Well, this just isn't pretty...

...sigh...

I didn't really expect the 49ers to win today but I was hoping for a little better showing. Realistically, however, there are still going to be games like this...

Putting Alex Smith in with the score 0-28 would not do anything at this point. Especially since it's still the first half.

Why would you want to have Smith's first real game come against the Eagles, in a game - barring some kind of miracle - there is NO way the 49ers are going to win? What would it serve?

I like the fact our defense hasn't given up the fight. I just want them to get out of Philadelphia on their own two feet and not carried out on stretchers. AND I certainly hope someone points out the folly of taunting Terrell Owens in the media before games.

the only exciting things about this game so far is.... brandon lloyds 1 hand catch and that rumph got a real nice hit on TO early in the game.....

I don't like being down 28-0 with a really expensive top pick sitting on the bench. No matter how Smith would do in this situation, I want him in. Experience is experience...and if you leave the rest of the starters in with him, as someone suggested before, he'll be fine. It's not like Rattay is experiencing tons of pressure...he hasn't been hit all that much. Stick the kid in and see what happens.

NOT putting alex smith in would be the stupidest thing u can do right now. Ur starting qb is playing like a *****, excuse my language, then u gotta take his *** OUT. The guy plays with no passion or intensity. What are those passes he throwing? There behind the recievers and there really flat. That's not gonna cut it in the pros. If I was nolan, rattay would never see the field in the second half, and if smith does pretty desent, then rattay never sees the field again all year. Period.

I do NOT want Smith's confidence destroyed before he even gets it. Experience is experience? Because you learn from losing? If you leave the rest of the starters in with him, he'll be fine? Boy we sure have different ideas, then, of what "fine" really means.

You're going to throw him to the wolves in the second half, losing by 28 points already, and that will build his confidence and make him a better QB?

If Nolan puts him in, I'm going to be very surprised. I would expect to see Puckett or even Dorsett before Smith.

We will agree to disagree, D-Mass.

The insults and demeaning tone can stop right now. You can disagree with what I or anyone else says without resorting to "the stupidest thing u can do" type stuff. Rattay isn't the only one out there on the field.

He's the only one throwing interceptions.

last year he did good considering he only played like 9 games

Maybe the case in the Niners game. But i notice Culpepper isnt having the best time of it vs incinnati, and we know how highly he is regarded. Second half might be different story for Niners. ..(go Barlow !!) :)

Vf, who's puckett and dorsett? I know we have picket and dorsey. Anyways, I think ur getting the assesment all wrong. Nothing is better than experience, good or bad. And its not like rattay is playing bad, he's playing horrible. Get smith in and never put rattay in again.

Sorry. Fingers typed faster than brain. I think I was remembering the names Kirby Puckett and Tony Dorsett for some strange reason. My point was that there are other options for Nolan to consider, and I'm hoping he uses one or both of them before throwing Smith into a NO WIN situation.

You're wrong about "nothing is better than experience, good or bad." Totally and completely and inexorably wrong. BAD experience, especially in a situation like this, could really do a lot of harm to a rookie. I've seen it before...

We'll agree to disagree, however. I'm not going to continue to argue conceptual differences.
