way, sort of refreshing to hear someone tell the truth. No hard feelings over that.

However, I don't think Nocioni is the type of player we should have on the team. #1, he has a pretty big contract, #2, he's a complementary player with nothing to complement.

He's not horrible, and he's not really hurting the team, but we are paying him $7 million to play a role that we really don't need him to play right now. It's like having Shane Battier on a lottery team: his contributions don't mean nearly as much when you're as bad as we are.

His contract declines every year - he actually gets cheaper the longer we keep him. Not saying we should, but some might have forgotten this fact. Most folks get more expensive, he does the opposite.
