Gainesville police spokesman Sgt. Rick Roberts says Noah was arrested around 1:50 a.m. Sunday after an officer spotted him on a sidewalk holding a plastic cup containing an amber drink, a violation of city law. During a search at the station, officers found marijuana in his pocket.
Noah was released after signing a notice to appear before a judge -- standard procedure for such offenses. He could face up to 6 months in jail and a $500 fine for the marijuana charge.
Noah led the Gators to consecutive national championships before being selected ninth overall in last June's draft by the Bulls. He averaged 6.6 points and 5.6 rebounds in 74 games as a rookie.
Bulls spokesman Tim Hallam said general manager John Paxson "did express to Joakim his disappointment in his actions this weekend" and added: "Until we gather further information on this situation, we won't be making any further comment."

hes not even 4 or 3 years in the league and already caught with marijuana i simply dont understand why some people still do dumb ****

pretty much a dissappointment that would hurt his career

and no i dont want to trade any player for him... hes already a headcase WITH OUT the marijuana what more with it

I'm not surprised at all this happened to one - Joakim Noah. His tennis pro father and role model Yannick Noah admitted in the 80's he smoked weed before matches. He said it was no problem because it was not considered a performance enhancing substance.

Josh Howard, Joakim Noah, who next to make more bad news for the National Buzzed Association?

It's not even the marijuana issue that really just aggravates the crap out of me. It's the stupidity factor. Some of these athletes must have cheated to get their high school diplomas because I've known rocks with higher IQs.

noah is either very stupid or so full of himself that he can use his "nba player" status to get a vip treatment from cops... if he goes to jail for 6 months...good luck getting back into a line up

these athletes need to realize they dont only cater to people their age and some kids look up to these guys.... its not a good example yet they dont do anything i hope Josh howard doesnt have kids yet... cause if he does and his kids watched tv with him on saying "I smoke Weed.... its no biggie" i dont know what message he is trying to send

Since NBA players years ago got owners to agree in their collective bargaining agreement to go lax on marijuana, none of this nonsense should be a surprise. When Josh Howard said 90% of the players smoked grass in the off season he could have just added, "and I could care less what fans think" - because that's precisely the arrogant attitude of most of the league's spoiled, pampered, protected, multi-millionaire pot heads.

Hey at least he was smart enough to be walking with a beer and not driving with one.. right? Haha.

What, Noah? Weed? Noooo....

Raise your hand if you knew it was only just a matter of time..
*raises hand*

Mark Cuban Admits He's Smoked Weed, Thus Justifying Josh Howard's Habit

The smoke dust from Josh Howard's postseason marijuana saga has mostly settled, though trade rumors have unsurprisingly centered around the forward. In a radio interview with Dan Patrick, a clip of which has been posted at SI.com (the top right corner), Mavericks owner Mark Cuban addresses the situation by admitting his own past usage. A cleaned-up transcript of the key passage:

Patrick: Do you care if he smokes pot?

Cuban: I'd be a hypocrite if I said 'yes' because I've inhaled, and when I inhaled I coughed a couple lungs out. And so I was never a big fan of smoking, but if I've tried it I can't look at somebody and say, 'How can you try it?' That's just terrible. [...] Again, I'd just be hypocritical if I said, 'Josh, smoking pot is just the worst thing you could possibly do.'

Cuban also said he doesn't believe Howard smoked during the season and revealed his team has had players for whom smoking pot became a performance issue. Cuban said those players were removed by trade or waiver.

the only knock to this is... it was too soon for him to do some dumb crap.... he can join muss for doing something stupid before your career started..

i agree with purpleHaze that some of these players are too arrogant to even care what image they bring out to the fans and to children... they should do drug tests for those things and ban guys like him

Like father, like son...

Yannick Noah is perplexed by "all that fuss" surrounding the arrest of his basketball player son, who was charged with marijuana possession and having an open container of alcohol.

Chicago Bulls forward Joakim Noah was arrested Sunday in Gainesville, Fla., after an officer spotted him on a sidewalk holding a plastic cup. Police said that during a search at the station officers found marijuana in his pocket.

"I don't understand all that fuss for just drinking a beer on the street," Yannick Noah said Tuesday at the French Open.

Bulls’ Joakim Noah gets probation, fine

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP)—Chicago Bulls forward Joakim Noah accepted a deferred prosecution agreement Wednesday in his marijuana possession case, resulting in six months’ probation and a $200 fine.

The former Florida star was charged with possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana and for having an open container of alcohol early Sunday in downtown Gainesville. As a first-time offender, he was eligible for the deferred prosecution agreement, the State Attorney’s Office said.

The charges will be dropped in six months if Noah meets the terms of his probation.

Noah also must pay $206 in traffic fines for two citations he received Sunday on the University of Florida campus. Noah was ticketed for driving with a suspended license without knowledge and not wearing a seat belt.

Noah led the Gators to consecutive national championships before being selected ninth overall in last June’s draft by the Bulls. He averaged 6.6 points and 5.6 rebounds in 74 games as a rookie.

Difference in ethics, I guess. To me it's wrong to break the law, whether your caught or not, just as it's wrong steal from someone, whether you are caught or not.

If you break the law, you are risking arrest, prosecution and sentencing/fines. I guess some people figure that in some cases the possible consequences under the law are worth the risk. That's why so many peopleeak the speed limit.

The exception I would make is civil disobedience as a form of protest. However, people choosing that as their method of protest are prepared for the possible, even likely punishment.

Interesting that he wasn't considered a malcontent at UF, kinda like College Laettner as opposed to NBA Laettner. Rarity when players of today wish they were back in college.

PARIS (AP) - Yannick Noah is perplexed by "all that fuss" surrounding the arrest of his basketball player son, who was charged with marijuana possession and having an open container of alcohol.

Yannick Noah won the French Open in 1983. He created a sensation a few years before when he told a magazine writer he smoked marijuana.
Joakim Noah was released after signing a notice to appear before a judge — standard procedure for such offenses. He could face up to six months in jail and a $500 fine for the marijuana charge.
"I talk to him every day on the phone," said Yannick Noah, who was at Roland Garros on Tuesday for the dedication of a walkway named after him. "He'll soon come over to France to see me."
Joakim Noah led Florida to consecutive NCAA titles before being picked ninth by the Bulls in the NBA draft last year. The Bulls have said general manager John Paxson told Noah of "his disappointment in his actions," but the team has withheld further comment.
