NFL 2022-2023 Season Thread

I wish Brock Purdy was at least 2 inches taller. Those batted balls beginning to give me trepidation with each one on the verge of disaster. And in the playoffs they could be just that. Purdy same height as Drew Brees 6-1 or 6-0, Saints QB aware of tight throwing lanes, sometimes faking throw getting rushers to jump, then his quick release. Brees had very few tipped balls learning tricks of the trade necessary for smallish QB in the NFL.

Tom Brady has looked washed for 95% of this game but he's turned back into Tom Terrific thanks to the Cards committing one of the worst pitches I've ever seen.

Curious to see what the whole Lance vs. Purdy deal is going to look like going forward.

You've got a guy who the Niners traded the future for and a guy the Niners used their least valuable pick for. At some point this is going to become a dilemma unless Purdy becomes an undeniable QB talent.

I really think Lance is toast as a Niner. Dude’s green as ever, hasn’t played meaningful amounts of football in over three years come next season, and I really doubt the Niners are handing a Super Bowl level team to a guy who can’t drive it.
It’s gonna be Brady or Purdy next season. Lance might hold a clipboard unless someone decides they want to repay us some of that lost draft capital.

I dont know about toast, but likely not the starter. Purdy is doing his part to win games. In a perverse way, the 49ers were fortunate to have Garrapolo leave injured because Purdy is better than Garrapolo, and he's better than Lance. My thinking is if Purdy gets the 49ers to the NFC Championship game or better, he earns the starting position for next year. If he has a terrible game in the playoffs and they lose in large part because of him, then maybe do some more evaluation. You see how poor the secondary looks; I'd be surprised if they lose due to Purdy. I'm pleased with Purdy, he can scramble, is creative, and ultra competitive. Lance has a cannon arm and is a pretty fast runner but holds the ball too long and is not particularly imaginative in his running.

It was a bad pick if you factor in all the picks they traded away.

The 49ers once again need to draft a CB with their first available pick.......Womack and Lenoir are not good enough

Give Womack some time. Dude was a ballhawk in preseason. Sometimes it takes corners some seasoning to get it going.

Lenoir isn’t a stand-out, but he’s stepped in admirably as well. Nice to see, because he flashed in preseason last year before completely falling off once the season got going.

Yeah he's done the bare minimum, which is more than I expected from him. Even had a pick 6 taken away. Crazy that we lost Moseley and Verrett and still have the #1 defense. Ward has been a god send. Great signing by Lynch.

Ambry Thomas has been a big disappointment as a 3rd round pick. Good corners just aren't easy to come by.

Lenoir’s doing what I thought Ambry would be. He seemed to be getting it at the end of last year, but has completely disappeared.

Yeah it's going to be real interesting off-season if Purdy gets us to a NFC championship game or a Super Bowl. He's certainly done everything asked of him and more. And you still get the rookie scale contract benefit going with Purdy that we've pretty much set our team up around.

My guess is you could still get a 1st for Lance from a team that misses out on all the QB's in the draft. QB is really dang weak around the NFL, there's going to be a lot of teams that an answer this off-season. Certainly not getting all the capital we gave up back, but I think he'd still have some value because he's still an "unknown".
