No DeMya :(

According to Coach Whiz at his after game interview, DeMya will probably not be back this season. Her knee injury is so serious, that he doubts she would be effective and she might worsen it by coming back too early.

DeMya, always a fighter, puts a 2 or 3 week timetable on her recovery. But Coach said, "I have two sons who are doctors and I believe what they told me." He also compared her condition to Bobby Jackson and Brad Miller's last year and pointed out how they weren't as effective when they came back.

Seeing her on those crutches tonight was a heartbreaker...

Unfortunately, yes. There were only about 5 reporters there outside the locker room after the game. By the time he got to talking about DeMya, there were just 3 of us. You'll probably read it in tomorrow's Bee as Debbie Arrington was one of us there. I wish I could remember the exact name of the condition, but it sounded pretty serious.:(

they said late in the NBA TV Broadcast that it was a torn MCL, ...she most likely will not be back this season. that is very, very bad news and i know very disappointing for DeMya.

That said, Nicole & Brunson have to step up in her absense. Last nights loss was huge but not unconcievable considering it was the first night w/o DeMya, but the team has to come together quickly and recover and start winning games and consistantly! last night showed a neon light at a crack in the Sacramento armor. other teams are going to pounce on that crack! Brunson has to fill that void and Nicole has to make them pay for trying.

DeMya is a huge loss, but you guys can overcome this Sacramento has got to show that its weak mentallity of the past is a thing of the past. this is going to make you pull together and be stronger!

I'm not getting the impression from the Bee articles that she's torn her MCL, I think that's what she sprained earlier this month, but its not torn from what I gathered from the Bee article this morning. From how they described what happened in practice the other day, she just aggravated whatever her prior injury was and that the MRI she had done on Thurs was negative.

With that said, I absolutely agree that Brunson and Powell will need to step up, but so too will the backcourt which continues to struggle offensively for some reason. I gathered from coach T's post game talk and from the comments in the paper today, that the staff is starting to get a little bit concerned about why that group is not taking shots.

I also am very concerned that they looked so horrible last night too. There was nothing about their game last night that remotely looked like the Monarchs we'd seen the previous 19 games - not a single thing unless you count that they wore the same uniforms. They've had to play without DeMya in Detroit and still did not look as completely out of sorts as they did last night. They better figure things out and get it together. The other thing that concerned me and they talked about this throughout the radio broadcast - nobody stepped up to take control of that game. I'm looking to the team captains to do that and Yo never really asserted herself (despite her point totals) and Ticha, that probably was not another good night to not look to be aggressive offensively.

I did like their late run, but it was too late to get started and again, there was some poor execution and turnovers mixed in with it. But to finish on a positive note, they did start to show some signs of life on the EKG late in that game and I hope they use that tomorrow night to get back on track.

i spoke with Kris over at the HRR about DeMya and he said that she could make it back in time for the playoffs...its possible. He did not confirm or deny if it was or was not a torn MCL.

I still think Whiz's concern is not so much re:whether she is cleared to play by the time of the playoffs but rather how effective she will be returning during the playoffs. I'm hearing that the 2-4 weeks estimate for her recovery is best case. I also am still not hearing that she tore the MCL, but rather aggravated her prior strain of it.

Yeah, my concern is also her return to the lineup, not as much her absence from it. I think this will be a good opportunity for Rebekkah Brunson to develop. This really, is the only way that she is going to get some quality minutes. Maybe in the long run, if the Monarchs can survive offensively without DeMya, this will turn out to be good for us. Only because it will give valuable minutes to Erin and Rebekkah that they otherwise would not receive. It will help us in the long run if these players benefit from the minutes and become more effective. Then our bench is even MORE dangerous!

My concern is Tina Thompson Syndrome. By the time DeMya is ready to return, she won't be the same DeMya that she was pre-injury. How well will she be able to play given her time off the court? It's not like she can continue to practice. This injury requires REST in order for it to heal. I just hope that Whiz is smarter than Van Chancellor, and I think he is. I would hope that he wouldn't just re-insert DeMya into the starting lineup and play her heavy minutes because that is where she left off. Especially if she is returning just in time for the playoffs. That is not the time for re-adjustments.

I remember when she injured herself before he just started Bekkah.
To me tht is the smartest decision.
Besides Kara hasn't gotten her starting job back either, because he has continuity with Cheslea starting.
So there is nothing to be concerned about. Bekkah is more than capable, and when the time is right, DeMya will start again.

I am just happy it is a 3 week deal rather than out indefinately.

Rest up D and we will see you in 3 weeks...

Well, this kind of belongs in this thread. Since it is a direct result of the DeMya injury...

The Sacramento Monarchs changed the status of Olympia Scott-Richardson and Miao Li Jie to Active and DeMya Walker and Sui Fei Fei to injured.

Well, I certainly expected the OSR and DeMya move. I do wonder about the FeiFei and Miao move.

Too bad about FeiFei. I wish that her and Miao could actually be activated together so that they could feel a little more comfortable on the court. From the very few minutes that FeiFei played she looked pretty good on the offensive end, but just seemed to lack the foot speed needed to guard 2/3's in the WNBA.
