Nocioni & Hawes Traded for Dalembert

spencer was expendaple as soon as we traded kevin martin. its obvious spencer was drafted to build around kevin and be the succesor to vlade and brad miller. last years draft completely changed what this team is being built around and spencer doesn't fit. he may average 18 and 10 one day but it was a good trade for us because nocioni is out and thats all that matters really.

I agree with all of the statement in red. This was kind of the final changing of the guard -- a dramatic turnaround in philosophy that I am incredibly thankful for, but still a little baffled by. Its like we have a whole new front office.

The only softie/floppy holdovers now are Beno and Cisco, but Beno played really well last year and has a clear value for us, and even the really good defensive teams normally have 1 or 2 poor defenders strewn about that, as long as the team motif is defense, they don't singlehandedly kill you. And Cisco is...well he's floppy, but he's not really soft. He has a terrible contract, but potential as a veteran leader and fit next to Reke. So last of the holdovers they may be, but I am not sure they really have to be cleared for us to say that we've totally flipped things around here. Its a whole new world, and while they are numerous things our guys might not do well, at least finally, FINALLY we won't be screaming at them for softness or lack of effort. Makes it so much easier to root for a team.

I'm done. No sense arguing with kings fans who probably haven't seen more of Sammy than I have, let alone Philly fans who watched his entire career there. I'm not saying he isn't an upgrade when it comes to blocking shots and rebounding. What I am saying is that IMO, he doesn't have a "defensive mindset".
Blah-blah-blah. Blah-blah-blah.

Pardon me. But Philly fans are analyzing things too much. IMO, whether Dalembert has that defensive mindset or not is not critically important. If he doesn't, then I believe coach Westphal will ask him to have one.

We needed somebody who can rebound and block shots. Dalembert has that in his game. What he actually does is more important as how he actually thinks in this case. That is the only thing that matters. I wouldn't complain.:D

Ah ... like I had been saying all along - it had to do largely with the coaching staff and the team mentality overall. I believe that in this past season Spencer was told that he had to become a much better defensive and post presence and he actually bought into it. Oh well, too late for us now.
Is this not what he is suppose to say after just getting traded?

I don't see why we have to regret trading a center who I think will be the second coming of Chris Mihm.

I reserve my judgement till after this season. All I'm saying is, we all know that Hawes has potential. The big question with him has always been his willingness to use his post skills, get stronger, defend etc. Saying this doesn't necessarily mean he will end up being the next Kevin McHale we all dreamed about, but it certainly is a step forward as compared to "Banging inside isn't my game", or whatever it was along those lines that he once said.

It's stupid to say that we regret trading him, when he hasn't (or Sammy hasn't) even shown what they can do on the court this coming season. It's simply a "what if" feeling that naturally arises because we traded away a young player with potential. What if this year Hawes has a breakout season and proves to be capable of being a starting center in the league on a good team? What if Dalembert doesn't help us one bit? What if Hawes remains the same soft player he's been criticized for? What if Dalembert improves our defense tremendously and turns out to be a pretty good rental?

They're all "what ifs" ... till they become facts, all we can do is speculate. In any case, trades always have pros and cons - there will always be people on both sides of the fence. Except maybe when Gasol was traded for Kwame Brown ... Is Kwame Brown even still playing???

I wouldn't trust philly newspapers. They have a loving way of saying "good riddance." Besides, a change of scenery could be a blessing for both Hawes and Dalembert.

At this stage in his career, I really don't see him improving but maybe a change could do him well. Again I'm not a fan of his but I'm glad that he's a rental and maybe he'll suprise me.

I don't blame you for the eyeroll, it's going to be frustrating for Kings fans to hear this and then maybe see this game (if he does improve that area, which I think he will).
